Purchased a silver on black 2013 Genesis about a week ago. I'm new to posting on the forums but I have been creeping on them for quite some time now, and this forum was a Godsend when looking for odd information so I figured I'd add my findings for others looking to get a Genesis.
A little background; I'm 26, this is my first vehicle purchase. My previous ride was a bone stock Ford Windstar that I put 160k miles on, it was about as exhilarating to drive as a wet fart in church.
I can't bad mouth it to much though, it survived me learning to drive as well as all the hooning that a high school/college car enthusiast will do. And it did all this with minimal major repairs.
Anyway, When I started looking for a new vehicle I knew I wanted something that was unique, fast, quite, CPO, reliable, inexpensive to fix, didn't have a 4 cylinder, and had a good amount of gadgets. I didn't wan't an Accord/Camry/one of those cars everybody seems to have, It's just not my style. I also ruled out anything from Europe because of the inherent reliability issues found in over engineered products. I also didn't want a car brand that people would scoff at. I didn't want to be the 26 year old that bought a BMW or Audi...but I wanted the ride and solid feel of those brands, so the Genesis was perfect.
At the end of the day, after hundreds of hours in research, I went with the Genesis because it touched on all the things that I wanted. After deciding on the Genesis I then had to decide which form of Genesis I wanted.
I found I could get;
A 2011 or older V6 Genesis with all the gizmo packages
A 2011 or older V8 with the Premium package only (or base obviously)
A 2012 or newer Base model.
I went with the 2012+ Base level trim because I thought the large powertrain upgrade as well as the exterior aesthetic upgrades made the car look/perform great. I also didn't wan't to have to deal with the Lexicon electronic gremlins.
I'm happy with my choice so far and love how quiet and fast it is. I'm a little weary of how the rear wheel drive will do in Wisconsin winters but I figure if all the old guys could do it back before front wheel drive in those giant lumber wagons everybody drove, I can do it in a modern car with electronic nannies to keep me in line.
My favorite thing about the car so far is telling people I'm in the silver Hyundai and then watching them roam around looking for what they think a Hyundai looks like...especially with the wings on back instead of the sideways H.
I'll probably be doing a lot of new thread making and bringing back others from the dead, so prepare yourselves.
