If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What do you want to see?

I'm interested in responses to this question because my BMW 335i lease ends next March. At this point in time the Genesis ranks very high on my radar as its replacement. To lock the Genesis in as my first choice, I'd like to see (as a U.S. build...)

1) LED headlamps. Both the new C Class MB and the BMW 3 series mid-cycle refresh are offering these.
2) Bird's eye camera view. I love this feature on my bimmer. It makes parallel parking a breeze. It can also save your rims when navigating a tight corner with high curbs.
3) Fog lamps. Why is a standard safety feature like this not available on the 3.8?
4) A fold down rear seat. This is standard on most cars today!

After one short test drive, I find these things to be a little weak, but probably not deal breakers:
1) The steering wheel. A thicker, more grippy steering wheel would be nice.
2) The sound system. The HK Logic 7 sound system on my bimmer really sounds richer. The system in the Genesis with the Ultimate package seems weak and tinny in comparison.

Oh, one more thing... Please replace the Hyundai logo on the trunk with the Genesis one; just like it's done on the hood. It seems most are doing it on their own anyway; so why put customers through the hassle of having to get it done or doing it themselves?

Otherwise, this second gen Genesis seems to be a masterfully built and nicely optioned automobile.

1) LED DRLs are actually standard on some non-US models and it baffles why the US version is different.
2) This is a very nice option BUT I could see this one not making it unless Hyundai decides to repackage their trim levels to accommodate a more expensive model.
3) It would be nice to have the it as an option...more money for them to make.
4) Another nice option.

1) This is a matter of taste and some people (like me), don't care for 245 width tire size steering wheels that BMW loves to put in their cars.
2) Bass is lacking (especially the 14-speaker setup) but the rest sounds great. I fixed this problem myself.

My dealer puts the Genesis emblem on every car that hits their lot. If you want the H, you need to ask for it.

Yes! I'd forgotten about the DRLs. That's a bit of a disappointment for 2015 as well. In fact, when we did our test drive and we asked the sales guy where the DRLs were, he pointed to where they are in Canada. :( I can add the LED DLRs to my wishlist... LED headlamps and DRLs.

I have looked at vehicles on the KIA USA site and see Bird's Eye View available on some of the vehicles there, so I don't think it would be difficult for Hyundai to add it to the Genesis. I'd like to see it.

I think they could add it to the Ultimate Package and charge a bit more.

BMW used to gouge you by making the folding rear seat a "pay for" option. Now they just gouge you in the list price of the vehicle on most models.;)

I guess that's true. Perhaps it will be available if they put out a Sport Model. What was that called in the first gen, "R?"

It's kind of sad that you have to do that....

I did ask the sales guy at the dealership I did the test drive if they do it. He said they have "a guy" who does it. I didn't ask about pricing.

Thanks for your reply!

Ironically #4 would be the hardest thing on the list to accomplish from an engineering perspective.

First, I like my 5.0 Ultimate Genesis just the way it is. But, if I had a crystal ball and can get other features, here is what I would choose.

1). Birds eye camera option that the Korean car has.
2). Rear Entertainment system with console controls and monitors behind the head rest. (I have 3 grandchildren :D )
3). The ability to program the car so when it comes on, it is already set to Sport Mode & Auto Hold on.
4). The ability to allow us to turn on the LKAS settings (auto steering) while we are driving instead of having to pull over, put it in park to turn it on.
5). The option to have the driver seat on the passenger side as well with all its bells and whistles.
6). RPEC or N version option where you get MORE POWER. Not that we need anymore power in our 5.0's but why not, you only live once :D.

AWD and twin turbos for the 5.0.

The birds eye view is on the Equus, as is the rear seat entertainment, etc. Basically, Hyundai would be crowding the Equus if they added some of this to the Genesis. I would expect not to see it until they get more mature in their brand image and decide where they are going in terms of the premium "brand" and "model" lineup.

