No sound out of speakers

Bernie,

I appreciate your frustration. They replaced my amp with an updated version in mid-Feb and it works fine, now. Prior to that, the dealer went through replacing the head unit, software updates and reloading the operating system. I told them I either wanted it fixed, a new car or my money back as I was well past the requirements for our state Lemon Law. It may be my imagination, but the new amp even sounds better.

What made it difficult for the dealer and frustrating for me was its intermittent nature. The problem would arise for me, but not at the dealer. It finally acted up at the dealership and they called in the field engineer. However, it worked fine for the engineer. Finally it acted up for the field engineer and things began to move quickly.

During the amp installation, they could not retrieve my discs from the head unit and they replaced it for the second time. The first replacement did not solve the problem.

Now that I have confidence that Voice Command will actually work when I press the button, I find that I use it regularly.

I hope they get your car straightened out soon. Hyundai is aware of the problem as I was told that Hyundai is using the problems my car suffered as part of their training course for technicians.

Bernie,

My problem was not "caused" by using the voice recognition system, that was just one in a set of malfunctions accompanying the audio going out. In fact, I don't recall an instance where using that feature caused the malfunctions. It would happen randomly-and work again randomly.

I believe I was one of the first owners to have the problem, and to that end, many fixes were attempted before Hyundai seemed to get a handle on what was required to fix it. The head unit AND the amp must be changed, and I think the replacement amp is different than the original equipment. I had this done in early January and have had zero problems since.

Bernie,
My problem was not entirely related to the voice activation, although on a couple of occasions I noted a relationship. The problem was indeed corrected when they finally replaced the amp. unit. We went through a software update and a head unit replacement before replacing the amp and those fixes did not correct the problem. I have been trouble free for several weeks now since the amp replacement.

Good luck, it is a wonderful system when it is all working properly.

I had the same no sound from speakers issue intermittently. The dealer changed out the Amp and now no problems.

I've got issues with my amp unit as well, it intermittently turns off when I am listening to music - reengaging only about 10-30 seconds later. The dealership confirmed it was an overheating issue, and they are ordering a new amp.

Unfortunately, the amp is on backorder until mid-august, which is unacceptable for me. They'll probably be swapping the amp from one of the dealership demo units into mine until it comes in so I won't experience the issue anymore. It's been in the shop for 4 days tomorrow, I'll keep you guys updated.

I have the same issue, but I don't think swapping amps will help. I would think it's just the location of the amp that doesn't allow enough breathing room for the amp to keep cool.....

Response: No sound out of speakers

Same doggone thing....Vehicle has about 3500 miles on it.
Just started it up and the output of the electronics was on total mute....
So I did the most logical thing- I drove 12 miles to my servicing dealer, HUB Hyundai and asked the Wizard of Genesis, Service Manager Gordon Stewart to lay hands on my car.
I've been in tech-support before and know that whenever one has tech problems, having the offending piece of hardware approach the Altar of Repair will often JOLT the problem into self-fix.
This time, Gordon just sat in the car. I started the vehicle and, Yes INDEED, sound emanated and all was normal.
However, the same thing happened again yesterday. I turned the car off for a 30 seconds and restarted, clearing up the problem.
ATTENTION HYUNDAI TECH-
The is a niggling but highly vexing problem needing a software update fix....NOW! It is ammunition for your competitors that you not need supply.

AND, by the way, WHEN will the map updates be available?
Thanks to all on this board. Y'all are a huge help to all of us!

Grtday,

I don't know if you read the entire thread, but this problem is intermittent and it may take you several wasted trips to the dealership before they actually witness the problem. If you insist on the service guy seeing it first hand, when it happens, drive to the dealership, but don't turn off the car when you go get him.

MAKE the service manager contact Hyundai-I'm quite certain they will let him know real fast what to do. It is a known issue with a known fix-the faster they get to ordering what you need, the faster you get to drive with no problems.

Hello? Is this string still alive? I've got 900 kms on my 4.6 Tech, and 'lo and behold, I lost audio. It came back after I re-started a couple of times. Did anyone get a good fix on the diagnosis & fix for this problem?

