I don't think you can just blame hyundai for this. I feel for you..... But it is a used car. You had it check out but you don't know what the previous owner did to the car. Even the best mechanic is not a fortune teller and cannot see inside the transmission. Just look at the thread running just below this one entitled "What have you raced?" - use that to realize that unfortunately many people treat their cars like animals. I see videos of Genesis sedans on YouTube with the tires smoking and power breaking and all sorts of abuse. It's just sad really.
My comment doesn't do anything to resolve your situation or give you comfort I know. But you really cannot just blame hyundai because who knows what happened to the car in the first 60k miles.
I would hear your options at the dealer. And then if it's too pricey I would suggest you check with a transmission shop. I'm sure there are shops which can rebuild the 8 speed already. That will be a less costly option I am 99% sure.
The warrant for a non CPO is 5 years / 60k miles. So you are out of warranty for sure. You will need to shop for pricing now on a good rebuild.
