  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All, I sent the following question to the Genesis Corporate department.
"Hello,
I currently own a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8. I understand that Ed Voyles is building a standalone Genesis dealership on Cobb Parkway in Smyrna, GA. Would I be able to take the 2015 Genesis there for service or only to the Hyundai dealership? If I purchased a 2017 or later Genesis vehicle would I be able to have that vehicle serviced at the Genesis service center?"
See the following response from Genesis Corporate.
"Dear J@#n,

Thank you for contacting Genesis Motor America. We appreciate you taking the time to get in contact with us in regards to the servicing of your 2015 Hyundai Genesis and for a 2017 Model Year Genesis vehicle.

The 2015 Hyundai Genesis is still technically a Hyundai vehicle, so the best course of action for servicing that would be to take it to a Hyundai dealer, as that would still be the designated manufacturer and work on the vehicle can only be guaranteed at a Hyundai retailer.

Any Genesis vehicle past the 2017 Model Year brand split is designated Genesis and therefore the work can only be guaranteed at licensed Genesis retailers.

We appreciate this opportunity to answer your questions. If there is any further assistance that we may provide, feel free to contact us directly at our toll free number (844) 340-9741. Our office hours are Monday-Friday 5:00 am to 7:00 pm PST and Saturday 6:30 to 3:00. Reference your case number (14476064) and any of our Genesis Specialists will be happy to assist you.

Respectfully,

Genesis Customer Care

Doesn’t the response from corporate answer your question? Or have I missed some nuance that you are seeing?

Nice to know... but havent seen any Genesis breakoff in my city yet - Still just the Hyundai dealership

What city are you in? In addition to the five NC dealerships that currently have inventory, there are four more (Elizabeth City, Hickory, High Point and Asheville) that should be ready soon. Beyond that, there are currently no other dealers on the radar for North Carolina.

Actually all "new" Genesis dealers here in South Florida are located inside Hyundai dealers. To say it in other words, in SF all Genesis dealers are Hyundai dealers but not all Hyundai dealers are Genesis dealers.

But isn't that a temporary situation? On paper they will be separated and the Hyundai side will do the work on a 2015.

Not according to what they announced last September. There is no longer any mandate to build a separate building. They would like them to but many will just be a dealer within a dealer with a separate showroom area.

Correct and the Service area is the same for both at least for now.

But that does not mean they are not separate brands and the billing depends on what car you have. Just like a Caddy/Chevy dealer, the warranty is provided by the brand. In the case of warranty work, the dealer bills the brand though they are both GM cars.

No one ever said they weren't separate brands, we are talking about the facilities.

I live in Smyrna, GA, a suburb of Atlanta, GA. Ed Voyles Hyundai/Genesis is located in Smyrna, GA.

I'm in Greensboro - didnt know about the High Point dealership though

I haven't seen anything about a dealer in Greensboro but that can change quickly. High Point is fairly close so that may be the dealer in your area.

I used to take my '16 to a Hyundai dealer that had a Genesis license, and it was great. I always got the standard Genesis scheduled service, which is almost like a bundled package, and it was generally the same price every time. No one pressured me to buy anything or add services. This was one of the main reasons I used to tout my car over my wife's Hyundai, for which this terrible service experience is pretty much the norm. Then, the dealer lost its ability to sell Genesis. Since then, my experience has gone down hill dramatically - I now get the usual push by the service guy, who walks me around with the laminated sheet of things I "should have done today", which includes things not in the Genesis scheduled maintenance. They don't do the standard components of the Genesis scheduled maintenance - like rotating tires, etc., as they used to, and I now pay over a hundred dollars more per visit (on the 7500 mile maintenance) than I used to. Basically, I get the same bad service as I do on my much less expensive Hyundai, which reinforces all the critics that warned me against buying a luxury Hyundai in the first place. I was planning to try the only Genesis dealer in the state instead, even though it's much less convenient, but based on the response the OP got from Genesis, I guess there is no reason to do so. Not really a luxury car experience.

Do you think you'd do better with another luxury brand? My Mercedes dealer was worse than any Hyundai dealer. Most car dealers are the same. Best bet is to find another Genesis dealer.

I think he is referring to having to go to a Hyundai dealer for service rather than a Genesis dealer. He has a 2016 so Genesis won't service it under Genesis, their Hyundai side would of course and that may get him some better service since they would be a Genesis dealer.

Why would a Genesis dealer not service it? He would be a paying customer. If a Genesis dealer takes a Ford in trade and sells it, won't he service it too? A paying customer is a paying customer and I've never know a dealer to turn away a customer, but I guess it can happen. Warranty work may be different, of course.

It seems you are missing the point of the conversation. Obviously you can take any car to any dealer and they may work on it but that is not what we are talking about. The OP got a statement from Genesis that he should take his pre-2017 model to a Hyundai dealer to have worked on and not a Genesis dealer because it is a Hyundai. The poster today was commenting on that, saying they were going to drive across state to the only Genesis dealer but given that Genesis is saying that a Hyundai dealer should work on the car he won't. I believe he was referring to receiving the type of treatment expected from a luxury brand but the statement from Genesis says they don't consider pre-2017 models to be theirs so he may not receive that treatment from a Genesis dealer.

This complaint is filled with a lot of hot air...no substance to it whatsoever. Since when did dealers rotate tires for free? And what are theses so-called formerly free “components of Genesis scheduled maintenance?”
