  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Clearly, very few people really know what's going to happen and they're apparently keeping their lips pretty tightly sealed. And I think those few are probably not at dealerships but at corporate headquarters.
When talking to anyone in the auto business, they may or may not tell you what they actually know. Or they may not know. Hard to say.

Typically, most sales people in any industry don't like to talk about future products, because they have bills to pay right now and want you to buy something today, not a couple of months from now. I am not saying that is case here, but one has to understand it is a possibility.

The Mazda obviously has less power but also weighs about a half-ton less. The 3.3 would handle that weight better and the extra power really seems like it would be needed for the car to have any sort of zip.
Are you sure? Half a ton is 1000 lbs.

The 3.3 G80 is sweet, but honestly is is big an heavy, not as nimble as I want. I threw it into some turns and while it held it was not as flat as I would like and I am going back and forth on what to do. I have 3 months, but one thing I did notice is they clearly copied Audi to a fault, the seats in te Sport to me were a bit firm, reminded me of my A6, while there are moderately comfortable, I would never take an all day trip in it.

I'm a sales guy myself, and I like to keep myself always fully updated on a lot of new product, most of the sales guys and managers don't even know anything about future product, I see it every day at my dealer. I've called a local dealer twice here in SoCal, I had one of the guys talk to his inventory manager and they think they should start coming in around July-August, but they don't have access to checking in incoming inventory like I do on my vehicles.

I was at a dealership today (my brother is considering a G80) that is one of the original 100 designated Genesis-only dealerships. They have plans to refurbrish and re-purpose their current (and very new) Subaru facility to accommodate Genesis in proximity to their Hyundai dealership that now also sells Genesis.

I asked about the G70 availability. The person we spoke to said that the corporate rep was just there yesterday and didn't have any news to share and the general manager doesn't know anything either. Nothing is on their allocation lists. He said that it's always possible that things will be different from what has happened in the past, but he saw nothing to indicate that cars could be available for sale prior to September, and possibly later than that. His estimate was based on the usual flow of events, where they are made available of how many units they have been allocated and formalize their order prior to the cars actually making their way to the lots.

My brother had mixed feelings about the G80. He drove the 3.8 and if he gets a G80, I think he's likely to go with the 3.3. The 3.8 really didn't feel that responsive. They didn't have a 3.3 available to drive. He thought that the 3.8 would compare favorably to his 2016 twin-turbo, 250 HP Mazda CX-9 Signature in performance but his Mazda actually feels quicker. It takes a lot to get all that G80 heft moving and 311 HP doesn't really seem to do it all that well. The Mazda obviously has less power but also weighs about a half-ton less. The 3.3 would handle that weight better and the extra power really seems like it would be needed for the car to have any sort of zip.

The new top-spec family sedans from honda/toyota would definitely walk the 3.8 g80 from a stoplight as it suffers from the 4500 lbs weight. Would highly suggest the 3.3t for the g80. My wife just got the 2018 accord 1.5t and I'm surprised by how well it rides given it only weighs 3100 lbs. I am playing along with the idea of getting a 2.0t sport accord as my next car as the lightweight chassis on the new accord does make it funner to drive than my genesis without sacrificing ride comfort (although sound deadening is not as good)

I have been toying with an Accord as well, except the 2.0T Touring models are very rare. My lease is up in 3 months and was hoping for G70, and wish I could wait a year as after seeing the new 19 RDX the new TLX due next summer should be a killer sedan, especially if they release the Type-S at initial launch with the V6T.

Acura used to have nice cars pre financial crisis days... I wouldn't hold my breath for the TLX coming out with a great package in the near future. I think the current accords would remain superior but we shall see!

Apparently per eye witness reports on reddit, press cars are driving around in CA with michigan plates. Bad news guys, but seems like the ugly 5 spoke wheels will remain on the US g70 sport 3.3T

If you look at the new RDX as an indication and their statements that they are working on a V6 Turbo and the Type-S will return I think they will have a great product in the next TLX.

Hopefully the new TLX improves (and I agree the RDX seems promising) because the current car was one of the biggest disappointments for me. Really felt like driving a Buick. Soft suspension and no power. Which is too bad as the 2018's finally look decent.

It would be nice to have an equivalent competitor to the G70 at a similar price range from the Japanese.

^ what about the Q50? Or IS350? I suppose “equivalent” is subjective, but they are the same class of car anyhow. Q50’s can be had at a healthy discount which would bring that at or under G70 pricing.

Genesis in undercutting because it's a new brand looking to establish itself. Lexus is already there; they won't be matching the pricing anytime soon.

Last time I was at my Infiniti dealership, it was clear that they were discounting aggressively on the Q50. Probably less so on the Q50 RS 400, but even there, they were willing to negotiate. I didn't get down to brass tacks because I'm not ready to buy anything yet. But clearly, discounts are on the table. Although, on paper, I think the G70 has a clear edge, that will depend on pricing. A Q50 RS 400 with a nice set of Michelin Pilots to replace the run-flat Dunlops would certainly be a car I could live with quite happily if I feel that Genesis is getting too greedy. And there are others, as well. I'd love to find myself in the new Genesis but that will be price dependent. It isn't a matter of what I can afford so much as what I'm willing to spend on a first run of a new model from an as-yet not fully established brand.

^ our local dealers, along with OEM incentives, are knocking upwards of $10k off new in stock Q50’s. this includes the RS400 models. I’ve even seen some year-old stock with more discounts than that. Infiniti didn’t do a great job planning the Q50. It launched in 2014 but was just a new body on old drivetrain. 2016 brought new engines but same old 7AT slush box. By now it is well into its 5th model year so i’d guess a new body will be coming in the next year or two based on past cycles. Add up all of these factors, and more, and you have a car that never really established itself as a leader in the segment - it’s an also-ran at best.

I’m a fan of the Infiniti brand, and currently own a G37S, but their new lineup lost my interest after 2013 when they also went through a model name change.

Well maybe there is hope on the horizon...
2019 Genesis G70: Designed To Perform

I'm a bit concerned about this though:
"a mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD), standard on 3.3T RWD and optional on 2.0T RWD."

Are they implying that the LSD will be a standalone upgrade cost on the 2.0T sport? They do describe it in detail:
"As an increasingly rare treat these days, a 6-speed manual transmission is available as an option on the 2.0L T 4-cylinder engines equipped with RWD. Manual transmission equipped G70s are offered in a comprehensive performance package that includes a more powerful engine with unique sport exhaust, high-performance Brembo brakes with enhanced performance pads and additional weight reduction measures."

There is no mention of the LSD there. I would be annoyed if I had to pay for the LSD on the 2.0T sport.

That aside, the best news of all is... G70 will launch in the United States in summer 2018. (y)

The LSD is standard on the 6MT RWD in Canada, so either that statement is a typo or this is a trim difference between markets. Since it is an official Genesis release, i doubt a typo. This would be unfortunate news, but what it may mean is that the G70 will be more value-oriented for the US and more stand-alone options are available. This would be common to many other makes and models from what i’ve noticed. The CAD market is smaller so we get fewer trims and options, but more standard features to offset the usually higher prices.

You make a good point about the US market possibly providing more options. I would pay for the lsd option if it means I can pay for ventilated seats on the 2.0T sport.

Doh! I hope you’re right about the seats for your sake. But this has irked me about the seats since i found out the 2.0T 6MT couldn’t get vented seats, which were almost a pre-requisite for my next vehicle. The vented seats are optional in Korea on some trims so it is possible.
