  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My V8 is Sick

That's better than a Cube :D

We decided to move the cube to our condo in Florida with all the other weird people and stuff. Keep a look out for a white cube with a "I love my toaster" sticker on the rear window in the Fort Myers beach area in the next couple of weeks. Need to shop for a grocery getter for the wife, may look at a "fix it again Tony" as she likes those. :D

Good news is according to the computers the part is available in Korea. Bad news is it turns out everything is closed in Korea until next Monday for some kind of holiday. They need to confirm availability and have it shipped so I may be looking at a week or more. Only loaner option is a $35 a day discount rental car which is included in the warranty claim so it looks like I will be driving an econobox for a bit. :roll eyes: No big deal, as they say, shit happens.

A lot of overseas shipments are delayed by the labor dispute at the port in LA. I hope your part is not among them.

They'll fly the part in.

I would think they should inventory more parts state side. I can see waiting a day for a Fedex delivery from a US depot, but this ordering parts from S. Korea is cooling my jets about the Genesis.

Fedex from Asia is 2 days, just 1 more day than if stocked in North America so not a big deal. Problem is they closed shop for Chinese new year until Monday so my problem is bad timing right now. Let's see what Tuesday brings but I have a feeling it is going to be problematic. I have already told them to remove the part from a V8 they have in stock. We'll see how they handle this as it may very well effect my buying another Hyundai product if not done right. Starting off with a Chevy Cruze as a courtesy car when you hand in a $65,000 car is not exactly a good start.

I hear you. I guess my experience with a relatively trouble free Maxima and Avalon, is the parts were either available same day or at worst next day. Maybe we are in a new era, but if you are going to sell a higher end car you should back it up with service that can match Nissan and Toyota. Or, I have just been lucky. Good luck to you, I will be interested to see how you are treated.

I brought mine in for service and they gave me an Elantra ,so I said to the rep that's funny I bring in a $50k car and drive out with a $20k car, he wasn't too happy I said that and he said next time we'll get a Maserati

^welp, those five figure discounts vs. The big brands had to come from somewhere! Better the service loaner than the car.

Took mine in today for a free software update. They had a 2015 Empire State Gray AWD V6 warmed up and waiting for me in the bay as a loaner. Very pleased with that. This is the Service Department at Preston in Boardman OH.

Have you gotten your car back yet Midnightsun?

Yep, it was ready this morning. They finally removed the part from a V8 they had in stock as the part was not scheduled to arrive until Wednesday of next week. I cannot believe the amount of BS that needs to happen to get a part out via FedEx. They contacted Hyundai on Monday and got the confirmation the part was indeed in stock. Now lets give then another day to get it out on delivery so Tuesday it should be on it's way which normally takes 2 days from Asia so that is Thursday here. Why Wednesday of next week? To be honest with you they should have pulled the part from their stocker since day and therefor give them a fail with some gratitude for making an effort in the end.

Hi Midnight Sun, so is your car back to 100%? I can understand parts delays on a 1937 Bugatti, but this just does not seem right. Hope all is well.

So it means some poor soul is going to get a "repaired" Genesis when they are thinking it's brand new from the factory

Everything seems 100%.

It is an electronic part held in place with a single screw. No biggie at all as when the new one arrives they pop this one back in place and the new car will be like new.

Thanks for the update. Glad it's back rolling again for you. Do you have the part number for the part that failed? My be helpful down the road in case any of us has this same issue (knock on dash that it doesn't happen)...

Agreed.
Although I am glad you got yours back sooner Midnightsun as I would too. I do belive there should be some sort of legal disclosure obligating the dealer to state to the future purchaser that work was done on the car or parts replaced. I know it seems like a minor part but think of the posters on this site that found out later that what they thoght was a brand new car had actually been used for large part replacement or repaired and sold without notice.

This procedure of taking BO parts from new cars is rather common FYI. I know a few of my friends have had this service on their vehicles in the past so it must actually be extremely common. I can understand if the paint was damaged and it needed touching up I would definitely want to know but removing a part and replacing it on a car that is sitting in the lot unused is really not worth mentioning and has absolutely no bearing on its future function or reliability. No worse than removing the original air filter from the factory and putting in a new one IMHO. I cannot see why this would bother some of you.

For things like air filters, tires, etc. maybe, but internal mechanical items that require unbolting engine parts seems unusual and hopefully frowned upon.

Maybe up north its different...
