  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hope this isn't redundant, but this blog is very good. It's constantly updated and real world. They don't give universal praise like a lot of mags. They rip some cars a new one. The blog reviews for the Gen V6 has been VERY positive.

During my first 15 minutes with our 2009 Hyundai Genesis V6, I decided it was just a rear-drive evolution of our long-term Hyundai Azera. Melt-in-your-mouth ride quality? Check. Light, overboosted steering? Check. Hyperactive throttle response from 3.8-liter V6 at tip-in? Check.

Then, I accelerated up to speed on the freeway and realized I had it all wrong. Our Genesis is about 10 times more refined than the Azera, and like the Genesis Coupe, it gives the impression that Hyundai has turned a corner in vehicle dynamics. The more I drive it, the more I like it.

To start, the six-speed Aisin automatic transmission Hyundai uses on the V6 model is quite good. It upshifts smoothly under heavy throttle and downshifts promptly in passing situations. It all happens so unobtrusively, that I just can't imagine wanting any other engine in this car. Two-hundred-ninety horsepower is plenty. I can't really hear the V6 and I'm fine with that. A loud exhaust note wouldn't make sense in a Genesis sedan.

Great review! Thank you for posting it up!

I have to say I agree w/ 90% of the comments Edmunds has made on their long-term Genesis. The only thing I really remember disagreeing w/ them about in the past was the gauges. I don't think they look too plain/cheap for a luxury car at all. In fact, I appreciate their simplicity/legibility and lack of gratuitous chrome adornment.

I agree on the gauges. They look fine to me..

Dido. I think the complaint was that they were too similar with the gauges in the Sonata. There's too much focus on gauges, clean simple easy to read, thats enough. Like on the LS 400 when it first came out they were hard to see at some angles like 1% of the time. It's a mild inconvenience at worst and the press made it out to be some massive design flaw.

The media is a joke.

They gotta play both sides of the fence. The first LS car was so good when it first came out they had to nit pick. Kinda like this one... the Genesis overall execution is so good (not perfect) but little adjustments going forward will make this car a staple on the roads for years to come and will continue the brand renaissance at Hyundai.

Couldn't agree more. LONG gone are the days of unbiased auto reviews. Like everything else, those with the most money win. These "car of the year" awards are hilarious.... the Camry received one before it barely hit the assembly line. Toyota just dished out a lot of money that year, just like Hyundai did for their North American Car of the Year award. IMO.

2009 Hyundai Genesis: Long Term Blog Edmunds

"That's the new Hyundai, right"

"Yeah, it is."

"How do you like it?"

"I like it a lot."

"Can I have a look?"

And so it went all weekend long: at the super market, at the car wash, and in my own driveway. In retrospect, I think I get this line of questioning more often in this car than any other car in our fleet. Sure, we get thumbs-up when we're driving the Nissan GT-R and spontaneous street racing challenges when we drive the Evo(s), but nothing, past or present seems to elicit questions and genuine interest like our 2009 Hyundai Genesis does?

I don't agree with that assessment. One thing some people overlook is that in order to win Car of the Year, it has to be a substantial upgrade from the previous year for that car (not just new sheet metal). So it not inconceivable that Camry could have won, especially since it has been the best selling car on average (give or take a few exception years) for quite awhile (especially when you subtract fleet sales to rental car agencies owned by the automakers).

To win Car of the Year (like best in show at a dog show) doesn't mean it is top dog of all cars on the road (or even all new models), but it is the best in its class by a wide enough margin to win the award.

Keep in mind that the first Car of the Year was the Chevy Vega. Then they started catching fire. I think Car of the Year may be an indicator, but, certainly many have proven to be shit. I personally think the Genesis is deserving, but, what do I know.

Oh come on - you should know how the real world works by now. You're living in a dream world if you've never seen an auto publication that had a glowing review of a vehicle, then 4 pages over, a full page ad from said manufacturer. It happens ALL the time, not just with vehicles. More than one publication has been called out over the years for it -- not a wacky conspiracy theory, it's a fact of life - money talks.

I'm not saying the "awards" aren't a nice gesture... and they do occasionally represent a vehicle worthy of "car of the year" -- but should be taken with a grain of salt.

Again -- just my opinion. If one wants to purchase a vehicle because it was
featured on the cover of a magazine, I can see worse things to do. :)
