  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Anybody have any idea what that means in terms of the state of the cars themselves? Sitting in ports for months? Genesis almost certainly did not have "port boys" running around the lots making sure all the cars have been run or at least rolled to prevent tire flat spots.... I'm not sure exacty as to the effects of sitting for extended time or even how long it takes for any effects to take place. Just a little disconcerting to me... anybody with any ideas or expertise or opinions as to the state that the cars will be in?

The tires are at a high pressure to prevent flat spotting. There is also a lot of protective covering on most cars. I'd not want the car run for short periods of time as that would be worse than sitting idle.

It is common for many people to store their cars for long periods without the protection the factory puts on them. I don't see it being a problem, cars are pretty inert. I don't know what they do about batteries though.

I don't want to buy a brand new car that for any reason has been seating in a port lot for more than a month.
When I lease or byy a brand new car one of the first things I do is checking the VIN number with the manufacturing date. If yhe car is more than two months old I won't buy it.

Well...it's 10am EST now. Nothing released. If they were going to do it...I'd imagine it would be done already. I know they are in CA...but whatever.

What a bunch of freaking assholes. I'm so pissed off. Pricks.

Your choice, but it is not a loaf of bread. Bought mine late October with mid July date. It was perfect, still is. Never l

I guess I would be more inclined to bemoan the challenges (and ineptitude?) that seem to be affecting the rollout. They are scrambling to pull their sh*t together but have yet to actually do so...

Yet I would love to play around with the Configurator--and somebody would just need to "push a button" to make that available??

Got fed up with it.... sent Genesis USA a message on Facebook. Will post the reply (if any) that I get when (if) I get it....

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Better yet...everyone should send an email to Kevin Smith kdsmith@gma.com

He is the Senior Group Manager of PR and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Who knows what depth of knowledge he has...but only email I got.

They released the trim specs at 4 PM Pacific time previously, so I would say expect press releases later in the day. But I'm not arguing that there's a chance they'll still release pricing today because I highly doubt it.

Let's not just get angry and insult Genesis. It's not like they're trying not to sell us cars. I'm sure they're trying their best, and managing dealership laws, what's best for their future, and the G70 release is difficult.

Go ahead and email Genesis of your discontent, because knowing the customer needs is important. But just remember to be respectful.

Um...no...they are actually doing everything to NOT sell us cars !!! Literally. Sure someone somewhere is trying something...but at the end of the day it is Genesis USA with their retarded propositions and stubbornness that has caused this.

They could have done countless things to keep us interested...and others to learn about it. Nobody knows about the freaking G70. There are no ads...TV or otherwise. Again...idiots.

This is the email I sent to several key senior managers at Genesis earlier today. No response as of yet.

"I am the proud owner of my second Genesis (2015 3.8 Ultimate & 2018 G80 Sport). I have grown more and more alarmed daily over the lack of information and direction from Genesis concerning the dealer network and the subsequent roll-out of the long overdue G70 and the 2019 G80 & G90. Additionally, I am very concerned that I don't know what the status of an available "Genesis", not Hyundai, dealership will be in my area.

Here are recent comments from the GM of my local dealer. Not very promising

"As for standalone Genesis brand, this direction has stalled due to the state legislature. To be specific, Genesis/Hyundai has stalled in making or requesting dealers across the state and most states to create a stand-alone building for just Genesis product. As for the product, dealers are having a tough time acquiring Genesis product from the factory. It looks to me as if the factory has stalled shipment of vehicles until these relationship issues are resolved. As for the G70, it was supposed to debut this fall but now I'm being told by our factory rep that it more than likely won't debut till the first of the year. I hope this helps with your questions and please let's keep the dialogue open to ensure your ware when the product reopens."

IMO, if Genesis is to make an impact in the US market this confusion, uncertainty, and frankly questionable management decisions, IMO, has to be rectified rapidly.

I want to continue to enjoy my experience with what I believe is an exceptional brand. However, the last 9 months or so have brought that into question.

Regards,

Larry

HONESTLY: what Genesis needs right now is to apply to the US government or whoever deals with this stuff to apply to sell cars direct to consumer right now. They clearly are having issues getting a dealer network setup and are (right now) a low enough volume brand to be able to handle doing this. They could simply sell them online, handle any servicing and warranty claims at existing Hyundai dealers, and focus everything on getting standalone dealers setup.

This will keep the consumer happy, the standalone dealer network issue worked out, and will allow Genesis to begin moving units!!!

This would require either persuading the states to change their laws or congress enacting a federal law that overrode all of the separate state laws. Even if the auto dealer lobby weren't as strong as it is (and believe me, it's pretty darn strong), this would have no chance of succeeding. I agree that a direct-to-consumer model would be superior but we're stuck with what we have and I don't see any way around it in the foreseeable future.

All you have to do is look at Tesla. Thier attempt to sell direct to consumers was shot down.

That would be awesome, saving me $999 in dealer fees here in South Florida.

I don't mean permanent.... I mean just for one year or even 6 months until they get the dealership issue figured out. This way they could still sell their units that are sitting idle in ports right now.

But I thought Tesla does sell direct to consumer? They don't have dealerships... they have boutique stores setup in fancy malls to sell to consumers?

Virginia does.

Tesla is currently fighting for the right to sell its cars directly in 8 states
"In the meantime, the situation is not as difficult as other states like Connecticut or Michigan since the company can still operate “galleries” and service centers, it can just not complete sales of vehicles."

I still can't imagine anyone changing the existing laws or the dealers' lobbyists not protesting vehemently. And Tesla was given special consideration because its cars are electric and approving their direct-sales model was part of an effort to stimulate adoption of electrics to reduce pollution. Their initial volume was also so small that nobody really saw them as a threat back when their sales model got approval. I like your idea but I just don't think there's the slightest chance of it ever being implemented.

Not going to happen.
It would probably take them a year or more to get the permission in some states, if at all. Then you have dealer lawsuits to contend with.

Tesla does it in some states, but not all. At least 6 do not allow it.

Oh I agree, there's absolutely no way that a giant brand like Hyundai (I know it's Genesis) will ever be approved to sell direct to consumer on the basis of low volume

And OK, then how do they sell cars in those states then? You can't? I never knew that......
