  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does the 2015 G2 3.8L rwd w/Ultimate Opt have illuminated door sill plates?

Discussion is gud.

I'm not following you at all here. I think maybe you've missed the point of my comment.

Someone posts a request for links to a specific subject. PMCErnie replies with a rather snide remark telling him to check Google. How does that further the discussion? What do I learn from it? So the next time the guy has a question, maybe he just says, ah f*** it, who needs the aggravation.

I want discussion, I want a sharing of ideas and personal experience or spit balling. I don't see what's wrong with that.

Quite unfair of you, Focusin. You failed to mention the assistance that I provided to the OP. He thanked me for it too. The fact is, I didn't shut down discussion, I fostered it. Here is my later post on the subject which you failed to include in your remarks.

"As I said above Carls Bad, all you have to do is Google it. Your local custom auto shops install this stuff every day. Here's just one company's offerings.

http://www.wooddash.com/dashes.html

http://bitrimdatabase.com/newwdematp...&pts=&mode=wde"

By the way, Wowtrim.com also seems to sell a worthy product.

Unfair? Okay let's see.

Here are two replies. Which one is more likely to result in a brand new member (first post) returning to initiate another discussion?

Just Google "wood dash kit" and you can spend hours reviewing numerous vendors' offerings. Additionally, your local custom interior auto shops would be happy to give you some ideas. They install these dash kits every day.

You didn't search very hard. Just Google "wood dash kit" and you can spend hours reviewing numerous vendors' offerings. Additionally, your local custom interior auto shops would be happy to give you some ideas. They install these dash kits every day.

Focusin,

There are different kinds of people on the internet. Some are givers, and some are takers. The takers are often too lazy to even attempt to search for previous discussions on a topic, and they expect others to do that for them.

Does it really benefit a forum to have repetitive and different threads on the same subject? Or is it better to maintain discussion in a single thread (or at least a small number of threads) so that the level of discussion has a higher degree of depth and accuracy?

Funny, I didn't see Carlsbad's question at all like that, he mentioned he had:

searched the forum, but can't seem to find what I am looking for

and

I can not find a single vendor that sells replacement panels. And I looked!
Anyone know of any links they can send me?

So, I afforded him the benefit of the doubt, as a new member that very day, and even enlarged his photos for him.

Ernie, however, took a different approach and replied with a snide remark. My examples above show just how easy it is to turn a perfectly polite reply into a snarky, condescending one.

No, I did not know the answer, but I knew where you could get it.

That is not correct. I stated on page one of the thread that I did indeed go to the Hyundai website prior to asking my question, but, could only find info on the 2016 - nothing at all for the 2015 Genesis at that time.

I asked three different dealers about the differences in the 2015 and 2016 and not one of them had a clear answer. Maybe because none of them had actually seen a 2016 model at their dealership.

So I would not be so sure about stating that there are basically no changes in the year model.

Regards,

Ray

Ray, please let us know how easy this upgrade is. The Gen 1 upgrade to lighted sills is a breeze. Takes 10 minutes for two sills. What's great is that the connector plug for the lighted sills is already there, just waiting to power the new lighted plate. Plug and play! Makes you wonder why Hyundai crapped out on the Gen 2 hookup.

You have to wonder why some folks are so caught up in their own thing that they cannot stand to discuss the big picture of the Genesis. If ya wanna get picky, this thread should have been posted in the Lighting & Appearance Mod forum, not the '15 forum. There is a big wide world here, outside of the '15 forum. Some folks should visit it.

I have no intention of performing this upgrade. I was just asking a simple question about whether the lighted sills are in the v6 Ultimate option packages for 2015 rwd model Genesis sedans. I knew it came in the v8 ultimate option but was not clear about the v6.

As for posting in the wrong area of the forum, after reading your referenced post I went looking for that section and failed to find it (I later found it at the end of one of the two Wheels, tires, etc etc. areas). But, even if I had I think where I posted it is the better choice as I was not asking about a mod, I was asking about whether it came with the retail package in the 2015 3.8 Ultimate rwd model?

Regards,

Ray

You are 100% correct, Ray. We have Nikgen to thank for the confusion.

Another guy who wants to write the text of other people's posts.

I notice you didn't answer the question. Why is that?

Hmmmm... Let's see:

On a thread in the 2015-2106 Genesis Sedan Subforum titled "Does the 2015 G2 3.8L rwd w/Ultimate Opt have illuminated door sill plates?"

Ray asks:
"Just wondering if this is on both the V8 and the Ultimate Optioned v6 rwd."

Nikgen (who actually owns a G2) replies with:
"Only on the V8 and only on the front door sills. However, you can have them installed on a V6 by the dealer as an accessory - or buy the sills and do it yourself (you can buy as an OEM kit). "

Ray replies with:
"Thanks Nikgen for the quick and comprehensive reply. Exactly what I wanted to know about the lighted sills."

PMCErnie (who owns a G1, but may secretly long for a G2 given his frequent posts in the G2 forum) then replies with these gems of wisdom (commentary added):
"I seem to recall that lighted sills cannot be installed easily in some Gen 2 models (not true) . Something to do with lacking the needed wiring harness and no connector plugs under the sill plates. No such problems with 1 Gen models. (Irrelevant and not helpful to a G2 owner) "

And you claim I caused confusion???
How???
By actually answering his question???
Talk about twisted logic!

I thought we were done with this silliness for 2016? I guess not... In any event, I have nothing more to add as your latest post just makes you look silly so I'll just leave you with this thought:

You guys are right, it's a breeze to install lighted sill plates on Gen 1 vehicles. I love mine. Self-installed in about 15 minutes. Basically, the plug and play installation goes just like this:

Not so simple and much more expensive in the Gen 2 cars. Still, as we've heard, it can be done. Thanks for all the input!

My post was the second one in this thread (asking if you checked the Hyundai website), and I responded to your first post in this thread, which is linked here:
http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showpost.php?p=201754&postcount=1

There is nothing in your first post about you checking the website.

I didn't say there were no changes in the 2015 and 2016, since I knew about several changes. But there were not a lot of changes.

Reply removed to avoid proliferating this silliness (but it was a good reply ).

Let's say we just put a fork in this thread as the OP's question was fully answered on 3rd post on the first page - before "he who shall not be named" took us off the topic...
