If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Ohio still not getting G70's anytime soon. I was on a biz trip and before leaving Ohio today, I stopped into a dealership. Per the sales rep, the state is still in a legal battle over contracts, separate dealerships and all the cars are ported. Really a poor job of rolling out a new brand and new car. Glad I'm on the east coast and some states are starting to see cars. But, with the string of comments on pricing....I'm not sure how many they're going to sell.
I used to work at Dennis Hyundai at Easton back in 2011. I stopped in there today and spoke with the Sales Manager. He confirmed that they will be selling Genesis, but they are not expecting any inventory until November or December at this point. There's a Kia dealership next door that used to be under the Dennis brand, so I looked at the Stingers up close. That car looks a lot better in person than pictures, but there is a lot more plastic than the G70. Rear seats and trunk are bigger, though. Still need to test drive both, but lease returns will come a lot faster on the Stingers than the Genesis! (Let someone else pay for the depreciation!)

So I have been to a Infiniti dealership and Infiniti is literally giving away their brand new Q50 3.0t 2018s. I was quoted 14k off of 50k MSRP car which brings down the price to 36k with out LKA feature. I am still holding on to g70 but my hold is losing every day and I am very much tempted to bite the bullet with q50. what are your all thoughts compared to q50 vs g70 2T? not the v6

I actually saw a Stinger for the first time today. In comparison to the G70...no comparison. Hate the Kia grill. Quad exhaust is nice. That’s it. In regards to a Sportback...Audi all the way.

I want my G70!!!!

Wow. Incredible buy it seems.

So I ended up calling the Genesis dealer and told them no thank you. I decided to wait until spring time when more dealers had the car for sale and pricing becomes more competitive. Right now it seems they all have a big head about being “exclusive dealers” who have the only G70’s for sale in a large radius and don’t have to give any room for negotiation.

I’d also like to see what various manufacturers are going to offer for their 2020 lineup (such as the Toyota Supra). It’s tough because once you get the new car itch it’s hard to shrug off.

Yes, hopefully pricing comes down as it is more available. Just think what it would have been like if Genesis' original plan would have come to fruition with relatively few dealers throughout the states. They may have never sold below MSRP.

Simple, 6 month into your second year of lease you fall into a pothole and your tires give up, and you are forced to buy new tires in the middle of your lease. or if not that and you just bear with it until the end of the lease, then when you return it they will charge you like $500 per tire for "excess wear and tear". win/win situation for them !

that's what happened with my 2015 Infiniti Q50 run flat sporty tires, I have changed 3 of them so far (cost of $1500) and I will have to do 2 more when/if I return the lease in a month or so.
I know, before my current G80, I leased Optima SX 2.0T 2013, at the end of my Optima term I had to pay deposition fee of $400 (because I left KIA to Hyundai(?!)) and pay for two tires. That is why I am asking. Couple of days ago I did the inspection on my G80 3.8 AWD 2015 - the inspector quoted me $0.00, because tires are still in acceptable condition. I cannot imagine those fancy Michelin will hold even 28k, never mind 36 mo. Haven't seen
G70 live yet, but if this is the case than I will think twice.

If you are shopping comparable brands the same situation will likely exist, just a cost of ownership with this type of car and tires.

Made a few phone calls and sent some emails--general results suggested:Texas, Oklahoma Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas, collectively at present, have one new Genesis dealer who has signed the new franchise agreement--located in Missouri. At present no information on any G70s going to any of the dealers in any of these states, albeit only one dealer (Missouri) has, supposedly, signed a new franchise agreement.

Seems a pretty large area to have only one "approved" dealer. (This information from Genesis "corporate.") Phone calls to various dealers within those areas indicated potentially conflicting information--such as some of the dealers stating they anticipated/hoped for cars within 45 days (or so).

Thanks for the info. Hopefully things break through real soon and more states/dealers are approved quickly.

I sure hope so. I am beginning to think that some of the posts I have seen suggesting more likely to be a few months (or early 2019) before we see much of the car may be more accurate. And, in the interim, seems like the rollout is haphazard--dictated (obviously) by what dealerships have agreements in place. One dealer I spoke to said no one in the state would be receiving the car--because (he claimed) marketing suggested it would not sell well--so, I'm guessing that dealership is likely not going to be a new Genesis dealer and just a bit annoyed at the process.

