In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I don't want a Hyundai Genesis Sedan - but I might buy one if...

Re: sub-30K Genesis

That would've happened with the 3.3L, the same engine used in the base Azera and the US-market Sonata V6. But it was NOT going to be competitive in the US market, and while at it, would've brought down the rest of the Genesis range as well.

For that matter, the 3.8L isn't a "luxury car engine" either, as it's the same one from the Kia Sedona and burns regular fuel. But it surely performs a lot like one, and no complaints from me.

I'd like the following options available:
- Sport package
- AWD option (even though I don't want it myself)
- Telematics (I hate telematics, but some like it, and the KDM Genesis does get the Mozen telematics system)
- Korean delivery option (assuming legal barriers aren't too high) similar to European delivery programs of German and Swedish automakers

I, unfortunately, will probably never have a new Genesis. I'm hoping to talk my wife into having our fourth child, and that means we replace my day driver with a six passenger vehicle. The household budget won't support two minivans (or whatever), four kids, and also a Genesis.

If we were going to stay with three kids, I would ask for these three options:
1. Cloth interior, since as a family car it's going to get stained and demolished anyway.
2. The 3.3 liter V6, since it's still plenty fast and the extra fuel economy would be nice.
3. Either an available limited slip differential or available all wheel drive with the V6, to help with driving in the snow and ice.

Now, I suspect I'm a very, very tiny minority here and that Hyundai would gain basically zero sales from the first two changes. A limited slip available for the V6 might help a little, and I suspect available all wheel drive would help a lot.

The engines displace the same amount, but the Sedona gets 263 horsepower and a five speed automatic while the Genesis gets 290 and a six speed automatic. I can't speak for anyone else, but that's enough of a difference for me.

I am interested, however the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. I was turned off at Toyota by being "forced" into some things to get what the wife wanted on it.

1) To get the Tech package I need the "Plus" package? I dont want 18's and I dont like how they look. I think the 17's look better. So I need to spend 1K in order to move to the next package over something as trivial as rims which is a "personal" opinion type option?

2) To get the HID's, I have to get everything. I dont want Navi. Its a nice "thing" to have but I dont need it. I have HID on my current car and really like being able to see at night. To get that, I need 7K in package options.

3) Its a shame the V8 requires premium. Thats a turn off and will limit me to the V6. The Maxima I have requires premium and given that gas prices WILL go back up, every little bit to save at the pump will help.

I would look at the Azera. There will be a mild refresh in 2011 but 2009 is not bad.

The V8 does NOT require premium. It generates 368 HP on Regular and 375 on Premium. This was a major point for me as I often travel in northern Iowa where they have never heard of 91 or higher octane.

I do run 91 or higher if at all possible.

I am assuming that based on "knocking" that the 368 is the ignition retarding via the ECU or does it run a different map entirely.

Do you notice much mileage difference between running premium and "regular". Around here we have 93, 89 and 87.

Great...you HAD to go and tell me regular is an option... :D

The packaging works both ways. I needed a car without a sunroof for the extra headroom, so I had to get the base model Genesis, even though I am pissed that I could not get the Lexicon stereo (either one) or to a lessor degree the leather dash (the plastic wood is too reflective IMO) and telescoping steering wheel.

In fact, it is almost impossible to get a decently equipped car these days without a sunroof. Camry XLE, Accord EX, all Lexus, all Acura, etc have sunroofs. If the base model Genesis had a sunroof, I would probably have bought the Accord EX-L V6 (which has the most headroom of any car with sunroof that I drove).

Since you asked- (and presumably Hyundai is listening?):

Rebates, incentives, cash back!

To add a little excitement, provide an R-spec model Genesis Sedan:
1. Lose ~200lbs excess weight by deleting unecessary options (leather, power seats, rear sunshade, etc) then add:
2. Four-piston Brembo brakes
3. Track-oriented suspension w/stiffer shocks, springs and thicker antiroll bars
4. Torsen-type limited-slip differential
5. Forged wheels
6. Tuned 2.0T turbo or tuned V-6 (to keep weight down)

Or, a more sedate approach would be to offer the following for the existing models:
1. Rebates, incentives, cash back
2. 6spd manual option for all models
3. LSD option for all models
4. Diesel option

Peace.

Genesis coupe has almost everything you want except it only has 2 doors. Doesn't have actual rebates, but is much cheaper than the Sedan.

BTW, Hyundai will be moving in the direction of Hybrid vehicles relatively soon, and with some turbo 4-cylinders more prevalent in the lineup. This is what Hyundai calls their "Blue Drive" initiative and will also include direct injection for better fuel economy. Some of this will be featured in Hyundai advertising during the Academy Awards (they purchased 8 spots).

Precisely, Mark 888, make the R-spec options from the coupe available on the sedan. This should spice things up a bit!

A 2-door coupe would NOT work for my growing family. I'd like a roomy & sporty 6spd manual RWD sedan/wagon to compliment our very boring FWD minivan.

Additionally, the 2.0T should get better mileage than the existing V6 and V8. Heck a Blue-Drive version would save us even more fuel. What's not to like?

Peace.

If you want a 4-door Coupe, I would suggest you take a 2-door coupe to a chop-shop and have them lengthen it and add 2 more doors.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Carpeted subwoofer cover standard in all models. Also drop the plastic FAKE wood. If it has wood grain in a World class luxury car, it should be genuine wood.

You're not serious, are you? That would be ridiculously expensive, and unless the shop was supremely competent it would probably totally compromise side impact crash protection.

I bet it would be significantly cheaper to pay a shop to take the Genesis sedan, strip out what you don't want, and toss in a six speed manual to replace the ZF transmission.

Mark888-

I never said I wanted a 4-door coupe.

Here's the orginal thread that solicited forum-members' responses:
"Please use this discussion to let Hyundai know what it would take to get YOU into a Genesis - even though you're not exactly fond of Hyundai or the Genesis as it is right now... In other words.. What would you do to make it perfect for you?"

My response was in keeping with the spirit of the original thread. As requested, I submitted my inputs. If you don't agree- there's no need to hate. This is for Hyundai's ears, not yours.

Personally, I prefer involving sporty sedans (where I get to do the shifting) over luxury barges.

BMW has their sporty M division. Mercedes has AMG. Why not encourage Hyundai to expand their R-Spec line-up to include the Genesis sedan?

More choices means we all win!
Peace.

What makes you say "hate" with regard to my response? Actually, I think my response was more reasonable than yours given all the things you wanted.

The only difference between a sedan and coupe is the number of doors, and that is not that difficult to change as compared to most of the other things you asked for, and somehow I doubt that number of doors really matters that much anyway. The Genesis Coupe is not a small car, and it seems to have almost everything you asked for.

"If you want a 4-door Coupe, I would suggest you take a 2-door coupe to a chop-shop and have them lengthen it and add 2 more doors."

And this is your idea of a "reasonable" proposal? You're either joking or trolling- or both.

Peace.

Like I said, it is more reasonable than some of the proposals you suggested (many of which are mutually exclusive). Maybe lengthening the car was a "bit much" but adding 2 more doors (do you really need that?) is not that far out of line based on your wish list.

The Genesis Sedan is not a sports car. The Genesis Coupe is.
