  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Wow...I actually hate that. Anything that forces you to look away sucks. The current MMI...I just glance over...and I just control everything with my hand. I have all the button placements memorized, etc. Having to reach out and touch, etc...is too distracting. I guess this is where things are going. Bummer.

Exactly! Car manufacturers are trying to be "hip" and "trendy" to keep up, but unlike cell phones, they're in an industry where people are actually driving multiple ton vehicles at high rates of speeds! I still like physical knobs and buttons. My Mazda's screen is touch screen but I've never touched it. Not with the center control.

Totally agree! Usability wise, a touch screen only system takes eyes off the road. Need the haptics to be able to not have to take eyes off the important stuff.

Those screens have the haptic response but understand what you are saying. I think it all comes down to the driver and how he/she uses the system. If done at the right times and in the right ways it should not cause a problem.

If you look at the S.Korean brochure...it shows the new 3D display behind the steering wheel and the center console has the identical setup. So the Infotainment has not changed other than software-wise if it did. Hardware is unchanged.
Software alone could be a big deal! History shows car company's rarely retrofit older models with new software because they want you to buy the new model. If it could retrofit to the 2019 model, bonus.

New updated infotainment doesn't require an MMI knob or other hardware to be a Genesis class upgrade (rather than what we have now which is Hyundai class).

Digital displays are almost always configurable. Otherwise, there's really no point. In some, you can switch between round dials that look pretty much like an analog gauge or various types of bar displays. You can also choose what information is displayed on the default screen, have different screens for different driving modes, etc. The good ones are pretty spectacular. In some, for example, you can set the tach to be a bar across the full top edge of the screen that changes color at various RPMs (yellow-line and red-line values). This is really easy to see in your peripheral vision without taking your eyes off of the road. Pretty cool. Similarly, other gauges (like speedometer) can be set to change color or appearance at critical values. Perceiving this sort of change is a lot easier than looking at a needle to see what value it's pointing to. Of course, those features can be defeated if they're distracting for just routine, day-to-day driving.

The cosmetic doo-dads on the one shown from Korea don't do a thing for me and I have some doubts about how well the 3D functionality is likely to work. Hard to isolate visual information so that a different image goes to each eye unless there's a projector set-up of some sort and I'm not sure I want a beam blasting into my eye just to enhance the illusion of depth on a dashboard display.

Not sure when, if ever, the digital display from Korea will show up in US cars. If I had to guess, I'd say that even it we eventually get it, it wouldn't be for a few years. Look how much time has elasped from the appearance of the G70 in Korea to its appearance here in the states.

I'm not sure how many have experienced trying to use speech control with multiple people in the car, I got so frustrated with my Acura RL because it would get my commands completely mixed up because of the background conversations. A good system needs to be able to differentiate between the driver's voice commands and other conversations, otherwise speech control just doesn't work well .... unless you ask everyone to shut up while you increase the temperature :)

I plan on getting either 3.3T Prestige or Sport. The car will have at least 2 dozen tech features my Hyundai does not have, not counting all the stuff the touchscree does, so I feel like I will have more than enough to figure out and learn to use.

The digital dash would be overkill for me at this point. I hope they offer it as an option for those who want it, but I’m happy with the analog gauges.

I'm with you on the digital dash - I could not care less about it. The new AWD setup, on the other hand, is something I want to read more about. I'm assuming the software will be similar to what Kia is bragging about for the Stinger refresh. That new rear differential, though... Hmmm...

I like the existing dash, and as someone already posted. The my19 already has this AWD system. They said it was not on the first model in Korea but we already get the AWD with drift mode. The only feature we do not have is the 3d dash that I think I don't even want. In sure if I had it I would like it but I like the analog look with the round bezels

Except that a LOT of people are texting on their cell phones while driving multiple ton vehicles at high rates of speed. Voice commands for more vehicle functions is actually a welcome development, IMO

not to disturb the party but it seems we are talking about all fun stuff other than "
G70 US Availability" . Has anyone here actually got a G70 yet? or is this the forum for people who like G70 and do not have one yet?

are there any indications of new shipments or new dealers becoming available?

I have one month or so to go on my lease, I was very excited for a long time about the concept of G70 and I was hoping to be able to lease one, at a reasonable price, and from a new dealer network with a new mentality that you won't have to play all the haggling games and back and forth over price and availability and so on that I absolutely hate about car buying experience in US. But from what I heard so far in this forum, is not going to happen for G70 at least until 2020 or 2021. it sounds like I need to think seriously about Plan B. any suggestions?

There were two members here who have purchased I believe and another is picking hers up in the next week or so. My list has it at 8 states now have them with 16 dealers.

I think all that no haggling stuff is the Canadian market. Probably still have to do some of that around here if you want to pay less than MSRP. More dealerships are starting to get them but it likely won't be widely avaliable until early next year.

I was looking at a Reddit post and someone also said there's a store or two in the Inland Empire (California) that have em. He said his friend was able to check them out, but from my research they're not listed in the inventory yet. Too lazy to call the dealerships to find out

According to all of the information we have received that is not the case, at least as being able to sell them. Genesis Consumer Affairs confirmed the other day that they are still not licensed in California. Did they maybe go to a car show or display, they have been traveling around.

Lots of rumors and speculation. The post below which I found in case anyone wants to follow up. The people on the G70 forum generally only post reliable information, so you can be fairly sure that as soon as the G70 is avaiable in California, you will hear it here first.

"His buddy" might not even know what a G70 is...
I wouldn't count on 3rd hand info in a state that we're pretty sure can't sell yet.

Totally agree. Regardless, even voice commands require thought process that detracts from actual driving. And I don't know about you, but as Pete_CA said with his Acura, if the voice command isn't recognized the initial couple of times, that'll start to irritate anyone. Now you've got potential rage due to that hahaha.

I think we've strayed off topic due to the fact that there are still very few dealerships across the country that have them. Chicago is not exactly a small hub/city and we don't have any yet. In fact, this article describes exactly your scenario and they even interviewed a Chicago Genesis dealership owner.
