  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is it just me or does the interface between car and phone app feel somewhat clunky? For instance, I just checked it 5 minutes ago and it told me my doors were unlocked. Sent the lock request before I realized that I was looking at a status update from 6:43am (it is now 1:30pm)!

The request take a while to actually execute as well. I asked to start the car the other day and it didn't start until I walked down 3 flights of stairs and then across the parking lot (no overhead/structure) to the car. I could have opened the door and turned it on myself before it got up and running!

Anyone else have this kind of experience?

It can be slow and clunky at times. Unless you refresh the status it will give you the last one. Most times it takes about a minute to actually start, or for most requests. Not sure where the hangup is, their servers or possibly where the car is parked.

Just checked mine when I read your post and it took a good minute just for the app to open. Usually it is faster.

I appreciate you checking. I'd imagine there's a "wake up" signal and some sort of authentication process that has to lead the actual message with the action to take, so it is understandable that it wouldn't be absolutely instant. Either way, it seems like a good area for improvement for Genesis

Just tried it, 3 seconds to open. 17 seconds to refresh the status 10 sec to unlock including entering the pin. I think that is faster than normal for me. I believe it is highly dependent on your location and the speed of the WiFi or cellular signal on your phone.

My app takes just a couple of seconds to open (password is saved) just 5 secs for sending the start command and in my house usually takes between 25 to 40 seconds to start the car.

For a while in the beginning it kept saying one of my doors were unlocked. Haven't seen it happen for a while now.

As for remote start it doesn't take long for me. However, I use Android and keep the Widget on my home screen for quick access

Cool background.

And yes, for me the app is painfully slow. When checking the vehicle status it always shows old information, unless I hit refresh - which takes its sweet time to do so - then it tells me the correct status of doors and other things.

I hardly use it anymore. I wish we had most of those functions on the key fob instead. Oh well.

I have to wonder, are there times when the servers can't keep up? I'm thinking at 4:55PM in each time zone as people are leaving work. There are quite a few contact points to get the vehicle status to you even though the car is parked 50 feet away. Phone to wi-fi to servers to cellular network to car and back again. Wore me out just typing all of that.

I tried about 6am EST this morning...and just bringing up the app (last time was Sat) took almost 30 seconds. Annoying as F.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I just checked the status and updated status. It took 11 sec to load the app. 13 sec to show the old (from Saturday, almost a week ago) status and 47 sec to update the status.
In computer time these days that is uncalled for.
My first guess is not enough servers at Hyundai/Genesis/ or whoever (it could be an outside contractor).
I will keep this in mind when it comes time to renew the Bluelink.

Opening the app and getting logged in takes ~10-15 seconds on my end (guesstimate @ 7:45AM, at work), but the refresh and actual signals sent take forever (took roughly 1-1.5min each just now). I have great signal in my office and sit right next to a floor-to-ceiling window with a clear view of my car (which I might add is very distracting). Hopefully they make some progress on this soon enough, otherwise nobody is going to want to renew their contracts

Mine usually tells me that my doors are unlocked, when they are indeed locked. Only if I send a lock command from the App will they show locked, or occasionally a refresh will do it.

I am not sure that a server bottleneck explains the fact that some folks see a reasonable response time while others find it slow. Furthermore the ones who say it is slow “seem to” always say it is slow regardless of the time of day. I think more data needs to be reported before we conclude the root cause.

^ your phone is not the bottleneck.

Remember...cars are 3G and very dependent on location. Garage = bad, etc.

Next...cars do not get real-time pushes. Cars post to servers for info/refresh. Push mentality as opposed to pull (car pushes).

So your car polls and updates the server every X interval. Other interfaces read from the server.

The bottleneck is your car’s reception + polling interval.

Now...shitty ass server response time adds to the frustration.

^ I'm pretty sure I read that the new Genesis models are 4G since the 3G network will be disappearing soon.

There was also a post I will try to find that talked about the remote commands and how they work. For both battery and network efficiency, the cars don't poll the sever but rather receive the remote command similar to getting a text message. Makes sense so this way thousands of cars aren't constantly sending messages to the servers but rather just sitting in wait mode to receive a command.

Well I have nothing better to do Sunday... I'll probably drive around to different areas and test this out at various times of the day.

Sounds like a good way break in the car and hit those 600 miles

@Beefer, I doubt that it polls at intervals because the "updated time" on the app will be the last time you hit refresh regardless of when that was, at least from my experience
