  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

I just had a discussion yesterday with a buddy.

Two very important things folks don't even think about (let alone know) regarding electric...

1. The process and factories that build the batteries are worse for the environment than fuel cars.
2. Batteries do go bad. They last a long time...but if you keep your cars this is critical. The cost to replace the batteries down the road is mind blowing. Last I checked...the cost to replace the batteries in a Prius was over $10k !!! I think someone told me that for a Tesla it would be over $30k.
I saw an article years ago that compared the total environmental impact of a Prius and a Hummer. When all things were considered the Hummer had a significant lower impact on the environment than a Prius. One of the biggest things noted was the impact of the mining for the materials to make the batteries.

That’s why I think they won’t be full mainstream until we get a better battery technology than Lithium-ion. We’re already near barriers of its capacity and density. We need to have a new tech that’s higher density, cheaper, can charge faster, can last for a longer charge/recharge cycle, or any/all of the above. The drawback to the battery replacement price is that you’re also paying significantly less maintenance and I believe most of the batteries currently are meant to last 15-20 years or so. Most people don’t even own a car that long, let alone if they do they’ve usually put $5-10k in repairs into it by then at minimum, so it’s mostly invalid. Also, as more batteries are manufactured, the battery pricing would lower significantly over time.

"They" already have it. They are probably selling in very small markets charging absurd amounts of money. It's the same trend with every new invention/innovation. They are not applying it to the general public because the costs would be significantly higher. Think about it.... Every profit business has at least one common goal; money. We'll see it in a few years.

I already know that, there’s been plenty of science awards to theoretical gains over the years. I just meant a standard needs to be adopted in order for electric cars to move forward.

Nothing else to talk about. Genesis sucks.
Yes, yes they do. They probably need to go ahead and release pricing. It's been a while since ANY new information was released. At least if people knew the price they would know if it's something they really want to wait for. At this point, who knows.

I remember at least one article like that. Kinda bombastic but true...my current commute car is a Prius. :-\ This is not an environmentally friendly car. When you consider most electricity comes from coal energy, we're all still mostly fossil powered.

Yeah, I want that to be different...I'm just going to unplug from the grid first. (Some of you might suggest Hydrogen, but the larger moving parts of that argument is usable Hydrogen energy has gone through more 'state' changes, making it an even less efficient source.)

Someday I will have a Mr. Fusion bolted onto the back of my flying car. Until then...vroom vroom!

mang.

I doubt they want to give the competition that information ahead of time. It may benefit some interested people here but can be detrimental in other respects. We just have to wait until corporate is ready and have things in order. Not worth getting POd and upset about something we have no control over. Its not good for digestion.

You really think BMW, Audi, and Mercedes are going to decrease their prices because the G70 price gets released? I doubt it. My guess is that Genesis' is trying to be a value play at the beginning but the goal is to eventually raise prices. No one is trying to lower their prices. And we don't have to wait. That's my point. If they continue to just stay quiet, they're probably going to start losing customers for the G70. I guess we just have differing opinions about that. Don't worry, I'm not having digestion trouble.... Not yet lol.

Since Consumer Report's gave Genesis the #1 car reliability brand, I don't see driver's shying away from the brand. If anything, it's the reverse.

No, they won't lower their price but it still gives them as well as others to work on competitive strategy. It is not just the higher priced but the equal and lower priced competitors..Maybe you were thinking Avalon but could be tempted to a G70?

They have to keep hundreds of dealers happy too, not a dozen people from this forum.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
If the reviews here and elsewhere are even close to the truth, we will be justly rewarded by our patience with something very special. Every BMW I see out there is going to soon be having me drive past them in my G70 and wonder, what was that?

We are the pioneers, the trailblazers of a great new car and what a sweet reward we will have when the day arrives.

Haven't heard of a single dealer that's happy anyway. They're mucking this whole thing up. I do see your points though, I just disagree. I doubt releasing the pricing a month before release would cause that many, if any, problems. Manufacturers do it all the time. Are all of these manufacturers that do so irreparably harming their business? I think not. They do it even further out than that at times. Now if we're looking at a long time, it makes sense, but that means there are bigger problems since they said Summer.

While it may be true, how many customers do you think they will lose? Enough to make a blip? How many members on this site will eventually buy? Remember that many will not like the prices or the choices or colors or whatever when it does come online.
Outside of this site how many are people are waiting?
I would contend that until marketing launches their campaign there is not much pent up demand and the demand on this site is far from representative. I don’t see any need for Genesis to feel pressure to rush anything.

You may be right. They may not lose many. My mentality has always been, make as much money as possible. They're struggling in sales even in Korea so I just figured every little bit would count.

No problem with that. But.maybe less in the short run to make more in the long run.

The G70 launch is frustrating. I wanted to compared against the G80sport before making a purchase. I look forward to driving it when it’s finally arrives, however, I couldn’t be happier with my G80sport. Coming from a 2013 Sonata Limited It seems the rear seat is tighter than the Sonatas. There are no complaints from the back seats except when I the auto drivers seat pushes back when I exit the car.

The back seat is definitely tight - if you regularly transport adults over about 5'10" you might want to look at the G80. I sort of think of it like a coupe with 4 doors. Not overly different from the cars I tested in the class, but admittedly back seat comfort wasn't really a big issue for me - we have a Q3 if we ever need it.

I actually have the 2nd memory position for when I have somebody back there - slightly more forward and higher than normal. Also, the auto seat adjust can be disabled - I've actually done that as I don't find it's particularly useful for me.

But the reviews were based on the G80 and G90, since there aren't any US owners of G70s yet, and certainly not at the time of the CU report. And both the G80 and G90 sales are down. In Korea, all Genesis sales are falling short of projections, including the G70.
