In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey guys

I recently traded in my Genesis because I got transferred at work to a branch that takes me at least an hour in Seattle stop-and-go traffic. I just want to say you guys are amazing and I'm very sad to leave you guys. :(

I got a Toyota Avalon Hybrid and after driving it for a little over 3 months, I miss my Genesis so much. I was going to get a mid-size hybrid like Prius, Sonata hybrid or Fusion hybrid but the trunk was way too small for my diving equipment. The only hybrid car big enough was the Avalon so I didn't have much choice. I did get a company discount and 0% financing and the dealership gave me $19500 trade in value for my Genesis so I took it.

I know no cars are perfect and I hear many of you complaining about the little things on this forum, but wait until you drive something else. Try to find another car (similar class) with the same features for the same amount of money you paid.

I got the top of the line Avalon. Hybrid limited with technology package. My complaints so far:
-Rattles, sqeaks, and creaks. This is driving me absolutely nuts. Already took it to the dealership twice and they can't "reproduce the noise". Go to toyotanation Avalon forum, and the longest thread there is from the owners complaining about this issue.
-Quality of leather... Nothing compared to the ones in Genesis.
-Lack of panaromic sunroof (on a $40k+ car???)
-Tiny navigation screen and the entire UI lags to a point where I have wait 2-3 seconds after pressing a button. It also doesn't let me type in the address or change settings while driving.
-Seats are extremely uncomfortable. Not enough padding. Also a huge thread on this on the Avalon forums.
-No parking sensors. (Not even rear sensors)
-No lane departure warning. (Not even available in their top of the line model while Camry has it)
-JBL sound quality is horrible. This is supposedly an upgraded sound system in the limited model and even then it sounds worse than Infiniti sound system in Kia Optima or Harman Kardon in Subaru Legacy. Unbelievable.
-No electronic parking brake.
-Interior buttons look extremely cheap.
-Keyfob looks like it was made in the 80's.
-Harsh ride. Very similar to my Genesis. Also a huge thread on this. 2013-2014 Avalons wanted to be a little "sporty".

There are more but I don't want to sound like I'm nitpicking. I am extremely happy with Avalon's fuel economy though. I was definitely getting the advertised 40/39 MPG during summer. I was very surprised. I didn't think a large car like mine would get that kind of mileage. It did drop a bit down to 36 MPG or so but that's because it's winter now and all hybrids take a hit during cold weather. There are definitely some things I love about the car but it just isn't Genesis... :(

I will try to take some pictures of the car (interiors and the keyfob too) so you guys can see what I'm talking about.

Again, I will miss you guys :*(

Good luck with the Avalon. I hear it is a great car. Glad to hear "one of us" objectively compare an Avalon to a G. Looking forward to your pics.

You didn't say what Genesis you had. I can tell you that the 2015 is even better. (I just swapped my 2011 for a new one.) perhaps some day you will have the opportunity to come back home.

I take it you swapped cars because of the milage?

I find it interesting when people decide to forego luxury over gas mileage. I wouldnt care if gas is $8.00 a gallon (which it may be soon). Im not gonna let go of all the trappings of feeling like im riding in style. I know to each his own, but I also live in Seattle and it takes hours just to get across town on a busy day. Im certainly not gonna pass up on luxury when I have to sit in traffic.

Doing a little calculating, the Genesis would cost you an additional $22.50 per week, or $90 a month for gas. For some people, an extra $22.50 per week is worth paying, to drive a Genesis.....For others, not so much.
For me, I'm not sure that I would have bought the Genesis, if I wasn't retiring in a week and a half, and cutting my miles driven by 75%.

If ballpark $90/mo fuel cost is enough to convince someone to forgo a luxury car then they probably shouldn't be looking at a luxury car in the first place.

I concur. There is always the half-the-price twice-the-gas-mileage camry :)

That seems kinda high for comparing two likely candidates - could you show us the numbers and the cars? Average annual driving, gas prices, gallons used in each car compared? I don't doubt you, but it seems like too much disparity for comparing two cars in the same "shopping cart". Thanx.

I figured 40 mpg vs 20 mpg with 30 miles commute each way at $3.00 a gallon.
.

That doesn't seem like any two cars I'd be considering at the same time.

Toyota Avalon Hybrid vs Hyundai Genesis V6 sedan.
.
$40,000 vs $45,000.

This also reminds me of a story of a lady I used to work with. She was a single mom with two preteen kids. They would turn the thermostat down in the winter so the heat would not come on so much. They would be freezing in that house. She said she had to conserve because of her limited budget. But on the other hand she went to the hairdresser every week and had a mani/pedi every week. I wonder why people choose to put themselves in relative discomfort just to save a few dollars. There were many other ways to save without being uncomfortable. I understood, but somewhat disagreed with her flawed logic.

Whoa... Sorry it took so long for me to reply.

I'm surprised by all the negative remarks here.

I had a 2011 Genesis 3.8 with Technology package. It says it in my signature.

What luxury did I give up by going from Genesis to Avalon? If anything, fully loaded Avalon costs more (MSRP $44,570) than my fully loaded Genesis (MSRP $43,350). I paid nowhere near those amounts but it's not like I went from a luxury car to an Accent. I don't get all the comments about how I gave up so much luxury just to save gas. I guess trying to save some gas when I'm commuting more than 3 hours a day is crazy. It's not 3 hours of highway miles. It's stop and go traffic which is worse than normal city miles.

Luxury isn't determined by how much you spent, but by how much you got.