Hyundai really is trying not to break out their brands, but they need to do it. Just like Nissan did with Infinity, Honda did with Acura, Toyota did with Lexus (and Ford hopes for with Lincoln). BMW and Mercedes are already premium brands and only need to define their models. But Hyundai needs to work this out. Genesis and Equus are both lovely cars however, they are not well defined by model and are mushed into the Hyundai brand which doesn't allow Hyundai to move options around as much from model to model.

I recall you did not like it that Hyundai would lower the top speed to 130 MPH via ECU update when H speed rated tires were put on (for 2015 tire recall).

If you drive your Genesis more than 130 MPH, I don't believe you will live once, probably just some fraction of 1.

Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti started in a different era, with vastly different economic conditions in the USA and the world. Trying to get potential dealers to put up $5 million to start a dealership is not exactly easy. I doubt that any banks would loan the money.

That maybe so - but it doesn't change the situation. No brand has successfully been low cost and luxury all under one nameplate. The only path for Hyundai to move is to separate the brands. Otherwise, they will always suffer from low pricing and not be able to move their luxury line into "perceived" equality with other luxury brands such as Lexus, MB, BMW, Jag... even Cadillac.

Even Ford knows this, which is why they are suffering to get Lincoln back even if it takes 20 years.

If Genesis is sold at separate dealerships, and prices increase $4K-$5K to cover the extra costs, then I am out. I am happy to buy it at a lower price from a Hyundai dealer and replace the rear emblem myself.

I agree that the price will increase. That is what Hyundai wants and needs to sustain their business. We are all getting great deals right now. But for Hyundai, they really have no choice.....

They can sell them as a separate brand at existing dealerships, but I don't see separate brick and mortar stores anytime soon. But looking at the big picture, Hyundai does not live or die on Genesis/Equus sales, which are dwarfed by sales of Sonata, Elantra, and Sante Fe.

Hyundai Motor America strategy so far has been to use Genesis/Equus to "build the Hyundai brand" in the market place to improve sales of their other cars. That is why they are sold as a Hyundai brand in the USA, and sold as Genesis/Equus brand in Korea.

Your recollection is quite fuzzy Mark_888. I would not care if I had a V6 and they offered up free rubber and had to lower the top speed. I have the 5.0 so no decrease in top speed would be required. I don't drive my car at those speeds nor do I plan to but it sure is fun pulling redline hole shots at red lights and looking in the rear view and seeing those cars behind you a 1/4 mile or so behind. :D

The dealer I bought mine from is opening a new dealership 1 minute from my house. They are slowly moving in but the driveway leading in splits the lot in 2. On the side where the showroom is is full of the regular hyundais. The lot on the other side only has 5 Genesis' lined up. (The 2 greys, 1 silver, 1 white and 1 black) Next to that is 1 equus. I like how that is done right now so they know what kind of buyer they have depending on which side they go.

You are correct in that I don't recall you actually saying you drove over 130 mph, but didn't you say that you objected to lowering the top speed just on a matter of principle? if not, please accept my apology.

Nope... Apology accepted...

+1^. Improving the car and features, by all means increase the price! Not for the so called luxury brand. Someone here mentioned and it's true, Mercedes still and for a long time Toyota would not sell cars under a so called luxury nameplate in their home markets while maintaining a soup to nuts product portfolio.

The gen 2 genesis is a game changer for hyundai and frankly the car sells itself once people take the time to cross shop it and discover the value offered. Decent, honest service is all I ask. Let the so called luxury brands smother their customers in lattes, pastries, n inflated MSRPs.

Unless you are arriving in the back seat or more accurately worried about your assistant's service "experience", consider leaving pretensions of luxury at the dealer door and just enjoy the ride.

One need not have a chauffeur to appreciate good service or one of the German brands.

While there are exceptions, the experience at the luxury brands can be better than what is normal at other nameplates. There is a price for that treatment and for some, it is worth the price. In many cases, those same prestige brand cars are heavily discounted and have heavily subsidized leases which may make the actual payment not as much of a gap as many assume. The danger being discussed here is buying a $50K car and getting the treatment of a $17K car. For some, that is unpleasant and robs some of the positive vibes of a car priced less than its competitor.