Yeah in this class, it's just going to cost you more money on tires. Got to decide if it's worth it to you.

I've had great luck with Infiniti. I drove a G37 6MT for 6 years (absolutely loved it) and a QX50 for the past 3 (another great car for what it is). When I discovered the RS400, I was pretty sure it would be my next car.

But then I started to do some digging. You've already noted the steering issue and the outdated tech. But an even bigger turn-off for me is the run-flat tires. They drive terribly, and are susceptible to side-wall failures according to multiple reports. Some of the video reviewers recommended taking them off and replacing them immediately.

By all accounts, the car simply doesn't handle as well as its predecessors with mechanical steering and conventional tires. The power is the big lure but more power with less handling isn't a combination that appeals to me.

So, as much as I wanted to love the Infiniti (and I do like its looks a lot), it just has too many shortcomings to stay on my consideration list.

I haven't driven a G70 yet, so I'm not sure what I'll think when I do. On paper, it looks like a winner. If I dislike it for some reason, there are other alternatives at the ready. Despite the seeming inconsistency when compared to the G70, the Mustang GT in top trim still intrigues me. It's fast as stink, handles really well, and has a much nicer interior than I expected based on those of a few years ago. No back seat to speak of but I don't care. It also has very good tech with a superb digital dash display, tuneable exhaust, and lots of other nice little features. The Audi RS5 coupe would cost more but is also intriguing, I'll probably drive one next week. But the Q50 RS400 is pretty much off the list at this point.

I'm not trying to persuade anybody one way or another but just sharing my individual perspective.

If you think the Mustang is fast, you might want to watch the Throttle House video of the Stinger vs, the Mustang. Yeah, I know the Stinger is not the G70 but is does share the same engine. Spoiler alert, the Stinger smoked it!

My son and I attended the Sacramento International Auto show yesterday. Two interesting observations, no G70 and the Stinger was not drawing any attention. The only people who seemed interested were a guy and his small son who wanted to sit in the seat. It was sad to see people just walking by it. It’s a nice car and a good value. Not only the limited attention but the car was water spotted and the engine bay was pretty dusty like it had been sitting on the lot for months. I wonder if the G70 will suffer the same fate next year. While visiting the Hyundai section I spoke to one of the reps, I asked if they worked for Hyundai or a dealership and they said Hyundai. I asked about the G70 and he was not even aware it was being sold yet and made it clear Genesis is a separate brand now. My son has a Veloster Turbo and I have my Genesis Coupe Track so we are pretty loyal but there were several cars that caught my attention. As usual the Corvette Grand Sport was very popular even though the C7 has been out since 2014; there was a line of people waiting to sit in it. The G50 Red Sport (I know bad reviews) but that candy apple red paint was sure nice. On paper this car looks temping if it weren’t for the bad press. The Audi Sport back looked good but the 2.0 liter engine does not excite me. BMW and Mercedes did not have much presence. I will go to the SF auto show next month, Nov 21st, if I am still looking as I am told they will have the G70. Perhaps the G70s at that show will end up being the first to be sold in CA once the show is over, who knows.

Interesting because when I attended the NY auto show last April, I had to wait 15 minutes or so to sit in the G70. Loads of attention back then.

'Exclusive'...that's pretty funny. They just lucky from a timing perspective, is all. In the end, they will be just another car dealership.

Hopefully they get their stuff together before the new 3 series comes out...otherwise that hype will crush them and their dreams of becoming the class leader and a special brand will be take even longer.....

Excellent points! If the new 3 series reclaims the handling, steering feedback and sporty character that made it a popular enthusiast car in the 80’s and 90’s, rather than a trendy badge, the G70 will lose the edge that reviewers claim it has right now.

FYI: Drove up to the Hyundai/Genesis dealer in Detroit, and per their sales manager, they received 50 model year 2019 Genesis G70/80/90. Specifically they got 19x G70 (with more still coming) and 3 G90's. They seem to not be moving them. One sales rep told me they haven't sold any yet, another independently said they sold "lots" and the sales manager said they sold 3-4 since they arrived....not looking good. Sounds just like the stinger on launch. I wonder if they will start dropping the prices on them sooner rather than later.
