  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tips on getting a "new" Genesis

That’s an excellent question, that I don’t have a good answer for. I rent cars 6-10x/year so I’m reasonably familiar with the standard Bluetooth integration. The one time I had a CarPlay enabled Malibu back in January, I didn’t really have time to play with it.

But my assumption is that CarPlay will continue to have new features/capabilities rolled out, while the car’s OS will be static. I may only own this car for a few years, or I might hang onto it for a decade. That would enter into the equation as well.

I would assume that Apple and Google would create better software than Hyundai (or whoever they subcontract to)

The ironic thing is that I’m thinking about this relative to my current vehicle that went on sale a few months after the debut of the iPod, when “hooking electronic stuff into you car” wasn’t really a thing.

I wouldn’t count on upgrades to CarPlay. I don’t recall anything new added since it was introduced, whereas you you can do most things with Apple Eyes Free and that gets upgraded as Siri with many of the new iOS releases.

Can't comment on how CarPlay works. But with Android Auto, while the structure has stayed the same, functionality has improved. Eg. I can now use Waze. Perhaps apps like Here WeGo with offline maps may get added. Other apps like Torque may get added (I believe there is a plugin on XDA already). But most importantly, Google Assistant will keep getting better and that integration could open up possibilities that we aren't even thinking about right now. I generally keep my cars for a decade. So, that's going to play favorably towards getting CP/AA. If you get a new car every 3 to 4 years, it may well be the other way around.

So I was at my dealer today and they had a 2015 tech package CPO Pamplona one. I think it's only got about 22k miles on it and they're asking around $28k for it. I'm not sure how much I love the red, though. I think I prefer Parisian Gray or Montecito Blue (someone told me those are the fastest colors). But what's a decent price to pay for a sub-30k mile 2015 Genesis? $25,000? Less? Should I just tell them to give it to me for $28k if they include a 100k mile extended warranty?

I think $28k walkout price with 100k mile warranty would be a pretty decent price. But see if they can do a 120k miles warranty instead of the 100k miles. I paid $2375 for a 10/120/0 warranty on a 2016 Genesis with Tech package and 45k miles. Good luck.

Good suggestion. I would think that the difference between a 100k warranty and a 120k warranty wouldn't be that much. Although I wonder if I'd keep the car that long. I suppose it's a selling point for private sales...

How did your buying experience go?

I'm looking at a 2016 Genesis 3.8 AWD Ultimate with 25k miles and the price just dropped to $29,995. I'm thinking this is still a bit high.

I drove it and its in great condition, other than the rear bumper having some scuffs.

Any thoughts on price?

I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I WANT a tech package in one of several colors that I like. My local dealer just has the Pamploma Red one. Not quite ready to settle, yet. I'm hoping the 2016 lease returns start coming out...

Jim Ellis in Atlanta has a ton (well, like two dozen) Ultimates for sale on their website. They're mostly 2015's and RWDs, but you should still get some pricing ideas. They have a 2015 with about the same number of miles for $27,700.

I'd offer 28 and hope to get it for 28.5 or so. Even 29 would not be too bad. See how much tread is on the tires too, they .should be decent yet and goo for another 10,000 miles/

My basis is my 2015. I traded it with 39,000 miles and the dealer sold it for 27. This is a model year newer and less miles so it should sell for more.

I would suggest trying to bring them down a bit more. I bought my 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate in excellent condition with just 17k miles 3 weeks ago for $27k out the door.

So it was closer to $25k before taxes, etc? Did you opt for an extended warranty?

Yes, I got the CNA Preferred plus or whatever their comprehensive warranty is for 9 years/150k miles for $1500. And yes price was $25k before taxes and other fees!

I was around $30K OTD with no CPO for a 2016 with 16K miles. Looks brand new...

Looks sharp. I like the color. Not many miles so it should be good for you.

Is that Parisian Grey? Tech or Ultimate?

And that's something else I'm wondering about. 99% probability I'll be getting it from a Hyundai dealer (which means CPO) but if I get a non-CPO with an extended warranty, what's the diff?

That is indeed Parisian Gray, the best color ;)

I like Parisian Grey and Montecito Blue (I guess one can be generically described as a bluish-grey and the other is a greyish-blue). But I'm having a hard time finding a tech package one...

Parisian Grays are generally pretty rare in any package... I had to wait a while to find mine in Ultimate. Montecito Blue is also pretty rare from what I've seen. Most of the Genny's I see around here are black or empire state gray

Jim Ellis in Atlanta (250 miles away) seems to have plenty of Ultimates in all colors. But no tech packages.

Atlanta is a good 500 miles from me so I didn't search around that area. I mostly stuck with Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio but there are plenty of Tech packages around these areas when I was looking to get mine. If distance isn't an issue for you, check out Ohio and Illinois dealers.
