  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Oh... I totally didn't know that they'd only be serviced through Genesis dealerships. That could be a huge factor for me since the closest one currently is an hour away from me. And with no word yet on which dealers will be added to see if there'll be one closer, it's definitely making me lean away from getting one now.
Yeah they will valet the car (I think I remember reading) anywhere within an hour drive for the first three years..... even after that it's only (hopefully) three or four times a year depending on your driving habits. Make a trip out of it and stop and get some good food or beer while you're driving to the dealer

I feel bad for you guys in the US, I hope they get the dealer thing figured out quickly. In Canada they don't actually have dealers, we deal with a distributor who brings the car to you ... other than a few shopping center pop-ups, and displays in airports, there's limited places to actually go see the cars. I know that, for now, when they take my car for service they're going to bring it to a Hyundai dealer - and honestly I really don't care. Had to be one of the easiest car buying purchases I've ever done ... they brought the car to me for a test-drive, I built and configured the car online, and put down a deposit on my credit card. I know you have different laws in the US due to the dealer lobby, but I'm surprised they couldn't piggyback on the Hyundai dealers but keep it opaque to the end customer ...
Do you think this is why Canada gets a better value? Factory direct!

All of this information is quite disconcerting. I wonder if my state (MS) is one that will have difficulty. I've emailed the dealership here that sells Genesis vehicles, and I'll see what they say. Between this rollout and the Stinger missing options, I feel like my two vehicles I'm interested in are just screwing me over.

Thanks for the good information. If you take this information and add it to all the stories and trouble that Tesla has been fighting with dealerships across the US States, it's really no surprise. The dealers and States seem to have an odd grip here in the US. Ultimately, "IF" this new information is true....I fear Genesis is going to have a tough road ahead. And it certainly means the G70 is months away.

As others have said, it is strange that Genesis didn't solve this dealer network before marketing the car. All they had to do was call or hire the business guys from the Japanese companies that managed to create luxary brands.

Seems my Honda Accord is even closer to a reality. :)

Do you have some reason to believe this information is untrue? I assure you that I am telling the truth as best as I can recall the conversation and I personally have no known reason to doubt the information provided by the Genesis USA Rep.

Hey, wasn't implying anything. I trust the rep told you what he knew and you posted it. I was really just using the "if" because there are a lot of unknowns and moving parts that we the consumers might not be aware of.

No problem. Just clarifying things.

Living in California and understanding the bureaucracy is pretty heavy here I won’t be holding my breath. To several others points I find it very interesting that the business plan for rolling out the Genesis brand appears to of been implemented in the US after the rest of the world received the G70. Hyundai and Genesis have their office in So Cal yet they are still trying to gain acceptance for the CA dealer network. I feel like Geneses could care less but I am going back to looking at other cars. My 2013 Genesis Coupe was my daily driver and I owned a Corvette since 2001. I loved the Corvette and sold it when I purchased my new home. On the way home tonight I saw 3 new corvettes, it must be a sign.

I'm not a Business Specialist or a Market Guru by any means but you don't have to be a College graduate to see that Genesis USA is in BIG problems. Current car sales are 1/3 of what they used to be one year ago and on top of this they are unable to put their new car on the market for months? That for sure is horrible for any company nowadays.

I am also disappointed in the way Genesis is going. I sold a Mercedes S550 and bought G90 Ultimate after thoroughly researching the car. I love the car and it has not disappointed me but my fear is that it is going the VW Phaeton route. Appears to be a mass F Up in their marketing and promotion group

As previously noted, Hyundai stopped shipping 2018MY G80's and G90's more than 3 months ago as they want the inventory of 2018's pretty bare when the 2019MY, including the G70, starts hitting dealer lots of the dealerships have gotten a Genesis franchise.

2) I find it alarming how he said "When the G70 does come out there will be more standalone Genesis Retailers..." --- does this mean they are going to wait until standalone dealers are established before releasing this thing? That's HORRIBLE news if that's the case...

No - Hyundai dealerships which have gotten a Genesis franchise will be able to sell the G70 (and 2019MY G80 and G90) at their present locations while they start the build-out of their separate Genesis store.

