  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2016 Hyundai Genesis?

I agree with you. It is an awesome car no matter what size it is classified as...

If HMA sticks with the gen1 approach, they'll make very minor tweaks to the car, but offer no new features in 2016. Then they'll finally give everyone fog lights in 2017.

Personally, I'd like to see the 2016 with stiffer anti-sway bars to reduce body roll. Then in 2017 when my 2012 is done I can buy one with 25k miles for $28k :D

In my opinion there was a bit more than just a minor change between 2009 and 2010 where Hyundai added EBS and adaptive cruise control to the Tech models, however the price jumped up by around $1k or so, if memory serves.

I think Hyundai will add some missing items, like fog lights and the LED DRLs as well as the long promised Apple play.

If they keep true to normal cycle, the 3.8 will hit the show rooms around mid April while the 5.0 sometime in September timeframe.

I think we'll have to wait for the 2018 model (announced in 2017 Detroit auto show) before we see any significant drive train changes with additional toys such as potentially self-parking, more enhanced HUD to keep up with the competition at which point the price will creep closer to $60k MSRP for the top model and with the base around $40k....

As far as 'ultra luxury' items such soft close doors, I do not think we will ever see them on our shores due to the minimal value proposition these things provide...

Just my two cents...

I think the delay in the 2015 5.0 was for technical issues relating to changes in the engine compared to the 2014 5.0. Since engine changes are unlikely in 2016, I would expect both 2016 3.8 and 5.0 to be available at the same time.

Generally, when Hyundai has a new and improved model, they release it as soon as it is "ready" (which is usually not known for certain in advance). "Ready" means thoroughly tested, all bugs worked out, and all certifications done (EPA, etc).

When no, or only minor changes are being made, the new model year is generally released in the Fall. But some minor changes (like fog lights on more trim levels) could move up the release date if marketing thinks it will improve sales.

US News classifies it as a midsize car. It ranks 2nd in their list of best upscale midsize cars.

I guess it really doesn't matter. I wouldn't mind it being classified as a full size/large sedan. What matters is it's a very good car.

The US News ranking is incorrect & they've used their own designation to categorize the Genesis. As others have pointed out accurately, the Genesis sedan is specifically classified as a Large Car.

i've been reading that the gen2 has very similar dimension to a 7 series. I wonder what size they classify the 7series?

The BMW 7 series has a Full-Sized Luxury Car classification.

This size debate is far from simple.
In my opinion the interior size should command, provided a proportional trunk space.
Bigger outside means next to nothing...

Little birdie who should be qualified as a "birdie in the room" says there still is raging debate on next "R-Spec" Genesis. He/she says there still is raging tussle from red blooded Americans, Koreans, and Sunnis (ever see the real Dubai super highway drifting and spinner videos?) who demand (and in secret created) a hard tweaked AWD TAU (5-6.X sized) instead of wheezing under pressure buzz saw V6 TT. No difference in weight between the two, and all concerned at Hyundai accept the fate of a heavy weight uber high performance halo sedan is the only way at the moment for this platform. 550+ HP el natural power with flat fat torque curve is being shown and demanded. No popping waste gate souped up delivery van 6 need apply.. On the other side of the coin is slamming the 3.0TT as is. Under powered, requires fake sounds played on the stereo to create the sounds. The international cadre of red bloods are fighting the international gang of metro males and nesting apron wearing engineers. The busy bodies to date have the upper hand, but the international red bloods are making progress in this battle. Stay tuned.

Also, I am searching for the professional drifter who cracked the ECU in the Equus and is winning drifting challenges. Anyone see that yet? Sounds very cool.

I don't buy into that theory. It comes down to the price of oil/gasoline (which drives customer demand for MPG) and government regulation of fuel economy (CAFE). Just because some people choose a V6 does not mean they want to prevent others from getting a V8 (with or without R-Spec). The two co-existed without any problems in the past.

Hyundai is in the automobile manufacturing business, and they have to make decisions about what they think will sell the most. They have to make these decisions years in advance of when their products are actually sold. Sometimes they choose wisely, and sometimes not. It's hard for them to predict the future. The have already been caught with the pants down by not having an upscale SUV/CUV, probably because they had no idea that gasoline prices would take just a drastic drop.

Likely both. .gov ever expanding regulations, and the culture battles. At this point, source indicated culture war was the top issue. Because no matter how they look at it, the Gen 2 Genesis does not fit (way too heavy) for the mpg goals (enhanced tech V8 or Boston pressure cooker V6/i4 in much lighter platform) for 2018 and beyond. For today, like other manufacturers, they are warring over what drivetrain (V8/V6, AWD or not) to put in top luxury performance version. For time being, they can satisfy their MPG goals and EPA with either motor or drive system..

Not to mention the extra weight of the Genesis provides the extra safety and top safety rating that they received. I would think it is hard to drop the weight and not effect the safety functions of this car. For me, I will take the extra weight and drive my 5.0 with a smile on my face :D

Did the extra weight really do that? Certain 7200 lbs pickup trucks have horrible safety ratings. More weight ore mandated pedestrian and "fair play with other lighter cars" mandates and regulations will make the Genny less safe. Ask those with "crumple zone" breakable frame (by mandate) pickup owners. They are in certain designs reported "less safe".

I am not hammering the Gen 2 weight.. It is what it is..

Hyundai just announced the 2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., October 19, 2015 - Hyundai continues to add compelling premium-market appeal to the Genesis sedan for the 2016 model year. HID headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) are now standard for 2016, while ultra-premium LED fog lights are now available on the 3.8 model, further enhancing the Genesis exterior lighting signature.

Also for 2016, Genesis 5.0 models are now only available in the fully-equipped Ultimate trim designation. 2016 Genesis models will begin arriving in dealerships in November.

The 5.0 price appears to have dropped even with the Ultimate now standard?

So if I understand this correctly, the new 2016 Genesis is basically a Canadian 2015 edition with all the recalls done. :p

Pretty much, but with a power rear sunshade and a better electronics warranty. The 5.0 AWD is still only your domain though...
