  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ceramic Tint suggestions

Have any of you have issues with the defrosters on the rear windshield, with regards to tint application?

I've read some posts/articles about how the lines being raised on the inside of the glass causes issues for tint application. As a result you get a glare/duplicative effect from lights behind you. Trying to figure out if it's a product related issue, application related, or both
Every car I have had the windows tinted on has had some distortion in the back window from the defroster lines. No way to avoid it. It's more noticeable at first, but gets better over time as the tint dries and sets.

After awhile you dont even notice it anyway

You get headlight glare on back window even without heater lines. This should be true of any tint product because it is caused by the boundary between glass and tint material.

Yeah that glare is annoying. Will be worse the first couple of days while curing.

Rayno S9, 20%VLT Ceramic tint on all side windows and rear windshield. The front has a 70% ceramic tint applied, but I forgot the exact name of the film. Something-air, I think. No issues with seeing at night or with sunglasses on. Looks a bit lighter with the sunroof open and/or on a sunny day.

I was told by one tint shop that Rayno is trash and to look at their reviews, but I didn't see anything bad about em. The heat rejection on the S9 film is amazing (the S5 film's heat rejection is so-so comparatively. I was originally considering it because of price) and even the lighter tint in the front cuts down a good amount of heat. For those who still haven't done it, I would highly recommend tinting ALL your windows. (skip the sunroof though)

EDIT: The front windshield tint also HELPS the HUD. Using polarized glasses blocked it out completely before the tint, but now that it's done, I can see it even with polarized glasses on. It is a considerable bit dimmer than without the (polarized) glasses, but it was invisible before the tint.

PS: The G70 (at least the 3.3t Sport) comes with 70% VLT glass on the sides (not sure about the windshields), so it will make you tint a bit darker than just the percentage you choose. Technically mine should be around 14% if measured

How much did the installation cost? And how long did it take?

Negotiated it down to $550 (including the front windshield), but I think full retail is $700. Seems like a lot, but it seems to be a more premium film and a front windshield tint usually costs ~$130-150+ on its own at the shops I called.

Took a couple hours and this shop does not remove door panels. I see that as a good thing, but other tint shops may say it is improper. This guy seems to stand by his work, so I doubt I'll have any issues regardless + Rayno has a lifetime warranty on their ceramic tint films.

Edit: Worth noting that I am technically a repeat customer. My brother took his Q50S in last year and got Rayno S5 35% film all around, no front windshield tint. Likely why I was able to get a bit of a discount.

I just got my G80 done with Llumar FormulaOne Pinnacle(ceramic). $509 including the front windshield. It took one hour to put on. They didn’t take off any door panels or the 3rd brake light to install. The HUD is brighter due to the darker windshield it is projected on to.

Pic’s. VLT5 on back seat, VLT15 on front and VLT50 on windshield.

Nope. Mine requires VLT30 on drivers seat row. No restrictions on the rear area.

Anyone know what factory tint the car comes with?

I was very good experiences with Rayno S9 films, I have experiences with Formula One Pinnacle, 3M Crystalline, and Suntek CXP on my previous/current cars. One thing I have noticed about S9 was, the film was a little thicker, which made less clarity than Formula One Pinnacle (thinnest film out of all). However, in terms of heat rejection and quality -
1. S9 --BEST
2. 3M Crystalline
3. Formula One Pinnacle
4. Suntek CXP

70% VLT. If you take a look at the window (bottom right side, I believe) it is written there among the other information about the glass

Is this on fronts only or all around?

I believe it is all the windows besides the front windshield - which I'm not certain about, but I believe it is fully clear.

70% VLT is basically clear

I had my windshield done with Llumar Air Blue 80. I’ve yet to have anyone notice the films presence from the outside, but boy what a big difference it makes on the inside. Blocks a ton of heat gain through the windshield and the reduction in glare is pretty impressive when you consider how light the film appears.
