If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Some interesting quotes from the article, most of which are from Cho Won-hong, EVP of Global Marketing

Given the big trend in digital technologies, I'm not sure the physical showroom is still a requirement

I strongly disagree with this one. In the beginning especially, people are going to be skeptical about the Genesis brand and want to know that the vehicles are premium. Touch, feel, firsthand verification of the build and materials quality that can only come with vehicle interaction will be crucial. Maybe they're thinking of bringing the cars to potential clients (a la Equus service when it first came out), but I don't see that as long-term win (in the US anyway).

We saw some discrepancy between what we want to be and the real perception consumers have in the market," Cho said. We believe Genesis will push it forward.
Agreed.

"We know ourselves. Our brand [Hyundai] cannot be recognized as premium by the customers. We cannot charge that kind of premium," said Yang Woong-chul, Hyundai Motor Group's vice chairman in charge of r&d. "It's about premium performance, not premium cost."

Again agreed, though this can be changed over time with the correct marketing message (and continual product improvement).

"Competitors like to put in new stuff as a world's first, whether the customers really like it or not," Yang said. "It's very easy to add very expensive components, but it adds cost. We are focused on engineering innovation."

Genesis could have used a pricey air-spring suspension to deliver an adjustable ride, Cho said. Instead, engineers found a less costly way to provide the same feel electronically.
Interesting.

The lineup will get two more sedans. A G80 will replace the Hyundai Genesis this year. Along with a new nomenclature, the sedan will get a significant freshening.

Very interesting. No wonder they're trying so hard to get rid of the existing inventory. And I doubt very seriously we'll see a 2016 V8 Genesis as 2016 will be the last year of the Genesis sedan.

^Found a way to electronically adjust the ride, and then discontinued it in 2016...

Very good article, looking forward to Starbucks at the Hyundai dealer!

Interesting - I suspect they mean the 2017 G80 will be available late this year as would be expected - but you never know, maybe an earlier launch - though I don't see it hitting before the flagship G90 does?

The EQ900/G90 specs list an available CDC-type suspension:

"To ensure occupants enjoy the smoothest ride while retaining engaging handling characteristics, the G90 is fitted with multi-link suspension paired with High Performance Dampers or the Genesis Adaptive Control Suspension system."

I assumed they were referring to the G2 Genesis which dropped the CDC for 2016. I know it does not get much love on this forum but it's important IMO.

would hate to buy a 2015 v8 if they were gonna launch this as the 2016 model. hmmm, do i wait, or get one now?

I doubt they'll be available before late fall, and there may not even be a 5.0 version given the 3.3T - but it's all just a guess at this point.

One thing I'd bank on is that the G80 will be more expensive, so... if you realy want a 5.0, I'd grab a sure thing 2015 while they are still available - you also can likely get a really good deal on one.

My feeling is they will do the same as they did with the Gen1 2014 Genesis. The model sort of never appeared as it was not available in Canada and only in limited numbers in the States. They then introduced the Gen2 in late 2013 and was available in April of 2014. Sounds like the 2017 G80 "Genesis brand" will appear sooner than later if you ask me.

Brand perception is huge. I am a boat guy so let me fill you in on a little Bayliner history. Largest producer of boats in the world by the way. They had rather nice and well built motor yachts however Bayliner like Hyundai had a bad rep from the past and even though these big yachts were excellent they were still called Bayliners. Brunswick corp decided to disassociate their Motor Yacht from Bayliner just like Hyundai is doing now. They are now called Meridian. Same hulls pretty much the same boat but paid a little more attention to the details. Most people with Meridians have no clue they are in a Bayliner which otherwise they would not be caught dead in. The Genesis branding will surely succeed in this respect however if you still need to go to the Hyundai dealership for service, I can see where this will hamper the approach. Even with separate facilities in the same dealership, it remains a Hyundai garage.

After the first six nameplates debut by 2020, executives will re-evaluate whether Genesis needs its own channel, Cho said.

Sounds like separate dealerships may only appear after 2020 after an evaluation so my guess is no sooner than 2022.

They also have to determine interest from existing or new dealers to invest in a sufficient number of separate dealerships.

No doubt it is the same. When all is said and done, we will have a relatively rare car :-).

Reminds me Mercedes ADS suspension of the 90's. In those years, Mercedes was the forerunner with new tech. They had pano roofs, ABS, air bags, first fully automated rag top, automatic roll bar deployment and the list goes on and on. They also sold for over $100,000 back then. I do not have this feature on mine but even though it is an expensive to maintain and troublesome feature, a model with this is rather sought after. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JuugWScKrs

a very interesting read. I'm wondering how extensive they will go with the G80 refresh. I'm sure the 3.3t is a given, but I'm more curious about the exterior and interior upgrades. This is very exciting to watch the birth of the Genesis brand, Hyundai moves at an incredible pace which makes me curious to see how this all plays out over the next few years.

I'd guess a rework of the lower front end and headlights/fog lights to look more like the G90 and a reworked rear end - but not sure if they'll change the tail lights to be the more vertical orientation of the G90 or just tweak the more horizontal layout of the current G2.

I'd also expect more upscale materials/switch gear and less hard plastics on the interior (probably a stitched leather dash cover, and maybe a velour headliner too?). Maybe a new AVN system as well - with Android Auto/Carplay support.

It will be interesting to see how this evolves - though it may be tough on those that just bought a 2016 if they do bring out a markedly different car mid year.

your guess sounds pretty reasonable based upon typical Hyundai refreshes. I hope the tail lights retain a similar shape to the current car versus what the G90 has.

I don't know if they will retain the same tail lights for the G80, but I doubt they will look too much like the G90. They need to have some product differentiation between the G80 and G90, and it looks like the fronts are fairly similar.

Considering the difficultly in moving 2015's off the dealer lots, I doubt they will do anything to increase the cost of the car. I think it will be mostly mid-cycle refresh stuff, rather than major changes.

Unless the survival of the Genesis brand is dependent on having dedicated dealerships, I see no benefit for current Genesis owners (like those on this forum). All the "perks" such as loaners and fancy waiting rooms (with potted plants) do not come without costs and those will be reflected in the purchase price of one's next G90 or whatever. In looking at the pages in this forum devoted to getting the best price when negotiating leases and purchases, it appears that the current Genesis buyer is price driven. Dedicated dealerships will likely resemble those for Audi, BMW and Mercedes together with their snooty attitude: if you have to ask the price, you cannot afford the car. I've owned two Genesis sedans because they are a good value, however, I don't see that getting better by moving the car to a "luxury" dealership. Moreover, it's probable that these new dedicated dealerships would not have the volume of a traditional Hyundai franchise - where it can afford to sell a Genesis at cost because it just sold 50 Sonatas (that day).

I think it will be a little more as this is not just a typical mid cycle upgrade given they are trying to create a new model identity in the new, free standing brand - especially upgrades in some interior materials/switch gear - but time will tell.

I am sure that would like to build a whole new car for the debut of the 2017 G80 later in 2016 (effectively the 3rd generation of Genesis sedan). But sometimes we can't always get what we want.
