If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone,

This morning I noticed ripped leather on my driver seat. Picture below:

I remember I put my hand couple times in that area when I was getting into the car. I didn't expect that the palm of my hand would rip leather.

I emailed service adviser at my local dealership asking if the seat can be replaced under warranty. He replied to me:

Unfortunately, I can't do anything with it. Had it been that the seat was fraying at the seam, or coming apart, that would be something I can send in, but it has a tear in a non seamed area, meaning it was cut or punctured in some way. The picture attached is directly from Hyundai on upholstery claims

This is the picture that he attached to his email:

So, I have few questions.

1. Am I really out of luck with replacing the seat under warranty?

2. If yes, can I patch the leather with anything so the hole doesn't get any bigger?

Any advice is appreciated.

A good upholstery shop can order the correct leather material and repair the seat. I had a shop in my area replace the leather on the seat bottoms of a BMW I owned a few years ago. The replaced leather looked just like new, same color, design, and texture as original. Or find a seat in a salvage yard.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
You can buy repair kits as well. Homedepot carries leather repair kits in Canada. So I'd assume similar stores have similar products. I have had my driver seat leather replaced twice now due once to stretching and the once to replacement leather not fitting. and the rear seat is being replaced as we speak due to an odd hard discoloured spot in it. But I paid for extra coverage on my interior and leather.
Interesting to note. The leather in our cars isn't all leather. The service manager at my local shop informed me that only the perforated sections of our seats are actual leather. The rest is synthetic and or vinyl.

Thanks guys.

I found this repair kit in AutoZone. Will try it on weekend.

It will show and may just pull.apart.again as soon as weight is put on.it. It's worth a try I guess. But an upholstery shop.repair or seat replacement is a sure fix.; It's a nice luxury Car and worth the expense.

Absolutely having it repaired professionally would be best. But that stuff will work.

I had a similar condition on my wifes Mazda, almost the same place and type of material. From Mazda I was able to buy the top cushion section leather, the service manager gave me his price on the part and the dealers upholstery vendor did the work. Came out perfect, cost me about $150.00 . I was told by the dealer and leather shop that matching original colors is very difficult. That buying the factory replacement is the best way to go. Cheap price to pay for such a nice car as yours, Thanks

Please see my post. You have a nice car and your going to screw around with a $1.95 fix it kit---- to do this right you have remove the seat, take the seat assemble apart , remove all the clips, wires , clamps, screws retainers and dont forget the plastic pieces that only can be used once , that you must buy to reassemble --- Ive been through it. Thats it for me on this post.
