That’s an excellent question, that I don’t have a good answer for. I rent cars 6-10x/year so I’m reasonably familiar with the standard Bluetooth integration. The one time I had a CarPlay enabled Malibu back in January, I didn’t really have time to play with it.
But my assumption is that CarPlay will continue to have new features/capabilities rolled out, while the car’s OS will be static. I may only own this car for a few years, or I might hang onto it for a decade. That would enter into the equation as well.
I would assume that Apple and Google would create better software than Hyundai (or whoever they subcontract to)
The ironic thing is that I’m thinking about this relative to my current vehicle that went on sale a few months after the debut of the iPod, when “hooking electronic stuff into you car” wasn’t really a thing.
I wouldn’t count on upgrades to CarPlay. I don’t recall anything new added since it was introduced, whereas you you can do most things with Apple Eyes Free and that gets upgraded as Siri with many of the new iOS releases.
