  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Did your insurance company have 2019 G70 in their system?

So my insurance company listed my 3.3t Sport as a "3.3t Design 4d" and has quoted me at $791 every 6 months. Could someone let me know if this sounds reasonable? I'm also curious if the "design" title is driving up the cost since those are actually limited run cars.
That quote is on target to what my present insurance company who has my existing car and home quoted me on a 3.3 sport. But, when I asked my agent how I could get a new quote from another carrier so much cheaper he said prospective insurance companies when looking at a new policy and at someone who had been with their present company more than 5 years will low-ball quotes to get your business, then start a steady increase each renewal cycle until they get you to profitable numbers. Leaving an existing company also means if I was to come back in a few years as a new customer, my rating class and seniority starts all over. He said most companies provide discounted rate structures with longevity. They don’t tell you what that is though. He said how companies come up with their rates and discounts allowed is somewhat a secrete algorithm model that agents have no details on.

Thanks for the info!

I think your agent fed you a line. ;) That is generally opposite of how insurance companies work in regards to longevity. In most instances it is not rewarded at all. The majority of consumer/insurance experts recommend to shop insurance every three years or so and switch companies whenever needed. There obviously could be exceptions.

Also you should keep in mind that coverage between us here on the forum are probably significantly different, in addition to differences in insurance laws between states. It's difficult to state a 6 month premium and compare, unless we have ALL the details. And honestly, even then it could be tough because insurance coverage can get so dang convoluted..

Even so -- my 6 month premium is 539.82, and I've got some pretty hefty coverage. Others may have a better deal than me, but so far my current company has had BY FAR the best deal I've seen for me... But USAA is like that, and not everyone can get the same deal without military service, so they are a little unique when it comes to prices.

Also, before I moved to Oregon my premium for my and my wife's car was around $150 less, despite essentially the same coverage. So, don't get caught up comparing your numbers with others, but *definitely* compare numbers for yourself across several different agencies!

Either way, I agree with @TurtleBoy , it always pays to shop around and keep in mind that insurance agents are just like car salesmen, a bunch of thieves! Haha. Sorry for rambling on.

I was a little perturbed with USAA. I shopped around for auto, home and umbrella after I got the BMW and my quote online from them was higher than what I was currently paying with Amica. I figured there was no discount showing for bundling so I would call them. The lady in customer service said the only prices she could give me were the online ones and there was no way to predict how much of a discount I would get by bundling. She said I would have to sign up for all of the policies and wait a month or so to see if the premiums drop. If they don't go down as much as I want I could cancel and go someplace else. That just did not seem right to me but since they were so much higher than what I went with (Acuity) I just let lt rest there. At least I got a discount from BMW for being a USAA member so it was worth joining.

Understandable. Even now I'm having a hard time seeing all my discounts... The multi-car discount is there, knocking off $160 for mine and my wife's car combined, it also shows a bunch of other BS listed as "discounts" but I don't see one for my property insurance... But looking at the property insurance itself, looks like I get a ~%10 discount because I've bundled.

Take that as you will. My info is probably worth about as much as you paid for it. 😬

I have USAA as well--at close to the same amount as Toddasaurus for 6 months (a bit less)--and I keep quite a bit of insurance.

TB --I am surprised they could not give you a better idea on what the amount would be on bundling--usually they are pretty helpful and that seems like a common sense question that they need to be able to answer.

I like USAA--each year I recieve an amount back based on how well the company did--can apply to next year premium or request a check.

Oh man, USAA. Back in the day I got a Veloster and they wanted $720.

PER MONTH.

Even the customer service rep on the phone was "WTF".

Went State Farm after that and been happy since. However they also had to quote me a 2018 G80 bc the G70 wasn't in the system.
