  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

.....and bought another. After toying with the fact for a few months, the lure of the V8 was too intoxicating. I was able to land a white pearl satin 2012 4.6, fully loaded, for just under $20k and 25,000 miles. Pictures to follow(I'm a tease), but it's in exquisite shape inside and out. The audio system is killer, but it's going to take me some time to acclimate to all the gadgetry on this thing.

Best news from my perspective was that I was able to transfer my exhaust, wheels, rigid collars, and catch can over to the 4.6 without a hitch (6 hours of work on my part). The V8's character is quite distinct from the V6 GDI. Not only is the V8 much quieter, but the mid-range pull is noticeably more violent in the V8 whereas the V6 is a sudden rush towards the top (still awesome, btw). Plus, it sounds ssssick with the Magnaflow on it.

I spent a lot of time on the V6 and loved that car, but the craving for more power and the legitimacy of a V8 for a performance sedan was too much to resist at this price point. I also know that this is the "rare" Genesis along with the '12 5.0 non-Rspec. 2012 was the only year the 4.6l V8 was sold domestically with the mid-cycle refreshed body, suspension tweaks, and 8-speed.

Welcome to the '12 4.6 club. The white is a beautiful color too!

Congrats:)

I just took my '09 out of storage last weekend! Glad I did because Yesterday, April 1st was 83 degrees in the Twin Cities and no this is not an April fools joke;)

I just turned over 43,330 miles on mine and I still love this V8. Some of you forum members that have been around a long enough remember the threads about a noisy/ticking 4.6 engine, which I also reported that mine was doing the same, but the noise was intermittent. I've been running 5W 30 Mobil 1 in my engine instead of the 5W 20 the dealer was using and it seems that might have done the trick. I have no more ticking noise at all even as of last year I drove the car, which was my 1st year running 5W 30. Thanks for the recommendation from member 427425:)

I can concur its sounds great with the Magnaflows. I believe I was the 1st person to modify the exhaust on a Genesis sedan 6 years ago. Since I put the MagnaFlow mufflers on, I have also had the MagnaFlow muffler X-pipe installed replacing the OEM H-pipe. This provided a better exhaust tone and really brought the drone down quite a bit.

Enjoy your V8! I'm looking forward to your new videos:cool:

:welcome:, welcome to the dark side!!!.. :grouphug:

You have chosen the sum of all my favorite bits of both of my cars... The smoothness of the 4.6, the 8sp, and the rare White Perl color...

With luck that 4.6 ECU tune is closer at hand, for that extra bit of power...

I am intrigued as to how you managed to remove the Rigit collars!?

Please do share some photos with your new/old wheels as I have been putting off getting a new set of wheels and donating those nice R-Spec wheels to Mrs 4.6 :D

Good move. The 4.6 is so smooth- the Germans wish they could have made this engine. No other V8 offers this combo of performance, fuel economy and reliability.

Removing the collars wasn't too hard, just time consuming like putting them on was. I have a pretty powerful impact wrench that made it easier this time, but getting the suspension lined up to replace the bolts takes some finesse.

I also fashioned a 4" to 3.5" intake out of aluminum piping I had left over from another project. I followed the design someone else on here posted (name escapes me, but it's a recent thread). With the exhaust it should allow her to breath a bit better.

Good. Now take it to the track ;-)

Better to buy used as I read article yesterday the the Genesis sedan is tops on depreciation of all cars after year 1...almost 38%

Not an issue if driving long term like myself-as I await the 2016- R-SPEC with the dual-clutch transmission possibly.

Are you saying that my V6 is an illegitimate bastard?

Absolutely not. The V6 is a great engine and is plenty of power for most people.

I guess it's more of a vanity thing (I know, ironic given I'm driving a Hyundai to begin with :)). The point that I was trying to convey is, in my opinion, the V8 is a proper engine for a luxury sport(ish) sedan.

There's just a certain rightfulness about having a burly V8 in a RWD sedan like this one - like going from a 528 to a 535 and having the grunt to back up the look.

I will say this as another first impression - I think the steering feel and precision on the V6 was a bit better as others have noted. I definitely got more feedback and a more acceptable weighting. I guess that's the hydraulic vs electrohydraulic contrast. It's the most noticeable thing I'm having to adjust to on the V8.

Well said. I'd just replace the 535 with a 550 since that is essentially what we have in terms of power.

I would think the radio upgrade alone is worth it and throw in the V8 for free.

The radio is exceptional. The volume is much higher too than on the base. I'm getting my car tinted on Wednesday. Barring no thunderstorms, I should have some pics up then.

Congrats. Saw 2012 pearl white 4.6 at a dealer recently. You come north of Mason Dixon line up here to buy that one?

Oh, IMO, the 2012 Harmon made sound system is clearer, and much cleaner deep bass than the 2015 Ultimate from the same manufacturer. Having both in my garage to do side by side comparison was telling. Especially on DVD audio.

A family member of mine is actually the GM at the new Hyundai dealer in Noblesville. He was at a Hyundai dealer in Lexington and took a new job to get this dealership off the ground.

He bought it at auction and let me know about it. I snatched it up. This will be my sixth Hyundai: Santa Fe > Tiburon > Sonata > Elantra > Genesis > Genesis.
