In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Purchased a silver on black 2013 Genesis about a week ago. I'm new to posting on the forums but I have been creeping on them for quite some time now, and this forum was a Godsend when looking for odd information so I figured I'd add my findings for others looking to get a Genesis.

A little background; I'm 26, this is my first vehicle purchase. My previous ride was a bone stock Ford Windstar that I put 160k miles on, it was about as exhilarating to drive as a wet fart in church.
I can't bad mouth it to much though, it survived me learning to drive as well as all the hooning that a high school/college car enthusiast will do. And it did all this with minimal major repairs.

Anyway, When I started looking for a new vehicle I knew I wanted something that was unique, fast, quite, CPO, reliable, inexpensive to fix, didn't have a 4 cylinder, and had a good amount of gadgets. I didn't wan't an Accord/Camry/one of those cars everybody seems to have, It's just not my style. I also ruled out anything from Europe because of the inherent reliability issues found in over engineered products. I also didn't want a car brand that people would scoff at. I didn't want to be the 26 year old that bought a BMW or Audi...but I wanted the ride and solid feel of those brands, so the Genesis was perfect.

At the end of the day, after hundreds of hours in research, I went with the Genesis because it touched on all the things that I wanted. After deciding on the Genesis I then had to decide which form of Genesis I wanted.
I found I could get;
A 2011 or older V6 Genesis with all the gizmo packages
A 2011 or older V8 with the Premium package only (or base obviously)
A 2012 or newer Base model.

I went with the 2012+ Base level trim because I thought the large powertrain upgrade as well as the exterior aesthetic upgrades made the car look/perform great. I also didn't wan't to have to deal with the Lexicon electronic gremlins.

I'm happy with my choice so far and love how quiet and fast it is. I'm a little weary of how the rear wheel drive will do in Wisconsin winters but I figure if all the old guys could do it back before front wheel drive in those giant lumber wagons everybody drove, I can do it in a modern car with electronic nannies to keep me in line.

My favorite thing about the car so far is telling people I'm in the silver Hyundai and then watching them roam around looking for what they think a Hyundai looks like...especially with the wings on back instead of the sideways H.

I'll probably be doing a lot of new thread making and bringing back others from the dead, so prepare yourselves.

:welcome: and enjoy your new ride!

Silver/black - my favorite combo. Not as fast as Titanium, but still pretty fast :D

Congratulations on the purchase. You're logic makes perfect sense and you made a wise choice. I had a 2012 premium/tech and now have a '15 Ultimate. Personally I had to have the gadgets but the lesser equipped models are a better choice when you factor in the cost and trade in at a later date.

Welcome to the club. Good choice on the 12-13 base. The GDI engine is quite spirited with the base model checking in at about 3800 lbs. It really gets up and flies with the 8 speed's short gearing down low.

Let me know if you go the route of adding an exhaust and/or intake. I think I'm one of the few, if not the only one, that's added those mods to the GDI V6 on the sedan.

Congrats and :welcome:! On a side note, you're 26 and you know who Buford T. Justice is?!!? That's kind of awesome!! It likely means that you too suffered through some of the same bad (but somehow classic) movies that my generation did, "classics" such as:

Smokey And The Bandit X
The Cannonball Run X
Any Clint Eastwood Movies from the 70s-80s where his name isn't Harry, such as "Any Which Way You Can", etc.
Stripes (okay, so this one is a couple notches above the others)

Back to topic, judging by what some of the members from Minnesota have to say, the Genesis is notoriously bad in snow without snow tires, so please be careful.

Cool, welcome. I also just bought a CPO Genesis, went with the 2012 with premium package. Live in Milwaukee area. This is our second Genesis, our first was a 2009 bought new in 2008.
Good tires for winter are a must-have. Either a dedicated set of snows, or excellent all seasons that perform well in snow. Back in the old days, when all cars were rear wheel, snow tires were the norm for Wisconsin winters.

Welcome BTJ! You'll love the car. Got mine loaded because I knew the HPP was available and figured I'd keep her quite a while so the gadgets would be fun to play with.

I agree the '12+ body is a bit more refined and the -'11 are starting to look a little long in the tooth. I have no doubt ours will too with time, but at half the price of a '15, I'm feeling ok.

Absolutely love the car....

Welcome to the Genesis world. I just traded my 2010 for a 2015. My 2010 (85000km) was still as rock solid and "perfect" as it was when new.

You have chosen wisely:welcome:

Did you test drive all 3 of these? Thoughts? Always wondered how the 4.6 with the 6sp stacked up against the 12-14 V6.

Congrats on your purchase! I recently purchased a 2013 base model also. Black with tan interior. Added rear wing and front tag with wing. Currently waiting on the wing wheel inserts to arrive and then I will be set!

Thanks everybody! :grouphug:

It's a hell of a lot faster than my minivan was that's for sure! I love the feeling when it really gets going, it just sort of wafts down the road. I've seen that cold air intake you crafted, pretty quality I'd say! I've been looking at exhaust too but I'm a bit nervous of this "drone" I hear about. What is it, what causes it, and how do you minimize it without having stock exhaust? I've never really experienced it before, or if I have I didn't even notice it.

I love all those movies! Though they were quite a bit before my time, I remember watching them quite a bit as a kid...and still do now haha. The one liners from Jackie Gleason in Smokey and the Bandit are incredible. Not to mention that Trans-Am is to die for. They made a real obscure Cannonball Run type movie that I can't remember the name of, but I do remember them skipping a Lamborghini Countach across a pond during the beginning of the movie.

I will definitely be getting snow tires, I'm just waiting to find a cheep set of alloys to put them on. Kinda sucks we can't downsize rims to 16" and use tires with bigger side walls, if we could use 16s we could just get steelies!

Nice! I commute to Milwaukee every day for work, about 50 miles one way.On three separate occasions when looking at cars I spoke with people that were at the dealer to get their second Genesis, that was pretty impressive to me, I knew it had to be a good car at that point.

I did! the 4.6 is a different animal in terms of driving dynamics and feel from the drivers seat. The extra torque of the V8 makes the car waft forward effortlessly, you have to press the go peddle down farther than you would with the V6 in order to get it to change gears. The V8 likes to stay in the same gear and use its torque to accelerate instead of dropping a gear or two like the V6 will. I'd have to go back and really pay attention to each to give you a good example though.

I hope I did this multi-quote reply correct...This could be a big jumbled mess when I submit reply.
