If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Sunroof Rattle

Call the CEO HMA - posted earlier in this thread

Did you get a full new top/sunroof? Are you / is yours rattle / creak free?

I got the entire sunroof replaced, and the creak went away, but it is now starting to rattle and pop even more.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Yikes, I wonder if I can ask for a discounted bumper to bumper CPO warranty bc of this or something...

They gave me 3 months worth of car payments and extended the bumper to bumper to the full 10 year 100k warranty for compensation

Thanks, if I'm in the neighborhood I will definitely do that. I don't expect powder, or even anything fancy. Just a fair diagnosis of issues, and...imagine this...a fix! A loaner prior to their ordering parts would be nice too (have been told multiple times Hyundai will not authorize a loaner if no parts are on order).

I must've had great luck with pano roofs, absolutely no noise from a
-BMW X5 (80,000 miles before sale) $70k
-BMW X1 (40,000 miles) $39k
-Jeep Grand Cherokees (few in the sample at 30-50,000 miles) $38-52k

If Jeep can do it, so can the Koreans :) it's not rocketsurgery

ETA: And I get that most automakers outsource components to other manufacturers. But when they put said component it in their car, the ownership falls on them (in the consumer's eyes anyway).
LOL he says an extreme reaction. Must not have experienced the same thing some of us have. Bought a 40k "luxury" car and got squeaks and rattles galore. Nothing minor about this. There shouldn't be a single noise for that money.

I think so too, we the consumers are also doing them a disservice (given the new brand/spinoff) if we don't give them feedback on what seems to be a pretty widespread issue. If they don't address things like this from the beginning, they're in for a rude awakening in the future.

I still chuckle when I read reviews on the G90 (that talk about it's puny sunroof)...wonder why HMA did that..

Got the car back the 15th. Sunroof still making noise. Took the car back on the 17th and it is still at the dealership. They called today and said it is still making noises and that they are going to escalate the issue.

I expect sooner or later they will want their new G80 back. 😂😂😂

I just hope they can get it resolved.

Dealer called this afternoon.

They need to keep the car into next week.
😯😯😯

They drove the car with no headliner and the noises went away. Their focus now is to insulate the headliner.

I think I read an earlier post describing something similar that didn't work.

Well we'll see what week three has in store.

Sunroofs are made to rattle and crack and creak - So what else is new?

It's just another scam option to boost prices.

I've never used mine for all the reasons set forth in the last 506 posts!

Maybe that's what I get for using mine once. 😂😂😂

Update on mine. They have ordered a new sun roof. But I told them after they took it apart and rebuilt it the noises were gone. Then I popped/tilted the sunroof a few days later and went over some rough road, heard a loud crack and the rattles immediately started again. Sounded like a nut or something broke loose. Hope this all helps...

Update on my situation. Back around February they replaced the entire panoramic sunroof due to extreme noise as well as the seal separation between the glass panels. That completely fixed the issue until about August of this year (so about 6 months of noise free driving). Then the noise came back and increased overtime. I dropped the car off last Wednesday evening. Today they had a field engineer come out to help diagnose the source of the noise. I received a voice mail that they found that one of the plastic covers in the assembly had some cracks in it, and the flexing of that piece was creating the noise. So they have new covers on order for tomorrow. Unfortunately this diagnosis and repair will result in my being without my Genesis for a full week (they gave me the smallest Elantra hatchback they could find on the lot as a loaner). So tomorrow I will ask them what causes that piece to crack over time, since to me unless they understand that this will just happen again in another six months or so. Hopefully the noise will be gone tomorrow when I pick it up.

I'm a new Genesis owner,(2016 Ultimate) and this thread tends to concern me a bit lol curious as to just how prevalent this problem with the Panoramic roofs is on the Genesis and why hasn't Hyundai jumped on to what seems a major problem especially with the recent news of sunroofs flying off Sonatas!!

This thread amplifies my desire that Genesis be offered an Ultimate or lessor model without the panoramic roof. Just think: better roof insulation, less wind noise, and less rattles due to a stronger body shell. I have offered my opinions to "Hyundai Listens", but to no avail!

Yup - the design has problems. As much as I like the pano roof, I don't like the creaks and rattles on both model years I have owned owned (due to this problem). I too wish they offered a regular sunroof. The absence of a pano roof on the G90 is telling, I suspect? The Sonata issue is also concerning as the roof designs are similar:

That's an interesting article. I definitely want to better understand why the plastic covers on my sunroof would just crack like they apparently have. Since they replaced my panoramic sunroof back in February, I've probably only opened my sunroof a couple of times. So for it to crack, something inherent in the design of the vehicle must be causing it, as opening it a couple of times should not cause the mechanism to crack.

I did show the service manager at the dealership the rigid collars from another thread here, and how maybe those could help reduce what seems to me to be excessive body flex in this vehicle (probably due to it's length and the fact that almost the entire roof is made of glass). Because it wasn't a Hyundai part they were not interested to pursue it.

I hopefully pick up my Genesis this afternoon after them having it for a week to identify the source of the noise and replace the cracked plastic pieces. I will definitely ask for the root cause of those cracks and what they are going to do to stop it/warranty it from occurring again.

Maybe Hyundai will eventually recall the sunroof on the Genesis.. I suspect that i due time just about all owners will experience some sort of rattle or wind noise.. I've experienced some rattling and possible wind noise up top (rear view mirror area)... probably that seal that runs across the top...

I thought they would only recall for a safety issue? I guess one could make an argument about glass, or seals and leaking.

They wont recall until they have a viable solution... a permanent one. Simply replacing it does not fix the problem. It is a design issue. I can tell you that at 3000$ in hardware and 750$ in installation they are feeling the impact of this for those who are doing it - especially multiple times. I think this is precisely why they are not putting the pano in the G90.

Agree - We've never liked /wanted the Pano, just overkill IMO. I think most folks simply want the benefits of open air coming in etc. We have never left just the cover open to let the sun/stars show as we prefer the sound deadening the cover provides.

I'm sure their engineers are workong O/T for a permanent solution but I also feel it's likely a design issue which is much more difficult to correct in the field.

We love the car so will stay positive that they figure it out..

I actually really like the pano. I don't open the sunroof because I don't like the noise, but I like light inside the cabin. The kids like it, too. But I would prefer one that didn't have problems...