I actually talked to a Hyundai dealer in my area that's also qualified to sell Genesis, and according to them, only Genesis-only dealerships will be given G70s to sell. I knew they were buying out Hyundai dealership licenses to sell Genesis, but I didn't think they'd try to accomplish that before selling the G70. Genesis dealerships haven't even started construction in my city so that could be a lengthy delay...

The G70 and other 2019 models will be sold at Hyundai dealerships that get a Genesis franchise until the finish the build-out of their Genesis store.

Genesis stated that they won't finish w/ the process of dealership selection until sometime in the 1st Q of next year (don't know how much of this has to do w/ state certification), but will start selling the G70 and other 2019 models prior to that process being finished (so wouldn't rule out a Fall rollout quite yet).

To several others points I find it very interesting that the business plan for rolling out the Genesis brand appears to of been implemented in the US after the rest of the world received the G70.

Other markets haven't required the build-out of an entire new dealer network the size that the US market requires.

Of similar sized (or larger) markets, Genesis has still yet to launch in the EU or China.

The launch of Genesis in Australia has also been delayed despite its smaller size and going the direct sales/mall-based boutique route as unlike for Canada, Genesis, itself, is building out the boutiques.

Right now I'm thinking two things about the release:
1) I believe that once the dealership issues get ironed out and whichever Hyundai dealers are going to get Genesis franchises get the OK to sell 2019MY Genesis', Genesis service will vastly improve at those locations. If that dealership is eventually going to be building out a separate entity exclusively for Genesis, it would behoove them to treat their Genesis customers like luxury customers because both dealer and consumer are committed to the brand.

2) Is it POSSIBLE (pure speculation) that the likes of BMW, MB, Audi are "lobbying" against Genesis getting the state's sales regulations passed because they feel threatened or don't want any legitimate competition? If you were to ask BMW, MB, and Audi, they would never publicly admit to it because they are too proud to admit that a Korean vehicle could ever compete with them. But behind the scenes could be a different story... just thinking out loud.

Still haven't heard from Genesis on Facebook.... just sent an inquiry to my local Genesis dealer asking them if they know anything. I fully expect to get an answer similar to what other people have gotten from talking to their dealers, but it can't hurt to open a dialogue and establish a connection... will post if I hear anything.

On point #2...highly doubt it. But if dealers were setup the same way in Germany...then yes...I could see that there 😜

IGNORE IGNORE...
I called them...bullshit Tweet...they need to take it down. They are still fighting for the license to even sell it.

Woah...where is Colonial Genesis. They are advertising they have the G70 !!!! Tennessee ?

Colonial Genesis (@ColonialGenesi1) | Twitter

Actually...I found them...PA...
Colonial Genesis of Downingtown | New Genesis dealership in Downingtown, PA 19335
I wouldn't quite exactly call that advertising that they HAVE it, per say. It's a very fine line though... But that is baiting consumers for sure. Poor ethics if you ask me.

Hey YEH, thanks for the info. Could I ask for your source on these matters? Right now there's a lot of conflicting and ambiguous info because of lack of official communication by Genesis USA, so we need to evaluate info based on which sources would be the most reliable.

Actually, here's a source about most of this subject: Hyundai's July 2018 U.S. Sales: Genesis Sales Slow in Transition

Basically, Hyundai dealerships can sell 2019 models if they commit to the training and separate showrooms, not necessarily separate dealership lots. But this source summarizes the regulatory issues Genesis is going through.

Don't see anything substantially different than what the Genesis USA Rep conveyed to me yesterday.

Good read that sums everything up pretty well. @KusaKusa is correct. The Hyundai dealers that want to continue to sell Genesis vehicles from 2019 on do not necessarily have to build an entirely new building and service department. From the article: "Signing means making a commitment to improved training and service befitting a premium automaker, as well as separating the Hyundai and Genesis brands within showrooms to emphasize their differences. Those that elect to become Genesis franchisees will be allocated only 2019 model year (and later) vehicles."
