  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Uniq Performance Rigid Collars

I have it on BH 2014 3.8 for almost 2 months, and I can tell you for sure it did make a big deference for me.
Most of my driving is on highways and driving almost all the time 100 to 120mph.
before having the Collars I was scared to drive the car for more than 90 mph as it was not stable at all especially on a windy day, but now I can drive it up to 130 with convinced.

I'm hoping he means kmh, not mph.

He means MPH. Pretty common in parts of Europe. I've once had a Mercedes tailgate me and flash the high beams at me because I was going too slow. I was driving 200km/h.

I can confirm that my Genesis had the unstable feeling at those speeds before I installed my collars.

While I do have the collars installed and like them, I don't recall being "unstable" at much *any* speed, before or after. Maybe the 2012 was a little better dialed in that the 2009?

Actually, you are right. Unstable is an overstatement. The best way to describe it would be to say that the Rigid Collars added more driver confidence at excessive speeds (200km/120mph+).

Interesting. My 2010 has been up in the 120-130mph range several times on open highway without any feeling of instability, though it was fairly straight.

Ordered mine tonight...can't wait! Between the added throttle respnse of the airbox flapper delete and the tighter handling / improved feel of the collars it's going to feel like a brand new car.

I have a 2.0t Coupe and Uniq rigid collars was an excellent upgrade. It is a subtle but noticeable upgrade to the handling. You'll notice it as soon as you take your first drive. Customer service at Uniq is fantastic, but the directions on installation were not great, so look for instruction videos (there was one for the Coupe, not sure for the sedan) and check over the directions sheet very carefully.

There is a DYI guide Flynblind posted on the Forum in the Garage section
He did an amazing writeup

So I just purchased the Rigid Collars form Uniq Performance for my 2013 R-Spec and let me tell you if you own a Genesis Sedan you need to do this mod.

I want to thank Flynblind for the amazing write up. My mechanic downloaded your instructions and followed them to a tee. It took them an hour to do the work. So a great BIG thank you to you Flynblind.

This is the best and cheapest upgrade that you can do and have such a significant impact on the steering and ride quality. Well worth the $100 for parts and $100 for the installation.

Back to the drawing board for me. i needed some new tires on my 09 so took it in to Kal Tire here in Alberta and asked them to install the collars for me. Initially they said no, because they don't install customer-provided parts...but then one guy said he'd do it even if he got in trouble.

Then apparently they can't read as I provided the full set of instructions. The tech said that I was missing four of them (I provided 10)...

Long story short they didn't install them so I'll have to find another shop that will.

On a side note I asked Kal to get pricing for a full 2012 suspension swap (springs, shocks, struts and rear sway)...they said that Hyundai told them it wouldn't fit an 09, and that the price was $3,700 (Canadian) just for the parts. Sounds a bit high doesn't it?

If you're interested I have a 2013 RSPEC suspension on my car that will be replaced by coilovers sometime soon. This is all four shocks/springs and its currently installed on my 2010. Under 30k miles on them and I can sell them for peanuts compared to your quote.

Glad I could help. I took my time doing my install so that I could (attempt) to grab pictures.

I would say that the difference is noticeable and well worth the price. The car handles better and feels different with them installed.

My wife took my car today for the first time since I installed to collars, CAI, and exhaust. My wife is a speed freak and loves to get on the gas.

When she brought my car back to me (thankfully in one piece), she expressed her approval in all of the modifications. She actually said, "Honey, the car felt tighter. I gave it some gas and it took off but I felt the tightness in it, almost like a new car."

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Your wife is right flynblind. My car also feels much tighter and and like a new car. I wasn't too pleased with the steering before but now its a pleasure to drive.

The dealer installed mine (!) and right away I noticed an improvement in lateral stiffness, steering, bump handling etc...

EXCEPT

Like every other time I've been to this dealer they broke something. Can't tell yet but it sounds like they forgot to tighten a bolt in the driver side rear suspension...it sounds like a loose or broken spring or something.

Getting it checked out tomorrow. GRR.

I tried to PM you but I can't seem to send it. Is there a restriction on new guys?

Anyway, did anyone take you up on the springs, I would only want them.

Charles

Did the dealer rectify your issue?

yes luckily it was just an exhaust hanger and heat shield that was displaced a bit when they dropped the subframe...or that's what they said. Easy fix and no problem since. Great mod.
