Some interesting quotes from the article, most of which are from Cho Won-hong, EVP of Global Marketing
I strongly disagree with this one. In the beginning especially, people are going to be skeptical about the Genesis brand and want to know that the vehicles are premium. Touch, feel, firsthand verification of the build and materials quality that can only come with vehicle interaction will be crucial. Maybe they're thinking of bringing the cars to potential clients (a la Equus service when it first came out), but I don't see that as long-term win (in the US anyway).
Again agreed, though this can be changed over time with the correct marketing message (and continual product improvement).
Very interesting. No wonder they're trying so hard to get rid of the existing inventory. And I doubt very seriously we'll see a 2016 V8 Genesis as 2016 will be the last year of the Genesis sedan.

Given the big trend in digital technologies, I'm not sure the physical showroom is still a requirement

Agreed. We saw some discrepancy between what we want to be and the real perception consumers have in the market," Cho said. We believe Genesis will push it forward.
"We know ourselves. Our brand [Hyundai] cannot be recognized as premium by the customers. We cannot charge that kind of premium," said Yang Woong-chul, Hyundai Motor Group's vice chairman in charge of r&d. "It's about premium performance, not premium cost."

Interesting."Competitors like to put in new stuff as a world's first, whether the customers really like it or not," Yang said. "It's very easy to add very expensive components, but it adds cost. We are focused on engineering innovation."
Genesis could have used a pricey air-spring suspension to deliver an adjustable ride, Cho said. Instead, engineers found a less costly way to provide the same feel electronically.
The lineup will get two more sedans. A G80 will replace the Hyundai Genesis this year. Along with a new nomenclature, the sedan will get a significant freshening.
