  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Headlights turning off and on intermittently

My 2015 Genesis Ultimate does the exact same thing. Had it to the dealer 3 times and they said they could not replicate problem, SO, I escleated it to customer care and I am waiting to here from the technical section. I assume they will get this addressed pretty quick being this is a safety issue! I also did remind them of the safety aspect. Will post what they want to do and if it is corrected.

Oh yea, thats hyundai for ya. I told them i have it on video and if it causes a crash thats a pretty good lawsuit waiting to happen, and they still didn't budge.

I have the same issue with the auto mode and went to dealer several times and they would not take the case because they said if they could not duplicate they would not be able to fix it. Please let me know. I bought it new and it is getting tight with warranty expires.

The same issue happens intermittently in my 2015 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate package. It's been to 2 dealer repair facilities, 3 separate times for this issue, and is now at the dealership again. They had a mechanic drive the car home at night trying to replicate it, and of course it didn't happen. It may happen once in a month, or twice in 5 minutes. It scared the hell out of my wife when we were driving home from Thanksgiving at night on a busy freeway and our lights went out twice!

My 2015 Genesis 3.8 RWD ultimate is at the dealer for the same problem. This is the 3rd time I've taken it to the dealership for this issue. Thanksgiving evening we're driving on a VERY crowded freeway and suddenly the lights turn off...twice! My wife freaked out.
The dealer kept the car overnight so a mechanic could drive it at night, but because the problem is intermittent it didn't happen, of course. I've brought them printouts from this web site and hoping they just replace the headlight stalk.

I am having the exact same issue on my 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0. Its very random but it does happen from time to time. Unfortunately, the dealer won't do anything unless they can re-create the scenario.

Could be downright scary at the wrong time.

It may help to narrow down the problem to the switch or sensor. Does it happen when the lights are in AUTO mode? Does it still happen when in Manual mode?

Its in the switch, I replaced my control stalk and hasn't happened since. It's getting the dealership to see it happening is the problem.

I will never understand the dealers' (or is it HMA's?) thinking on this.
So what if it happens to a tech when he drives it overnight?
It's intermittent; it doesn't post any codes; what can they do except look for loose connections, and start replacing parts?

My tech at the dealer says he reminds everybody there: "Our customers have better things to do than invent problems so they have to do without their cars".
I think he's right; but management somewhere thinks differently.

This happened again this week (Tuesday and Wednesday night) but this time I captured it on video. After I emailed th video to the new car manager, they have finally started to take some action. The local dealer has provided me a Genesis loaner until they can fix it. I received a call from a regional rep as well. I will keep you up to date as to the status

For those who are wondering or thinking the AUTO headlights On/Off function is to blame for this issue, I don't ever use the AUTO setting. I manually switch my headlights on and off. While some like to refer to every electrical malfunction as a short, there is also something called an OPEN circuit. I believe this is an open circuit issue. Both headlights go off together, this is not a individual headlight bulb or socket problem. If it were, only one headlight would go off.

When they go off there is no change in the instrument panel, the cluster doesn't switch to full daylight brightness nor does the Navigation map change to daylight mode.

This tells me the headlight switch itself is probably working but the signal to the headlight relay ceases, or the available power to the headlight relay is being lost, or the relay output to the headlight bulbs is being lost.

I plan on my own investigation by fashioning a wiring harness with an LED to indicate input to the headlight relay from the switch, another to indicate power to the relay which enables the headlights, and a third for monitoring the output of the relay that directly powers the headlights. Depending on which one goes off during the malfunction will tell me where the fault is occurring.

When it happened to me, I would lose all lights including dash lights. Only thing I have left was the radio screen and the instrument cluster. Otherwise the car is dark.

I have had my 2015 Genesis sedan for 5 months (I purchased it with 12k miles on it). On 8-10 different occasions, at night, my headlights unexpectedly turn off for 5-6 seconds, flash back on for a few seconds, turn off for a few seconds and then turn back on. Dealer says they can't get this to happen for them so they are doing nothing about it.

Has anyone experienced this? If so what was the problem and resolution? Thanks

Okay--I've had this happen several times, all with lights on auto Just happens that our community is installing LED street lights to replace the old bulb lights. I've noticed this happening when I pass under one of these LED street lights that happens to hang "way" over the street. I think they are so bright that they kick off the auto light system and then kick back on when that light is cleared.

Only had my car for a few months and this has happened twice while on auto and at the exact same location as I was turning onto my street. I have a feeling some outside source of light and/or reflection at that exact spot caused the system to hiccup.
At least I hope so.

I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis with the exact same problem mentioned here. Was driving 70 MPH on the turnpike when this happened to me. Heart stopping!! Called Hyundai they said they had no open recalls on this issue. Need to take it in to be diagnosed. Based on what I'm reading here this isn't a likely outcome. Filed a NHTSA safety complaint.

Was it fixed? Did they go out in Auto mode or regular mode?

Yeah, would be scary on the Turnpike. I imagine it takes a fair number of times to happen for a recall.

There were about 30 NHTSA reports when I filed mine.
