  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

First oil change

They ask for receipts and proof. If they do the service there is no dispute. You could draw out your claim for weeks or months trying to substantiate the fact you serviced your vehicle according to the schedule.

hmmm that is interesting, but i dont trust them to even do an oil change so that is a chance I guess im willing to take. Ill just have to log it in the book i suppose. But either way I dont think they can still deny warranty claim on an engine because I dont have proof of an oil change as many people do it on their own.

I think they would seriously have to prove without a doubt that the engine oil was the cause of the engine malfunction and cant just say hey you dont have proof of an oil change so warranty denied. Pretty sure they would have to do oil analysis and inspection of everything on the engine to really come up with a definite answer whether or not something was caused from oil.

I do my own oil changes, and would have no problem proving that I did them. I save all the receipts, including the UPC code from the oil filter box. I record all the information in a spreadsheet, and also record it at www.myhyundai.com

As I mentioned above, if you keep good records, and use the OEM filter, and use oil that meets Hyundai specs, there is no problem doing the oil changes yourself. But you must change the oil at least once every 7500 miles.

I forgot to mention when I had my first oil change using the Mobil1 EP I purchased, I was surprised that the service tech asked me what oil change interval I would like the car service alert set to. He mentioned 3k but I opted to set it to 4k. I later changed it to 5k. It dawned on me afterwards why didn't he set it to the recommended 7500 interval vs asking me??? That was quite interesting.

Dealers make money by selling services to customers. They are independent businesses, not owned by the manufacturer (at least in the USA that is the case). They don't care what the "Hyundai recommended" interval is, they are trying to make a living and feed their family.

Thank you very much to all who replied (especially "Mark 888" - you seem to really know your stuff - Thank you for helping all of us) it is very helpful.

Wow I just went to the dealership to buy some oil filters and I just can't believe how small the filters are lol. How can this filter 5+ qts for 7500 miles....send so small but maybe every other car has just over sized it?

Either way I was just shocked at how small it was...and I hope it is the right size cause it sucks to be in the middle of an oil change and have the wrong filter

The filter for the V8 is tiny also & has to be precisely centered between two separate posts when installing.

yeah just seems kind of crazy to me, but I guess it works otherwise hyundai wouldnt be giving out the 6 year 100k mile warranty on the powertrain.

The oil filtration system and filter are made by Mahle, which provides similar systems for many manufacturers.

For those of you who do their own oil changes or prefer to buy the oil and provide it to the dealer, Mobil 1 synthetic is currently for sale at Walmart for $22.88, a "rollback price" for the 5qt jug.
Mobil 1 5W-20

And you can get a $12 rebate for each jug through Mobil oil. If you are buying 2 jugs for your thirsty 5.0 engine, just purchase separately and get 2 receipts for the rebate submission. Rebate Info

Rebate submission site: Here

Do the math...

The promotion ends October 31, 2016

Awesome, thanks for that! Comes in handy.

That is actually not a "sale" price. It is their new "rollback" price, which presumably will hold until oil prices increase noticeably.

I so humbly apologize for that grievous choice of terminology and have edited the post.

I just wanted to make sure people knew that was a permanent reduction, and not a temporary one that would expire soon. That's the difference.

Of course, no one knows what the future price of crude oil will be, which has some impact on the price.

Someone posted about the previous Mobil 1 rebate that expired in June, and I mentioned the same thing about Walmart not listed among the retailers. The member who mentioned the rebate said that, even though Walmart is not listed as participating in the rebate, Mobil 1 will accept rebate requests for oil purchased at Walmart. I haven't tried it myself, so I cannot vouch for that.

Too bad Amazon isn't included either....
Not sure why you would want to purchase from Amazon, considering the very low Walmart price.

However, it says "includes" which may mean that there are others not listed. I would contact Mobil 1 via their website and ask about retailers not listed.
