  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone experienced a problem with the rear back up camera display? I have had my vehicle in to two different dealers in the Chicagoland area and they haven't been able to find the glitch. It was an intermittant problem with the display ocassionally getting a garbled picture while backing up. Now there is no picture at all. They have changed the camera and the control module in the trunk with no change. All the other display functions work perfectly. I'm interested if any one has experienced similar problems and what was done to resolve it. Thanks!

It sounds like it could be a wiring problem. Especially if they changed out the camera and the control module.

No problem here, haven't heard of any problems either. Hope it works out ok!

yup i have the same problem right now...

I still haven't taken it in the the dealership but I will when I need my next oil change.

Not having the camera is very annoying since its so useful...now its kind of scary backing up.

If they find the problem ill post what they did.

PS: i have a white line going from right to left through the screen ( i have no picture what so ever)

We had one here like that and ended up being the camera.

Well, we took it in today and they updated the software but weren't able to fix the problem... they will order a completely new camera assembly and install it. Lets hope we have the same issue and that it will work!

My back up camera went out two weeks ago. I took it to the dealership, and wouldn't you know, it failed to duplicate the problem. Now there is absolutely no picture. Interestingly, the screen shows the dotted guidelines with a black background. I'm going to make an appointment this week when I can leave it for the day (as the service rep suggested). Please let me know how this problem was resolved for others. I suspect faulty wiring since it was intermittent for the first week and finally no picture.

Man. I'm glad mine is working out OK. Every once in a while when I shift into reverse to fast after starting up the car the screen cuts back and forth for a couple seconds. No big deal as I usually don't do this and give the car time to warm up before I shift into gear.

My problem was eventually solved. After replacing the camera and the sending unit in the trunk to no avail, the entire head unit in the dash was replaced. This not only fixed the camera problem but eliminated the echo problem in the hands free phone!

Hello, sorry for never getting back to anyone earlier. Our problem was resolved! It was the whole camera assembly that had to be replaced it was not a software issue. I hope this give people an idea and shed some light on this mystery. :D I hope it is the same case for everyone else

The dealership replaced my camera and everything is working fine now. Nice to be able to use it again.

Im having the same issue. The camera view on the screen went black with the guide lines as the only thing appearing. In the dark you can see some snow like it is missing the transmission of a signal of any sort. It first went out about 5 months ago and after about the 3rd restart of the engine, it started working again. The past 2 days, it works fine when leaving for work in the morning but when I get in it after work, it is black again. Then after a few starts, it works like nothing is wrong. I thought it may have been the heat because but it wasn't hot 5 months ago and yesterday I had to make a couple of stops during work and the camera didn't work for 2 stops. On the third restart, it worked which was the hottest part of the day so seems to rule out heat. This one seems difficult to prove or reproduce. The dealer can easily say it didn't malfunction if they test it. So, will video it with my cell phone and call them next time it occurs. Hopefully they have some history with the problem now and I won't have to take it in but once.

Reading the posts, it seems both the head equipment and the camera and associated assemblies were replaced to fix the issue as two different solutions. Please anyone followup with this issue and solution so I can pass on to my dealer.

Glad to hear it's not just me. I have either snow or black screen with just the guide lines. But, it is just intermitant and I can see no pattern (like every time I start the car and go into reverse immediately).
Now I definitely will take it to the dealer and see if it can be fixed. Thanks.
