first post here.
i was at the Vancity auto show this weekend. spent some time in the G70 and speaking to the rep there. she was much more helpful than the emails i'd previously received from the various "genesis experience managers". my focus is the 6MT model, which i'm stuck with the 2.0T i guess. the auto show car was a mallorca blue (bright blue) 3.3T Sport AWD model with grey stitching. i'd choose either the mallorca blue or adriatic blue (darker) with red stitching.
the car was very nicely put together, a bit tight in the back seat - especially foot room under the front seats. trunk seemed a bit tight too, but other than that the materials and touch surfaces were all impressive. sharp looking 4-pot/2-pot F/R brake package in red. i'm used to the big brake package from my
Infiniti G37S Sedan (6MT) so it is a must at this point. most german models have sliding calipers in the rear - if not the front too.
i was told the 6MT model would be ~$45.5k CAD. official pricing will be announced this week according to the rep i spoke to. very interested to see what Genesis can do to sweeten the deal further, either with financing or cash incentives.
my primary concerns (other than not having driven a unit or seen actual production vehicles) are with the brand and the model, as well as dropping down to 252hp turbo-4cyl from my 330hp 3.7l V6.
Genesis is a new(ish) venture from a traditionally lower-tier maker. i still remember my dad's 1986 Hyundai Pony. not a fond memory. Hyundai has come a long long way in recent years and now make great vehicles so the stigma will fade soon enough. but has it yet? of course Lexus had to blaze a trail too when they launched but Toyota had a higher regard in most people's minds at that time IMO.
then there's the G70 model itself being brand new. i've always been skeptical about the first model year of any car regardless of make. the
Stinger is close, but it is also new so not much for history there. has Hyundai/Genesis worked out any kinks? hard to tell until reports start to roll in. and when does Hyundai typically do mid-cycle refresh? after ~3 years similar to most manufacturers?
i've never owned a turbo vehicle, so i will certainly need to test out the grunt from the 2.0T compared against my G37S V6. if the turbo can provide much more lower-end power for use around town that may offset the loss of top-end hp that i'd certainly be losing.
i did place a pre-order just in case, but will take my time with the G70 decision and testing the M235/240 6MT (used), the A4 6MT, as well as a few others. i have time since 6MT units will not arrive until later in the summer. my beloved G37S has been rock solid, and still is, so it also weighs heavily as a perfectly fine car to keep. still under 100k kms, but at 8-9 model years old, i'm hedging my bets for increased maintenance costs.
