  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

How did you arrive at that date?

Manufacturers / developers typically announced the earliest time slot they can get away with. If it was any sooner they'd say "early summer".

The LSD is standard on the 6MT RWD in Canada, so either that statement is a typo or this is a trim difference between markets. Since it is an official Genesis release, i doubt a typo. This would be unfortunate news, but what it may mean is that the G70 will be more value-oriented for the US and more stand-alone options are available. This would be common to many other makes and models from what i’ve noticed. The CAD market is smaller so we get fewer trims and options, but more standard features to offset the usually higher prices.
If LSD comes with the MT, and the MT is optional (instead of AT), then I don't see a problem or a typo.

The latest we've heard from our rep is late July.

Looks like the 4 banger manual gets a few more HP that the auto...kinda cool...

But! That four-cylinder engine will pack 255 HP, which is three HP more than the four-cylinder offered with the eight-speed auto. Come forth, bragging rights. Plus, with the manual, you can also get rear-wheel drive, a unique sport exhaust and Brembo brakes. And on both engines, the G70 also comes with a mechanical LSD and launch control.

You know, it’s almost like someone at Genesis knew that us enthusiast nutjobs would be most interested in the manual option, so they gave it some enthusiast features. That’s neat.

I sense some sarcasm going on ;)

If they are saying summer (again)...then it must be after that...LOL.
I sense you want to stir things up. You are completely wrong. Merely trying to ascertain how he arrived at that date.

The press release states that the lsd is optional in the 2.0T rwd though so they are specifically referring to the sport model which is MT only. Hopefully it is a typo and the lsd is standard on it.

The dealer I spoke to said that there was typically a 4-week delay (as I recall) between when the cars showed up in their system and when they were actually on the lot. So, if July is the "in-the-system" date, then late August or early September would seem like a realistic on-the-lot date. If July was the on-the-lot date, then the cars should be in the system now, or in the very near future. That's a lot better than some of the time frames that have been floated. But if experience tells us anything, it's that these dates can change as things unfold. The first US press release is also encouraging. Apparently there will be four and I presume they'll all come before the car does. Once the car is out, I would think that coverage would switch from press releases to reviews. So, tracking the the press releases should give us some sense of how close we're getting. As we get closer, there may be "press events" that precede general availability, sort of like the Mont Tremblant event up in Canada.

Actually...just got off the phone with my dealer guy. What you say is true...but normally that 4-week time starts when the cars are on the boat.

All the initial allocations are at port. So they said that it will be a 2-week delay. Apparently they are dropping everything to meet that 2-week timeframe.

I am getting a yummy feeling in my but that it might be mid-August ? Sure hope so !!

That would be good!

I think at least one of the dealers I've spoken to will I've me a heads-up when they appear in his system. Very exciting if they're as good as they seem to be (something the Canadian owners seem to be confirming) and if prices are not outlandish for a fully-equipped car.

You are giving way too much credit to Genesis Motors marketing people, who have already proven that they are incompetent.

That article is based on the press release:
2019 Genesis G70: Designed To Perform

From that:
"a mechanical limited-slip differential (LSD), standard on 3.3T RWD and optional on 2.0T RW"

If I'm reading the press release wrong, please let me know.

In the past, US-spec cars haven't necessarily been equipped the same as the Canadian equivalents (to wit, the Stinger). So one would hope that the US press releases would be accurate in their descriptions of US-spec cars, even if at odds with wat has been seen in Canada or elsewhere. But that's not an absolute certainty by any means. Mistakes do get made and things do change.

From the other article: "And on both engines, the G70 also comes with a mechanical LSD and launch control." Indicating that both engines get LSD and launch control.
It is certainly possible that the author misquoted or misunderstood the press release.

For my sake, I hope so!