No fix for this problem yet. As it happens, I telephoned Hyundai in California today, about another problem, AND THIS PROBLEM. They won't come out and say it, but reading between the lines, they have no fix yet. In 14,000 miles, I've had the problem show up about five times. They want me to leave the car at the dealer (with a Genesis loaner for me), however the problem happens so seldom, I know darn well the problem will not show up when sitting at the dealer. Next time it happens, I will try to drive direct to the dealer, leave the car running, and have the Genesis Technician plug in to see if he can figure out what is happening. (If you shut down for a few minutes, the audio does come back, but I want to leave it running so he can test while the problem shows up).

(the other problem has to do with the door "button" not unlocking [or locking] the door when the car has been sitting with the door facing the hot Florida sun, and the whole inside of the door getting overheated - Once door cools off, button works fine). (Again, they have no fix for this either but want the Technician to run tests when this happens, however getting it to happen at the dealer is not easy).

It happens to me tonight. I just drove 30 mins in the rain and then park outside for 3 -4 hours. When I get back to the car, there are no sounds anywhere. After I stopped the car for another 1.5 hours, sound came back. I just had my DIS knob replaced two weeks ago, really don't want anymore electronics problem...

Your mistake was when you got to the dealer, you shut the ignition off. The next time it happens, and you go to the dealer, DO NOT SHUT THE IGNITION/ENGINE OFF. Let them test with the car running. If you shut it off, go and talk with the Service Writer, by the time you get written up, and the Tech comes out to check it out, when you restart the engine, it will then be working.

To anyone that gets this problem, drive directly to the dealer, keep engine running, and have them do their tests. (Not always easy to do as in my case, my selling dealer who has a great Genesis Tech is 25 miles from me [closest dealer is 20 miles from me] and I can't always just drop what I'm doing to drive that 25 miles to get it checked). If someone can just get to their dealer and get it checked while engine still running, you can inform the rest of us what the technician found. Does no good to get it checked while everything is working.

One more time..........

I think some of you are not reading the entire thread. If you had, you would see that some of us who had this same issue have had certain items replaced and haven't had this problem anymore. Check out page 3 of this thread.

There IS a fix.

Hyundai knows about it.

If your particular dealership hasn't seen this before, make them call Hyundai.

While it made me feel better that the service guy finally witnessed what I been talking about-it is not neccessary since this is now a well known issue.

After having the head unit and amp replaced in my car, I haven't had this problem anymore.

Hello all,
Brand new genesis owner here (32 hours) V8 with tech package. Yesterday after setting up the bluetooth and garage door opener I left the house and I had no sound, no radio, no CD, nothing from the phone or navi. After a trip to the mall started the car and sound is working fine. I left for work this morning, sound still working fine, after work stopped at a store came back out and no sound. Does anybody have any ideas?

After a quick analysis my dealer decided to change the amplifier in my 3.8 tech

I just experienced the no-sound problem for the first time in my Tech Pkg. V8. I had to leave the car turned off for some time before regaining the audio. A simple stop and start didn't work. Frustrating but I'll see if it happens again.

This WILL happen again. (Trust me)

In my case, this has happened only five times in the last 6000 miles. Never happened in the first 8000 miles.

Hyundai knows about it. They just don't want to admit that they know about it.

The next time it happens to me, assuming I can drive the 25 miles to my dealer, (no doctor appointments, groceries, meet wife somewhere), I will go there, leave the car running and have the Genesis Tech come out and do his tests. This is one of two problems I have that MUST BE FIXED.

Is anyone concerned about the Lexicon/ and Nav only being warrantied for 3 years 36K miles?

All the electrical gremlins I hear about are making me consider the extended Hyundai advantage warranty.

Bob

Really? I didn't realize Lexicon/Nav only warrantied for 3 yrs 36K, thought it was longer... These random electrical problems really concerns me, I don't want to shell out 4k to fix it after the warranty expires. May be I should trade in for something else... my faith in Genesis begins to shake..

My car is barely two weeks old and I noticed there was no sound coming out of the speakers on my rear left door. And barely no sound on my right rear door. Took it to the dealer and they ordered new speakers for replacement.

Are you sure you had the "Balance" and "Fade" set in your DIS Screen? I forget what screen the settings are in, but you (or your dealer) should have double checked that they were set.

I once checked my rear and side speakers by setting the balance and fade so that only the rear would work, or only one side or the other would work.
