  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

flutter @ 25-30mph

I too have the same exact fluttering at 25mph mostly when coasting or decelerating extremely frustrating but ive read your threads i will test out opening the console and bringing it to the dealer for a customer test drive

I just bought a CPO 2016 Genesis Sedan 3.8 AWD on Saturday. Has about 19k miles on it. On Sunday morning, I noticed this exact flutter. Just wanted to chime in in case anyone can get Hyundai to do something about this.

I'm not super car savvy, so when I do bring it into the dealer, what do I say needs fixing?

OK, so I did some more thorough reading on this thread and found my answer. Shaft assembly propeller

I had the rear diff, transfer case, prop assemblies and multiple drive shafts. Had a clicking noise too with mine. The noise is gone the vibration and flutter are still there. The car really shakes. Fine once it warms up. The engineer said it’s normal. SURE it is. I am certain the noise will back, how can’t it when the vibration is still there?

Plus with the constant sunroof rattles that are also not fixable, I’m considering pulling the plug on this car. I can even live with the vibrations, but the pano roof?? Non stop noise. I can’t even push anywhere to make it stop. It’s almost like its the glass itself? My KIA Optima pano never did that as bad as this Genesis.

Oh, and even with Michelin’s, still get the flat spots and highway vibrations for the first 10 mins. They say it’s the weight of the car? This is not even heavy compared to some cars?

Same flutter. My dealer says it's a fuel pump that does this when car is cold. Who knows if that's accurate or just a brush-off...

My car was shaking bad tonight at 27 MPH. No way this is normal. Gonna take it back in and if nothing else drive a different car to compare.

I just wanted to mention that I have this weird flutter at about 25-35 too. Only for the first 10 minutes of driving after the car has been sitting all night. To me, that seems to indicate that it is bearings warming up. I'll live with it. If you drop it off at the dealer, there's no telling what they'll do to it.

This is the first car I ever owned that I needed to take to dealer for repairs, it really stinks! I had a rattle in the duct work somewhere. I have the Ivory interior, needless to say when tech was done with car I had so many grease marks on glove box it was very disappointing. These dealers really do suck! And they never found rattle !! Luckily it went away when I pushed car to 135mph!

I just changed rear diff on my own! 5.0 with 31k and the oil was so silvery I was kind of shocked. The dealer wanted 140$ to do it. Freaking crazy!! It only takes 20$ in oil.

Hyundai, but there’s an unfinished Genesis showroom there too.
I was curious, I live in south dakota and I am yet to see another Genesis on the road out here . Not to sure if the techs at the Hyundai where I go know much about the car,due to lack of exposure to them. I was kind of curious if the service at a designated Genesis dealer was any better?

The flutter is NOT fixable. IMO, its either a motor mount issue or some sort of vibration when the exhaust is cold. Its worse over night and especially bad after 2-3 days of sitting. The colder it is the more prevalent it becomes. I have tried to get this fixed, it's hopeless. I am just going to live with it. Its under warranty, if the vibrations cause other things to go bad, Hyundai will just have to keep fixing them. I had a new car for a loaner, it does the same thing just more muted. So its inherent in the design. Amazed they don't have a fix, but they don't.

Well that really sucks. I am so particular I'm not sure if I would be able to live with that. Is this a V6 model or a V8 model

I had this problem fixed. They replaced my drive shaft and everything was alright. Earlier in this thread some guy posted his PO an I showed them that and they replaced it for me and it worked.

I am really dubious that changing a driveshaft fixes the flutter problem.
It recently got colder here, with mornings in the low 50s, and the fluttering is definitely worse. (In the summer when the nighttime lows were in the upper 70s, I barely noticed it at all in the first 5 minutes of driving.)

But the fluttering always goes away after about 5 minutes of driving.
Isn't the flutter caused by a bearing just warming up? And if so, isn't the remedy replacing a bearing rather than a driveshaft?

Sounds like hub bearing to me!

I have had 4 drive shafts or so. My problem is now more intermittent. So I have no clue where to even look. But no flutter for two days (its cold and sat) then had it again. Sometimes its REALLY intense. IMO it is NOT the driveshaft. At least my issue is not.
