With the debut of the new Genesis brand this year what are your thoughts on how it will affect resale values of the 2009-2016 Hyundai Genesis?

Pretty Woman was just a fictional movie. You can't "train" low class people to be upper-middle class.Genesis needs to train their dealers how to sell Genesis cars...

Great question....
I think it will go one of two ways....up or down.
Seriously, Hyundai resales values are already low; imho, v2 will retain some value longer; v1 may be impacted a bit more (now they will be two Gen old). But, i am assuming most here did not go in hoping for great resale/residual....but more for the fun/features of the car
I just bought a G80 for $50K and the buying experience is just like every other car the Hyundai sells. The dealer sold both cars from the same showroom and treated them equally. Genesis needs to train their dealers how to sell Genesis cars and open different showrooms for them. Unfortunately the dealer that I bought from informed me that I am the first Genesis buyer for them after having cars on the lot for 3 months. This dealer obviously can not open a separate showroom and is doomed to destroy the Genesis model for exclusivity. I bought BMW's and Infiniti's in the past and the buyer experience was very different.
When I signed up for blue link (while traveling) on our 2015 Genesis at a dealer who sells them regularly and has several service techs trained to their specifics, he told me they'd sold 2 that week (I was in on a Thursday, I think). He said having stand alone Genesis franchises is down the road (many of you may know this already so forgive me if I'm being repetitive). So, in terms of value I believe the Gen. 2 will hold well (especially if the trunk emblem is changed. He showed me one of the 2017s on the floor and it's so similar to a Gen. 2 that IMHO they'd been better to wait until ready for a different generation genesis before separating. Maybe they will be more selective in which dealers can sell/service them so that might make them more exclusive! The dealer closest to me has one tech trained on Genesis so I go back Tuesday (for the 3rd time) to hopefully finish the recalls and a repair to the fuel lid release. One thing I like about owning a Genesis is you just don't see as many of them so people are always inquiring about it. That's a good thing and if the trunk emblem is changed it's a GENESIS!
If they did that, then the G90 flagship would not have been a brand new model at Genesis Motors launch. The G80 and G90 are not on the same update schedule, for reasons that should not difficult to understand.I don't think your idea would have been bad - wait until the next generation of "Genesis Sedan" (3G) to release the Genesis Motors brand - but that would be another 4 years away.

Obviously, you bought the G80 anyway. Why?
I remember seeing a G80 in the showroom and it seemed much like our 2015 5.0 Ultimate.
the G90 looks like the Equus to me! [...] the 2017s appear to be the 2015 and 2016s renamed (including the Equus).
You probably saw the 2016 Equus, even though it in the place where the Genesis Motors cars will be sold.I remember seeing a G80 in the showroom and it seemed much like our 2015 5.0 Ultimate. As I understand it, the G70 is the coupe and the G90 looks like the Equus to me!
