  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New owner checking in...

I've heard of this kind of thing happening at a lot of dealerships. I don't remember specific ones but I don't think it's EXTREMELY unusual - but sad, none the less. That's a good bit of mileage on what's supposed to be a new car. What was their explanation??

They didn't have one. They apparently have a mileage reporting system they are supposed to use, and didn't. They couldn't tell me how it was put on, if it had be loaned out, test driven, anything.

Hugely disappointing and like I said it was the sort of thing I was worried about. This is so much money to spend on a premium vehicle that doesn't have a premium channel like Lexus/Acura/Infiniti or the Germans. Those all cost more, yes, but clearly there are differences.

Just terrible... Any chance of you giving it one more shot with another dealer? There are several around you:

The specific dealer - with Hyundai - makes a huge difference. For example, my local Hyundai dealership treats Genesis and Equus owners REALLY well. And it's a heck of a nice dealership...

I dunno, maybe. I had a really good deal on the car but the promotions just changed today so I don't think I could match it.

Hanlon's razor, right? I have to wonder if this was done with malicious intent or just simple idiocy. If they made a mistake I could forgive it, but I don't know if that's the case.

More likely par for the course. The object is to get you to come in the store - it worked. Did they try and push another one of you? If the car remained untitled, it was technically "new", but clearly should have been mentioned to you. Someone chose to get you in the dealer rather than detail the mileage - were you offered a deal on that car?

I bet this car was a manager vehicle. Do dealers have big Victoria Day sales in Canada the way US dealers do for Memorial Day?

This one was on the lot in the same spot the last few times I was there. I think it was loaned/demoed a bunch. It had been on the lot since September.

The promotions carried over so I could go to another dealership and match the offer. However, the GM called me directly, has told me he will source or order a vehicle to my specifications for interior and exterior, and do 'whatever else it takes' to save the deal. He's promising me it's an oversight and not anything malicious.

I might take him up on it if I get free oil changes for both my vehicles for a few years or something.

Nope they didn't offer anything else at the time. The vehicle was fully detailed and had my accessories installed. No mileage was disclosed until I noticed it.

Okay, well I hope you can get it worked out with a new Genesis. It's such a nice car and would be a shame to lose this opportunity (great deal; great car). Please keep us posted. And stick around in the mean time!

I would take him up on it and I believe it was the salesman's oversight. When I was looking and found the color combo of my car early on, I found it to have 400 miles on it. Going forward I had three stipulations that I conveyed to my salesman. 1) it had to be Montecito Blue, 2) it had to have Beige interior and 3) it needed under 20 miles on the odometer. Yes I had to wait a few months for the stars to align and yes I had to pay $200 to have my car shipped up from Miami to my dealer in Stuart, but I got exactly what I wanted in the end.

Yep a dealer tried to pull the "it's still new if it has several hundred miles" thing on me once too, and since then, when I'm checking on the availability of a car via phone, I always ask them to verify the mileage. I asked the guy, "If I drive a car off the lot, drive it for 700 miles and bring it back to you, are you going to buy it back from me at full price?"

Funny, that is exactly what I would want for colours too.

There is a Black on Black here at another dealership, I'm checking it out at lunchtime.

Well, the original dealer came back to me full of apologies, promise of delivery of a fresh off the boat car with the exact same options and colours, and a further $3,600 off the price...

I guess I'm a Genesis owner after all!

You're getting an amazing deal now. Maybe it was better this way after all. All it is - is waiting a little bit longer. I'd take it!

Apparently this deal is coming from the district manager. They swiped this car from another dealers allotment and applied some sort of customer service program discount to it.

Once I have the final paperwork I'll figure out exactly what I'm paying for the car but I suspect it's about $42k Canadian.

Congrats. Keep us posted. Believe me, it is worth the wait to get the car you want. You won't be disappointed.

So the new car won't hit port until close to the end of the month from the sounds of it. Anywhere from 2-6 weeks until I can drive it. I suspect, but could be wrong, that this one coming in might actually be a 2016. In the meantime I guess I can live vicariously through those of you here who already have their Genesis.

Wouldn't mind an opinion on the wheels I've ordered. I can't find a picture anywhere of these on a Genesis, mostly MBs and 5-series:

I don't think we're going to see the 2016 Genesis here for a few more months. I hope your sales person didn't say anything like that...

No nothing like that, but the GM needed the district manager to release the new car for some reason.

Hmmm... I understand your frustration, it's tough to wait on a vehicle. I had to wait like 4 months for my 1999 Cobra when I ordered it (not just me, there was a production delay with the 1999 Cobras when they were released holding them all up at the factory).

But if you're honest with yourself it is probably a want thing vs a need thing... Though for most people (myself included) buying a car is almost never logical and is always emotional.
