  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know how many keyfobs you can have registered to your Genesis? We would like to have 3 or 4 key fobs and wanted to know if that was possible.

If anyone had programming information for the key fobs, i would appreciate it.

Mine has 3 so at least that.

I keep accidentally popping the trunk when I'm in my office. As I move around in my office chair, I guess the button gets pushed in my pocket long enough to open it! Yeah... I know... Take the keys out of the pocket.... But I've done it this way for 50 years.

I have a stainless steel clip attached to my keyfob that allows me to hang it on the top edge of my pocket and it never has been pushed accidentally over the 5 years I have had the 2009 and 2015. It is a lot more comfortable that way since it isn't down amid the other stuff in the pocket.

Great idea! Can you post a pic of the clip you use? I have lots of keys I use at the pharmacy I work at and would like my fob to not be in my pocket full of keys or phone.

I'm 200 miles from home with my truck and Airstream at the moment and my fob is at home. When I get home, I'll post a photo of my fob and clip. Not sure where I got the clip anymore, but many sorts of clip could be made to work. The main thing is getting the fob out of the clutter in the bottom of my pocket. I don't even notice it is there.

I was looking over the shoulder of the technician programming a new keyfob on my 2015 Genesis. The onboard software has only two fields for key codes. It can only affiliate with two keys at a time!

I had one spare made and was told that two spares were possible.

Cost at dealer was $440 total for fob, metal key blank, and cutting & programming the metal key and fob, respectively.

If you're planning to carry a spare fob on or about your car, you should wrap it in foil & put it in a metal container.

As an alternative you can get one of the silicon key fob covers and that recesses the push buttons on the key fob some and will help prevent the accidental pushing of them. I have one on both ours and got high visibility key fob covers, PINK and ORANGE which really helps finding them especially when say you're at the dealership and they have all the keys hanging on a board and are looking for yours.

I only paid around $10 per cover for the ones I have and even had one on my 2013 Sonata key fob so it's one of the first things I get.

Hi All,

Sorry to necropost but I wanted to verify somethign regarding the keys. I'm looking at used 2015 ultimate v6 and they only have one key. It looks like there is no "key" to the key (just the fob with buttons) so I wanted to know the following:

- is there a need for a key? (glove compartment, etc)
- if they only have the fob, then is there a method by which to create the key for the glove compartment if necessary? or do i have to have all the locks switched out?

Thanks

The physical key fits inside the fob. If you are missing the physical key and the 2nd fob entirely - then I would request the dealer to completely rekey the car - as someone else has all the important parts. Sounds like this might be a repo, actually.

Thank you for your prompt response. I am asking them to let me know about the key they have as maybe it had the blade and I didn't figure out how to open it (it was late at night.. not the best time to be shopping for a used luxury car).

EDIT: they sent me a photo and it does have the fob and blade, so that's good. thank you again

Found the actual answer to this when perusing the manual on page 3-6:

A maximum of three Smart Keys including Card Type Smart Keys can be registered to a single vehicle.

Also, as a separate key-related feature. I discovered you can make it so that all the doors unlock when you hit the button just once (instead of twice on the driver's side door. From page 3-5:

You can change the system to the Central Door Unlock mode (unlock all the doors when you press the unlock button one time). To change between Two Stage Unlock mode and Central Door Unlock mode, perform the following: Press the lock button and unlock button on the smart key at the same time for 5 seconds or more. The hazard warning lights will blink four times.

You can also change the unlock mode in the settings between the gauges.
