Hi All!

He is my story:

Bought the car, drove to Chicago. I noticed that the car was pulling to the right and felt a vibration in the steering wheel and through the seat (my passengers confirmed it was well). I thought since the car sat at the dealer for 6 or so months I thought too that it needed to be driven. Well 220 miles later same problem. The car has the Michelin's by the way. Go to the dealer and they confirm it needed an alignment as well as the wheels balanced. They did a crap job of both, steering wheel was crooked when finished and car still had vibrations. Took the car back for a 2nd wheel alignment while better but still isn't where I would like it (but its in spec). Take my car to tire rack for them to balance the tires as I didn't trust the dealer; low and behold they did a horrible job was not surprised. Tire Rack is awesome by the way as they did an awesome job and got the tires road forced as well as balanced properly. Dealer also said the tires are out of round, but I as well as Tire Rack confirmed they are not. Now the car doesn't vibrate as much but feel it is in the drive train. It doesn't vibrate on all surfaces as well, which is weird. I am thinking about buying new tires, continental DWS 06, but am unsure. What do you all think?

Thanks!

The DWS get great reviews. I have the Michelins. I had them balanced a week after I got the car. My issue has improved with mileage. I'm now at about 1700 miles, and I have just a touch at about 70 MPH. If you get the DWS, post your results. If that resolves the issue, I may press for that as well.

I replaced the M tires with Conti DWS on my Azera and loved them... I will replace the M tires with DWS when I get more miles on the M tires

I remember reading on the older GEN that people had to ignore the "In Spec" as far as alignment and had to hit a tighter tolerance to eliminate the issue. Confirm where your at in regards to the tolerance. Might just need it dialed in a little more.

Installed Conti DWS tires on my '09 Genesis and they lasted more than 40K. Also, the tires were head and shoulders above those OEM Dunlop dogs in ride, rain and handling. Following my positive experience with the Genesis, put them on my 350z and VW TDI sportswagen. The latter has the newer DWS 06 tires, but I haven't had them long enough to determine any improvement over the earlier DWS tire. Given the price, they're a great tire.

The steering wheel is still a little off center when driving in a straight line. I don't have the alignment print out but the service rep showed me. I'm taking my car to a private repair shop to have it looked at. The dealer should fix this but I'm tired of wasting my time with them.

Hi all. I am picking up my new 2015 AWD Genesis 3.8 this Saturday. I haven't signed the papers yet so I'm looking for advice on how to deal with the potential vibration problem. I have test driven the Genesis at two dealerships. The vibration was noticeable at the first test drive but the agent said it was a bad road. At the second dealership they said it might be the tires from sitting.

So I'm two for two on vibration, both had Michelin tires which I have had good experience with in the past. What should I have written into the purchase contract to ensure this is handled properly in the likely event the new car has the problem? (I haven't driven it yet) Do you think it is solve-able with the right alignment or other remedy?

You cant have issues "written" into the sales contract. Sorry.

You can however ask to do an extended test drive in the car you are wanting to buy. If the car has the issue, you then take it to service to see if they can fix it before you purchase.

If they cant fix it, don't buy the car.

If they do fix it, you have the issue logged in to service if it ever comes back.

All,

I just got 4 new tires put on the Genesis. I got the continental dws 06's. Vibration is gone! Car handles much better too. I got the tires 3 of the 4 tires warrantied through Michelin had to pay the difference and for labor. Not a bad deal. I'm trying through HMA to see if I can get the rest of it back.

I also got a neat peace of info from HMA as well, they put the Michelin tires on the car due to the Ultra High Performance Tires not giving such a luxury ride (the original hankooks were ultra high performance). The grand touring all season tires ruin the car's suspension as Lotus did a PHENOMENAL job of tuning the car. It handles much better with the new tires.

Did you have the dealer do this, or did you get this handled at a tire dealer?

I went to tire rack as their main warehouse is 15 mins away from me. Tire Rack handled the deal with Michelin and I picked out what tires I wanted. I didn't want to piss with the dealer as I didn't want to waste time with them. I went to the 'horses mouth' so to speak and took care of it myself. If the dealer couldn't balance the tires right then I didn't want them to do anything more with the tires. Besides, the dealer told me they did all they could with the tires, they didn't even offer me new tires. The dealer said drive the car some more, like that is really going to help to fix bad tires. I have been driving cars for 20 years and know when I have a tire problem since Tire Rack did balance the tires correctly. It was a process of elimination.

Also keep in mind that Hyundai won't deal on the tires, you have to work it out with Michelin. You also have to go to a Michelin dealer to warranty the tires. Right now I am trying to get Hyundai to cover the difference of the tires and labor. They should at least cover the labor because they DID install the tires on the car and the tires were defective.

***If you have a tire vibration problem and a balance won't fix it; you have bad tires. Period. Michelin credited me 3 tires. You only have 30 days after you purchase the car to get the third tire refunded and after 30 days, you just get 2.***

This. Is GREAT news. Been trying not to let my vibrating car ruin my new car experience, but it's been an uphill battle!!

How's the road noise? I suspect one of the main reasons Hyundai chose the Michelin Primacy was that is was quiet. Wondering how the DWS compares.

The DWS 06 - key distinction not plain DWS, are not much louder than the Michelin's. Handling will be better at the expense of two things: expansion cracks in the road make greater noise and bumps are felt more at highway speeds. Keep in mind that the ultra high performance all seasons don't give such a luxurious ride as grand touring all seasons. I personally like performance over luxury, and since lotus was involved in tuning the car it is supposed to be more sporty as in BMW 5 series. Ever rode in a BMW 5 series? If not, then putting the DWS 06 make the rides very comparable. I immediately noticed the car being more responsive, but the key thing to keep in mind is that the car doesn't vibrate anymore. I guess a different class of tire can be put on the car but at the expense of performance. You have to decide what is more important and ideally it would be great to strike a balance but I choose performance. I also didn't want to run winter/summer tire setup due to buying a new set of rims and the hassle of taking rims on and off. I do all of my own work when I can. Also if you decide that the DWS 06's are not your tire, then Continental gives a 30 ride guarantee, but you will have to pay mount and balance for the new set of tires. I'm going to drive on them a while and see what I think yet. I'm just glad the vibration is gone!

What would be the main difference with the regular DWS vs. the DWS 06?

If you go to Tire Rack, they review almost every tire. The big difference between the two is that Continental put inserts into the side wall to improve handling while the original DWS was a little soft in cornering (I actually have the DWS and DWS 06 to compare, but they are not the same wheel size). Noise wise they are probably the same and as well as the same if not better in the snow. Keep in mind this is arguably the best all season tire for snow traction; it also excels in dry and wet handling hence DWS. The DWS 06 also has 3D tire tread and the DWS doesn't.

Ignore Jboogie. Of course you have have a dealer promise to correct the issue in writing. It's called a "we owe" and don't sign unless you get a we owe form from them promising to correct the vibration issue.
