  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you prefer the 2015+ Genesis over the previous generation?

how does the g2 scream ford? what specifically? the G1 interior is horrid.... large gaps between the doors and dash, cheaper materials and well documented terrible seats.

I have owned many cars from various manufacturers, mainly lexus and audi and the G1 interior in styling and fit and finish was nowhere near the quality of those. the G2 definitely gives them more competition. Many journalists that review these cars for a living will agree.

I know you are entitled to your opinion but I cant for the life of me figure out how you get Ford from the interior.

Everybody says so, so it *must* be true!! I'll make up my own mind. The Ford reaction to the interior was primarily because of the dash and the kind and size of buttons, etc. Hard to say specifically what. But every time we go to lunch in my co-workers car, I have exactly the same reaction. FWIW, she's in your boat, preferring the G2. Terrible seats? Not in my book. I just had to drive a Nissan Sentra 3 hours from Jacksonville to Charleston. Now *that's* terrible seats! A couple seasons ago, my wife and I took a week-long driving trip up the east coast from Boston to Maine. Couldn't have been more comfortable. All day long cruising, and no aches or pains at the end of the day. The time I've spent in the G2, the seats are nice, but not all that amazing. I've spent some time in a Lexus SUV, driving between Charlotte and Asheville, and I would compare my G1's Tech interior to the Lexus's interior, if I had to make a comparison.

Clearly I liked my 13 Genesis or I wouldn't have purchased one. I am just partial to the DH as I feel it is much more appealing.

And I like to stir the pot :-)

comparing the S-class to the prior gen Genesis is a stretch. Again, the exterior styling is much different and the interiors are absolutely nothing alike.

The shape, maybe, along with the fact that it has 4 doors and 4 wheels.

How about this then?

One is of the S-class and the other of the E-class.... I am well aware of what they look like. Yes, there are design similarities, but there are with many other cars as well. I obviously think these cars look much different than you do.

The exterior picture does little to explain the main differences I was referring to with respect to the interior.

G1 has no real pronounced design that makes it differentiate itself from many run of the mill sedans. It's just, normal....is the best way I can describe it.

G2 while having some design similarities to other vehicles is waaaay more unique than G1 in its styling. I've never been inside of a G1 so I can't speak to the interior differences between the two.

I'm sure G3 will make G2 look "normal"...at least I hope so.

I was hoping that some of the guys that have owned both would chime in. sitting in the car on the lot for a few minutes is much different than living with it day in and day out. having had both experiences the G1 doesn't even compare to the G2.

I am coming from a 2013 R-Spec. As I mentioned in my initial post I strongly believe that G2 is a much better designed car in almost every way compared to G1. G1 body style was an eye catcher almost 6 years ago but got outdated fairly quickly.
Who knows...there is a good chance in 5 years G2 will look outdated too.

I agree 100%. I think most people that have spent considerable time in the G2 would agree that the fit and finish and quality materials are much better than the G1.

FWIW, I haven't just sat in one in the dealer's lot. Now the periodic lunch run doesn't compare to day-in day-out either, but I'm not a complete stranger to the G2. If you were saying that the G2 is a somewhat better than the G1 in some respects, I wouldn't have much issue with that. But to say that the G1 doesn't even compare, that's where I have a problem.

I believe the exterior design is better, but not my the margin that the interior was improved.

As I said, the previous generation was a nice looking car. The interior was an area that I always felt the gen1 was really lacking. In my experience the seats weren't comfortable and the interior materials and fit and finish are at a new level.

I traded an 09 3.8 Tech for the G2 5.0 ultimate. I like the look of the G2 better inside and out I think but I must say I also liked the G1 equally as much when I owned it. IMO they are both really fine cars

The same team might have been used to design the BK2 coupes and the 2nd Genesis Sedans...both took a nose dive into the ugly pool.
For the same look and comparable features, just grab a Ford Fusion Platinum.

hardly true. the last time I checked the fusion doesn't come with a 5.0 V8.

As for the ugly pool comment... how much have you had to drink?

Nope, just a powerful, tunable EcoBoost and a ton of interior features (the vast majority of the "2015 is mo betta" argument)

Not enough to take one for the team with the ugly friend...sorry. :)

Yeah, I briefly owned a 2013 Fusion Hybrid Titanium, ordered from the factory loaded for my wife. I can tell you that the Genesis is in a completely different league than the Fusion. The only thing the Fusion had going for it over the Genesis was the 40Mpg average.

As for the topic at hand, I've owned both a 5.0 2012 Genesis (non RSpec) and I currently own a 2015 V8 Ultimate, and I previously posted my brief comparison here. I haven't really harped on the the 2012 too much because it sort of feels like when you're at fault in a break up and your friends nitpick her after the fact. Even after you've both moved on, you still have a soft spot for your ex (even if your new partner is better in almost every way).

On the drive to the dealership on my way to replace my 2012 with my 2015, I was on I-45 in Houston and had to open the car up to get around a slower vehicle who for no logical reason, moved from their otherwise empty lane into my lane, inhibiting my desired speed and path. When I moved over to pass them and I resumed my speed, suddenly the car that I had to brake for initially is now matching my speed (roughly a 7mph difference). I generally believe in giving people as much distance as possible when traffic allows, therefore I don't like driving next to anyone. Knowing that this individual was the type to slowly match my speed and stay near me if I passed them subtly, I floored it to get distance from them, and the old girl took off like a bat out of Hades. Smooth, fast, and effortless. It was a bittersweet moment because I knew I was on my way to break up with her.

I agree Sean, I have owned both as well. I did like my 2013 but as I said before, the interior was the main complaint as I felt it was subpar and dated.

I simply don't understand the comparison with the Fusion. The Fusion more closely resembles as Aston on the exterior than the Fusion and Genesis resemble one another. If there is a car the Genesis emulates, it is the Audi A7 with the body lines, the longer hood and short trunk, the trunk line, and the grill shape on the front of the car.

I want to take a second to remind everyone on this thread that these are opinions and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Opinions cannot be wrong or right. They can only be debated on non-factual grounds.

I just want everyone to remain as friendly as possible seeing as how this has become a little bit of a pissing match with everyone using the same equipment (if you catch my analogy).

Thank you!

OFG

Audi A7 is a hatch back. Completely different catagory
