  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

They may not have sent any after June or July stateside.
Probably not. Are they still producing 2019 if so why not send more now?

No idea but I'm sure they will ramp up production when the demand rises!
I got mine ordered in October and received in November and mine was assembled in June.
The car was relatively unknown to common folk until it started winning all the awards December onwards!

It appears they have more than enough inventory for now. The current dealers are constantly getting new shipments and new dealers do not seem to be waiting long to get the initial inventory. Maybe after Texas and California get rolling they will send some more over if it is still early enough in the model year. Then again, maybe they will just introduce the 2020 early.

I think $1200 off MSRP is a perfectly reasonable offer. Of course this car is in a special place at the moment. It's a brand new model, has won a ton of awards, is the kind of car that a certain group of people fall in love with, and is currently in very short supply. All of those points argue for the dealer to ask a higher price. On the other hand, the car is entering a very crowded segment with well established competition that has more "brand prestige" (which is something that a certain group of people also fall in love with), and is also a sedan at a time when sales of sedans are falling fast; in addition, the manufacturer has an incentive to get the car out on the road fast so more people see it. Those points all argue for a lower price.

I took a quick look at the latest TrueCar stats... photo attached. I'm not sure how useful this information is because there are so few sales and thus data may be too thin to draw conclusions (for instance, they don't have enough data to tell us anything about the price on cars with option packages), but it makes some sense that early sales (as noted here) were a bit over MSRP as the earliest buyers should be people focused on this particular car, perhaps impressed by the awards, and willing to pay more to get their hands on it. But if this is correct and invoice is about $1500 below MSRP (base model), then the dealer should do perfectly well selling the car at $1200 below MSRP. (I'm assuming there's probably some dealer incentive -- a bonus paid to the dealer by the manufacturer -- of at least a few hundred dollars.) But you may have to wait a few weeks/a month or two, before they are willing to sell at that price.

Switching topics... re the sound system, I am curious to hear it -- for me it will be a big factor in whether I want to buy the car. I know from car shopping experience that some sound systems get "bad" reviews because the system doesn't have booming bass -- that's something a lot of people want these days. I myself prefer a more balanced system. I listen mostly to acoustic music and to me the most difficult thing to reproduce realistically is a solo piano. But... I have discovered if you have a quiet car (to me, this is the key reason to spend more for a "luxury" car) and a good sound system, then what you have is a rolling pair of good headphones. 😎 When I "upgraded" from my old Toyota to a Mercedes GLC a couple of years ago, I couldn't believe the difference it made in my attitude about sitting in traffic. I now almost look forward to traffic jams... emphasis on almost... 🤓

Appreciate the response. With the options/package I picked, the invoice to MSRP was $2400, so I agree I was being reasonable. Right now the car is sitting out in -8 degree weather, so I think that loses it a bit more value as well.;)

Another thought is that the main competitor, the brand new 3 Series is coming to dealers soon, that is going to steal a lot of the G70's thunder this year, awards or not. First the 330i in the spring, then the M340i coming this summer. These new Genesis dealerships should be trying to get cars out the door now before the headlines follow someone else.

Dealers may be limited, but I'm not sure the car is in short supply. If so, they wouldn't still be working off inventory from last May and June, would they?

January sales numbers should be out by week’s end. Interesting to see if they rise in proportion to available cars...?

New 330 is no where close to the G70...and way more money...sorry.

Wait till you guys and gals see the materials that Genesis is going to use for there interiors. It might just make the competition look outdated.

You guys might be interested to know that last night Consumer Reports posted its rating of the G70 — 73 out of 100. For comparison the 3 series (18 model) is rated 75. C class rated 72. I love CR for its no BS approach. Since they don’t take advertising, they don’t have to hype cars the way other outlets have to.

I totally agree.

True, but they do have their own bias that you have to read through. Too often what they consider a fault I would consider a feature. Maybe they learned a lesson since Suzuki though.

I agree. They take a very utilitarian approach and it’s worth knowing that when considering their ratings. For instance i would guess that things like gas mileage, braking performance, and how much gas is left when the low gas light comes on (they ding the G70 for this; they say when the light comes on you’ve only got 20 miles left) matters a lot more to them than to the typical reader of this forum 😎

But overall I think CR exerts a very positive influence on the car industry. For instance, their advocacy is one reason so much of the high tech safety stuff like automatic braking is quickly becoming standard. I believe in subscribing just to support what they do. I think annual access to the website is something like $20 a year. Getting past the bs of the advertising industry is well worth that, to me.

CR has been very positive on Genesis in general. That’s one reason a non-performance person like me is so interested in this car. If you search YouTube for “consumer reports g70” you’ll find their initial video review from several months ago which was quite enthusiastic.

Consumer Reports gave the BMW 2 series a 98 on the road test score. Too bad it's a coupe.

No where close how? I have decided I don't want to get another BMW but the 330 and the G70 3.3T will be very competitive price wise and size wise. I agree that the M340 will be way more expensive, but not the 330. The BMW marketing machine and dealer network is a juggernaut compared to Genesis. The engine power will be in the G70s favor, but the fuel economy of the BMW will crush the G70. Not as many people are as interested in the HP as fuel economy and the badge means even more than either to most premium buyers. I still think Genesis dealers are likely to see a drop in interest once the 19 3 Series comes available.
