If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hello! Just some background information:

I bought this car two weeks ago. During my test drive, I noticed multiple rough shifts from 2nd to 3rd. I bought it anyways, thinking maybe I was being too sensitive. Fast forward a few days, there was a loud CLUNK sound as I accelerated. I brought it into the dealership last week and they confirmed the CLUNK sound and the rough 2nd to 3rd gear shift. They told me they will replace the transmission under warranty (but I will have to pay for the transmission oil) and that they will call me when my transmission comes in. Unfortunately, I had to go to the dealership again this morning to have my driver's window looked at (I can hear wind noise coming into the cabin when I drive. Not sure how I never noticed this before). Right when I was about to pick up the car after work, they gave me a call and said my transmission had arrived. They told me to hold onto the loaner car and they will call me when the transmission swap is done.

My car always had a high pitch sound (maybe a whining or grinding sound) when driving and coasting to a stop so maybe that was a sign the transmission was going bad? Hopefully, the transmission replacement will solve that noise issue for me.

I will keep everybody posted on the outcome! I miss driving my Genesis :( However, they did give me a 2015 Hyundai Elantra to drive around! I was hoping for a 2015 Genesis or a 2015 Sonata, but oh well!

Been there with the tranny. The new one has been flawless. Had a similar noise, turned out to be an idler bearing for the belt drive. Also replaced under warrenty. You might have them check it while it's in the shop.

Thank you for the heads up, Amartz! :D I'll definitely ask them about that.

EDIT: I phoned my service department and asked them to look at the Idler Bearing after they swap the transmission. Thanks, Amartz!

Why should you have to pay for the trans oil????

Have them put their reasons down on paper, for future use.

I asked them that question too. I told them "I JUST bought this car 10 days ago" and they said "the warranty doesn't cover the transmission oil".

I called up Hyundai Canada and they said "our powertrain warranty only covers the engine replacement and labor, not the engine oil. It will likely be the same for the transmission".

It seems like maybe this is up to the dealership to decide?

How much is the tranny fluid for the 8 speed? I know it's synthetic fluid for the ZF and expensive.

They said it uses 6 bottles of transmission fluid and if my memory serves me well, I THINK i saw $120.95 CAD before tax

With the amount of labor the dealership is getting i'm surprised they're not covering the fluid if corporate doesn't want to cover it.

Yes :( I'll be getting the Genesis back on Monday, hopefully...

Has anyone had their engine replaced under warranty????...Were they charged for motor oil?????
.

I can't speak from experience, but Hyundai Canada said they won't cover engine oil. I guess it is at the discretion of the dealership!

**UPDATE**

Just got the car back! Shifts are smooth :) Although my problem with the driver's door window leaking air into the cabin is still present....

**UPDATE**

Looks like I spoke too soon. Just went on a ride with my mom and the car downshifted violently and shook violently. It seems like shifts 4 to 5 (and 5 back to 4) are not smooth. Back to the dealership I go! I'm gonna become best friends with the service advisors :)

Which dealership did u go to?

Check your PM :)

The car refused to shift into 2nd gear yesterday. I accelerated slowly and it stayed in it's initial gear until about 2500 RPM, then slammed into the next gear. Very loud CLUNK and very jerky as well. Scary!!

I got my engine and transmission replaced. Didn't have to pay for oil. New engine and trans have been flawless

Just left the Hyundai dealer in Kansas City with my 2014 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec. My factory warranty (5yr/60k miles) will expire in 15 days. It has 55k on it now and has never been abused. I've brought it in a few times for a shudder when taking off from a deadbolt stop and a shudder on later shifts. They are calling in for warranty coverage to replace my transmission.

Also can be center carrier bearing on driveshaft but that was mostly on 2010 and 2011 models.

Hopefully you are still on this forum as this post was in 2014. I have had similar issue, when I bought my 2013 Certified Used RSPEC Sedan. Tranny would stall out, shift clunky. Had the transmission replaced (brand new under warranty). Now with about 5-10k miles on it, its shifting pretty hard at slow speeds from 1st gear to 2nd gear (clunky). Anyone know of any fixes?

Is it, the transmission, not still under warranty?
