I am looking for a reasonable set of tires for my Genesis R-Spec.
Currently I have about 21,000 miles on it and the factory Continentals are showing uneven wear and low tread. I do not drive like a maniac, but I am aware that part of the issue may be that the car has not been aligned yet. So a balance and alignment is in the cards as well as tires.

More or less I am looking for something reasonably priced, good wear, good wet and dry traction...

I have found some good ones with good prices, but no reviews.
So far what is on my radar is Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S, Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position, Goodyear Eagle RS-A2 and Firestone FireHawk Wide Oval Indy 500.

This is my first time replacing tires on my Genesis and want to make sure I am making a good choice. I have also read that the stock tire size is not the only one it will take. I was informed that it will take 245,45,19. Are there any pitfalls going with a different tire size? What would your recommendation be fore where to buy them and where to have them installed/alignment done if not the same place?
Overall looking to get the most bang for the buck and tire.

Thank you in advance as any direction would be appreciated.

Hi Solo,
The Bridgestone S04 Pole Position are very good tires, and the R Spec with the Summer Tire option gets these exact tires in the 245 width.

My last tire purchase was a Continental DW 245 45 19 and I really like them. They were much better then the OEM Conti's the R Specs get and better then the Sumitomo HTR ZIII I had prior the either. The DW's provide tons of grip, a great ride quality, and very minimum tire noise. They will not have as much steering response as say the Pilot Super Sports, or the S04 Pole Positions, but the Genesis isn't a track car and doesn't like to be tossed around due to what is is (heavy). I've pounded on my tires for about 21,000 miles now and they are about 50% worn. That's impressive since I drive like a nutcase.

Depending on price my next set will be the Michelin Pilot Super Sports, but if they are not on sale, I'd probably get the DW's again. When my wifes Optima needs to rubber, I'll be replacing her Conti DWS with the DW since we bought winter wheels and tires, so no need for an all season tire.

Scott ....I was going to get PSS in spring, but I don't think they came in size 245/45/19 ...I see 245/40/19
DW's are a good choice, though.

Yup, you're right. I was thinking of member "Gunkk" who has the SS tires, but now I remember that he's running the 18 inch wheels.

I did just check on the Pilot SS for my wifes car a 225 45 18 and Discount Tire showed $958.71 out the door verses $723.04 out the door for the DW's.:D

Pardon my ignorance, what are DW's?

Sorry, they are the Continental DW (D stands for Dry and W for wet) which would be a direct competitor to the Bridgestone S04 Pole position tires that you mentioned in your original thread.

Here is a list of tires from the same performance genre:

The Continental DW and Bridgestone S04 are in the top 2 for highest ratings. The two tires usually trade places from 1st place to 2nd place and vice versa every few weeks depending on how many people are entering a tire rating on TireRack.

I just put Michelin Pilot A/S3's on mine and so far like them better than the DW's but I have not ran them in the summer yet.

These tires are not a reasonable comparison since the DW is a summer tire and A/S3 an all season.

If 245/45/19's are an option check out Pirelli P7 Cinturatos. They've been on my car since early December, in snow, and now in Florida. I am not disappointed. Great tire!

+1 on the P7's^

Otherwise the Continental DWS (All Season) is a good choice, but isn't even close to the DW (summer tire) on a performance level of quiet, ride, and sticky.

If the OP isn't looking at getting a summer tire, than the P7 would be my top choice for a grand touring tire.

I live in NC so we see very little snow if any ever so thats not on the list. I would like good regular and wet traction. I am not a sporty driver and do appreciate the silence in a good ride. Any thoughts on the Yokohama YK580?

I thought that folks also liked the overall (non track day tire) performance of the Bridgestone Serenity Plus... Still accurate?

that seems about right, what kind of tire is the Yokohama?

Pilot super sports kick ass. Best summer tire, period. If you can get them in your size...

I got 25 k spirited miles with them on my '09 before I sold it with about 4-5/32nds remaining.

(edit: my rims were all stock 18's)

There is not a big choice out there. I just bought a new set and had to go back to the continental tires.. Mine lasted to about 37,000.
Good luck

I see many comments about folks shopping for 245 45 19 and stating that this is what comes stock from dealer on R-spec; however, i have a 2012 model and new off the showroom floor, it came with 235 45 19

should i switch to 245? and why?

thanks,

thanks,

The R Spec model had a "summer tire package" available which was $1,200 for 2012 year. The summer tire was a little wider (245 width)Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position and was very sticky compared to the Conti that the R Spec came with in.

I run a 245 width on my 4.6 with R Spec wheels because a 235 width is not enough rubber for a car this powerful, and even the 245 isn't wide enough, but it's better than the 235.

Scottdk, you say these aren't a reasonable comparison, but those are the tires i am weighing against each other (looked at the Turanza by Bridgestone, but ... not really drawing me in). I drive "spirited" as folks say, but I am not ever at the track and willing to give up some performance for a quieter and a bit softer ride. Which is typically quieter? Summer or A/S ?

DW or DWS?

The tests I have read seem to indicate the DW is one of the quietest around; yet some of the reviews make them sound horribly noisy; too much opinion, not enough data I suppose.

I just put Michelin Pilot A/S3's on mine and so far like them better than the DW's but I have not ran them in the summer yet.

SMOKEN, after running them both for a bit, which do you feel is quieter? I am really disappointed with the noise factor on the factory conti's that came on my car. and they seem to get a little bit of a flat spot after sitting for a couple days. it clears up after the tires warm up, but i hate it! do the Michelin's share the same issue?
thanks for sharing!
