  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Same league as BMW and Mercedes!

My Genesis is a great car but it's NOT up to compete against it's German rivals. Not that it's a bad car, it's just a first attempt at luxury by Hyundai so it's obviously not going to be as good as models the Germans have been perfecting for 20 years.

- Our wood trim is actually plastic
- Our clock has light blue Casio watch back-lighting. The kind of watch your math teacher wore...
- Our steering wheel is hideous and has the same circumference as a pickup truck steering wheel
- Plastic around the shifter is poor quality and is easily scratched

These are just a few things that came off the top of my head. Not that the big 3 Germans don't have a few poor components of their own, but ours are pretty glaring. Every review written on the Genesis says this same thing too.

What really let me know this car wouldn't quite be up to the refinement levels the Germans, or even Japanese are on yet is the fact that Hyundai doesn't have a factory race team. Sounds weird, but that's how manufacturers can really perfect the way their cars perform.

This makes a lot of sense.
But let me ask you something: Do you refer to the high end of the Germans lineup or the "family" as a whole.
For instance would this hold true to Mercedes C, E and S series or just S?

It's a bit amusing to see the Bentley parked at a Walmart! Not that I have any issue with shopping there but it's stereotypically a blue collar shop.

I was going to say the same thing. Maybe they are trying to save some cheddar.

Reminds me of the time I saw a Rolls Royce in the McDonald's drive-thru a while ago. At the time I wondered "eating at McD's... is that how he saved up for the Rolls or is that all he can afford because of the Rolls?" Big white thing with the tall Parthenon-style Rolls grill. Unmistakably a real Rolls.

Imagine the dealer's service shop horror at finding french fries in and under the seats!

Don't forget that there are many improvements to the second generation Genesis Sedan (2015 model). I'm not saying they're on-par with Mercedes but Hyundai is getting closer and closer...

the Bentley parked at a walmart is not what stikes me as odd (although more common to see at Target).. but to put it so close to the shopping cart collection area.. I wouldn't even park my 1994 Suburban that close to one.. `

I believe the wood trim on the steering wheel and shifter is real while the wood trim on the dash is fake. I don't particularly like wood trim on my dash so I bought a car with the genuine leather dash trim.

He was there because the 20K maintenance of the Rolls is not free...

I agree the 2015 Genny looks like a sonata. The 09-14 grill is what makes the car so sleek

OMG! I want those LED DRLs! Is it possible to have those retro fitted to my 2011 4.6 w/HID?? That's the only thing I don't have that i desperately want!

Are you talking about the LED DRL on the 2012+ headlights? I was looking into the same information and from what I can tell they are compatible with the connectors the only thing I wasn't sure about is the status of the AFLS. I'd want to buy a set of AFLS equipped 2012+ headlights but I need to know if they will work with my 2010.

I'd just compare it with the E class because they're in the same league (similar size, features, styling, and all that jazz). I'd compare the Equus to the S Class.
Not sure about C class, Hyundai doesn't really have anything that can duke it out in that category but that makes sense, it's not really their ball park.

For sure, I haven't spent too much time in that car but from the little bit of time I did spend in it I noticed they changed all issues I mentioned in my original post.

Our Nesis may not be quite on par with ze Germans but our cars cost about 50% the price of their German equivalent and they're a hell of a lot more than 50% the car! I'd say we all got a deal. :D

ABSOFREAKINLUTELY! The Genesis is getting VERY close but the price is still far away. But get your Genesis now because there's eventually going to be a Genesis sub brand and the prices are going to go up... No good deal like this lasts forever.

Hyundai is leaving a LOT of money on the table with this car...

I shopped BMW, Audi and MB. To get what I got with my Genny, I would have paid twice as much. And I've had owners of all three of the others say they bought the wrong car. But the die hard European fans will never agree. And can you say warranty?!?

My ideal setup would be the Genesis with an aftermarket suspension setup that rides similar to the BMW with a bit less harshness.

The only 2 things I'd love to add would be a "sports" mode where the suspension turns hard and the exhaust noise sounds lower/throatier. That's it.

The problem with changing suspensions is I'd be driving over potholes all day and not enjoying it, but if I could switch between them, I'd be loving it.

As for parking, after getting my car washed and having them ask me if it's a Bentley, I drove out and funny enough, saw a line of Bentleys and Rolls Royce.

The wood on my dash is real (5.0), but it's that ugly black stuff that they make cuckoo clocks out of.

I shopped mainly the Mercedes E-class before getting the Genesis.

Big problem with the E-class was the ergonomics of the thing - I found it almost impossible to drive.

And, the Genesis is a much better looking car.
