Fog Light Harness in the 3.8L?

Cool. How do you control the fog lights? Did you change the stalk or some other way?

They turn on with DRL , and also with main lights. I keep my switch to Auto mode , I can't turn them off separately. Only way to turn them off is turn off DRL. Here are some pics of wiring. I just finished connecting my fog lights today I made my harness in the morning. I used a double relay setup and wired when the headlights come on the fog lights are on. And when the high beams are on the fog lights are off used a 6 amp circuit breaker and an illuminated toggle switch connected to one of the unused terminals in the fuse box located in the engine compartment. there are for unused terminals that are powered. in New York in order to pass inspection your fog lights have to to off with the high beams on that's why I wired the harness the way I did . Did not take too much work to complete.

Congratulations!!! :) Yes, the car looks much better with the fog lights. Where did you run the wire from the lights to the fuse box?
As you can see in my pics, the wire is clearly visible, and I dint really like it how the wiring was done. Because the wire is pressed under the plastic cover, I had to put some 3M small little plastic cube pieces under the plastic to avoid possibility that it could cut in the wire over time. If possible can you send some pics where did you run the wire?
I think I will try to find some other way to run it to the fuse box.
Thanks.

The only thing holding me back from purchasing a new 3.8 AWD (Ultimate) Genesis is this silly driving light issue. I just do NOT understand why other models like the Sonata have them...the Canadian Genesis gets them but the US Ultimate package does not??? I don't think anybody buying a Genesis with the Ultimate package really cares about the incremental cost to include the driving lights.

That said...from what I could tell in reading the forum on this topic is that no one as of yet has successfully installed the driving lights using the factory stalk to control them...is that correct? I'll just buy and add them - but I want it to match the factory setup.

I got the 3.8 Ultimate but agree ENTIRELY. Absolutely ludicrous that they chose to leave it off.

...and I suspect if we polled all of the ultimate buyers we would overwhelmingly find that same sentiment.

Hyundai just needs to hire me as the Genesis brand manager :)

I'm probably just dreaming, but I wonder if there's any chance of Hyundai coming up with a retrofit kit to offer us 3.8 owners to install on our cars? By now, if they're paying any attention at all, they must know it was a mistake to omit the lights.

If I had to guess I would say no because of the need to swap the stalks. That said if I did know they were coming with such a kit I would buy right now. As it is I am thinking of waiting either for an early 2015 refresh that addresses that or waiting for the 2016 - which I really do not want to do. You guys are making me jealous with your great looking cars and I want to join.

NICE photos of your car by the way! That's a beauty.

Thanx! I'd buy a kit if they offered one at a price that I couldn't resist. :)

You meant that no one has installed fog light control stalk?
If so that's correct, first it will add a lot the labor cost, also I spoke with dealership tech manager who programmed the FOB card for me about this.
I wanted to install 5.0 left control stalk, he told me that the wiring is completely different and it won't fit as is, need to rewire the all lighting system, also I asked if I can fit the Canadian model control stalk, he told me the same thing. I don't know if it's true regarding the Canadian models , but he told that the fittings are located differently and also the how the stalk attached to the steering wheel. It's too much labor and as soon you start to play with the wires a lot of things can go wrong, because the ECU is designed for this specific wiring and if some other type of wiring comes it can fail.
Don't know how much true is there, I am not electrician.
Also I wanted to change the DRL to the LED which is the wrap around and leave the yellow for turn signal only, he didn't have much time to look closely, but told me that if it's possible to do just switching the wires then it's OK, but if the wires needs to be cut, or splice , didn't recommend to do this, as it something happens, can void my warranty.
I didn't have a time, but I will bring the car to electrician to see if it can be done just to switch the wires.
I asked if would be possible that the fog light wiring is already installed, as I saw fuse for fog lights, he told me it's not wired , the fuse could be there but it doesn't mean that the wires are.
I just want to confirm how much and if there is difference from Canadian models for the left control stalk, and go from there.
The DRL change would be easy if just need to switch the wires.
But to run original wiring could be very costly.

You posted earlier that you ordered 5.0 control stalk, didn't you use it? Or it didn't fit? Or you used the Canadian 3.8 switch?
Can you let us know about that one.
What about the lighted door sill plates from 5.0? You posted that the wiring is there, didn't have a chance to install them? I think I will do that as well.
Also you said that the fog wiring is there, I was told by dealer that is not, can you confirm that it was the wiring you found , it's for the fog lights?
I subscribed the Hyundai tech website for a week, I was able to print the fog light wiring, if someone who knows electricity and wirings going to install, or just take a look, I can send those wiring schemes.

Yep - that was exactly what I was asking...of those that have installed the driving/fog lights is anybody controlling them with the factory stalk from either the Canadian V6 or the US V8 cars. If the wiring is not already there that presents a likely insurmountable challenge to stalk replacement (at least in terms of *somewhat* reasonable cost.)

Thanks for the detailed info!

Maybe I should just buy the 5.0...put snows on it and be done with it. Its been years since I drove a RWD car here in Wisconsin though so not sure that makes sense either :)

It's hard to find out where is truth and where not, according to that dealer tech manager, the wiring not there, when the oil was changed I tried to look for it, couldn't see, some members earlier claimed that they found it, but after that disappear:) I found the 5.0 left stalk from MOBIS for sale, the tech said it won't fit. But I got the fog lights and they are on, what else to worry about :)
Yeah, in Wisconsin the H-Track would be very helpful drive:)

I don't know if you are referring to me but i haven't disappeared. I tend to browse the threads so I'm sure i miss some content. If you look at page 1 of this thread, i have pictures. I'd be curious what the service tech thought of those. I haven't tried following the wiring from there to see where it goes, but the connectors are definitely there.
