Arlen Specter was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1993, although it turned out later to not be malignant. He subsequently has battled Hodgkin's Disease, a form of cancer. I guess Arlen is looking for someone to file a lawsuit against.

The Lexus that crashed had mats on top of mats from the dealer's service department (car was a service loaner) this was not Toyota's fault, but the dealers.

I was just reading more about this and I was incorrect.... the dealer had mats from an RX400H SUV in the ES350 and they weren't secured with the retaining hooks. I gotta stay off Edmunds, this topic has been talked about extensively over there.

Seriously, if you have done your homework and studied the car, which I did this car has the one thing that is most important, QUALITY. sorry for yelling.

Only an advantage of Lexus ES350 is Lexus, which already proofed high quality.
Other then that, looks older, high price, and Lexus need to work on design more and more.
I saw the new version of ES series that will release on within couple years, was okay. But Genesis looks more sexy and i'm guaranteed that 2011 Genesis will be new Es.

I enjoy smooth quiet luxury cars. I had been reading every review on the Genesis G80 and also love the styling of the car. I finally drove one and was very surprised how mediocre the ride was, not bad but not nearly as refined, smooth or quiet as the lexus. The car also got busy feeling at higher speeds. The controls like the volume knob on the radio felt like cheap plastic. The screens on the car for navigation etc. are small and difficult to read. I wanted to love this car but as soon as I drove it I knew the Lexus ES blew it away in quality, refinement and the overall feel. Its all about refinement and the G80 really doesn't match up to a lexus. This is a professional opinion below.

Lexus has been at this game a long time, and with each passing generation, the ES series is improved and refined. We like the 2019 Genesis G80, and it’s an admirable effort, but given the refinement and attention to detail and quality luxury customers expect, we give this one to the 2019 Lexus ES. Added bonus: It starts $3,000 lower.

being a former employee , id have to say lexus vehicles are on the more boring side of things and design is just too aggressive for my taste reminds me of cars with over done body kits just not clean looking , if not a F model all there vehicles are just boring , and over done on design.

I owned an '11 Genesis 4.6 with 385hp. Great car but not so great in snow so traded for a '13 Lexus GS350 AWD. Still own it and it is wonderful car. But..love my Genesis G70 3.3 Sport for different reasons. Considered the ES but do not like FWD. Unfortunately, the GS350 will likely be dropped from the line.

The GS isn't being dropped for 2020. You can build one on their web site.

I agree! I'm actually looking at the new ES series right now and they are very nice. They really stepped up their game with those and unless you are really set on rear wheel drive, the GS doesn't make sense right now.

I actually got to test the new ES 350 F Sport about a month ago. Much nicer than the G80 on the inside, but less fun to drive overall

They are somewhat of a bland looking car but its hard to beat their reliability and build quality. They also have a great dealer support network. I'm on the fence in trying to decide if I should wait for the 2021 G80 reveal next year or pull the trigger on a Lexus. I'm not looking for a Sports Sedan and need a very comfortable car that can be used for longer commutes and daily driving. I already own a fun to drive car (2016 Corvette Z06) so I now need comfort and decent gas mileage in my replacement for my Honda Accord.

But then you need to add in the premium package, the navigation package, sound package and who know what else. Nickel and dime you to death.

My family and my wife's family have multiple Toyota products. My wife currently drives a Lexus RX450h, and I'm driving a Camry. I'm looking to replace my Camry and after researching primarily Lexus ES and GS, I'm now leaning heavily toward the Genesis. Here are my reasons:

1) Android Auto. This is a fairly big point. It's ridiculous to me that in this day and age with all the big LCS screens in cars that I still have to use a cellphone holder. I'm also an audiophile, and all my music is stored on my phone's SD card in FLAC format. Well, Lexus as far as I know does not support FLAC playback, and I have to use a complicated set up to circumvent it. Their Mark Levinson sound system is quite good, but I'm very annoyed with needing a complicated setup involving a wireless charger and a portable DAC in order to take advantage of it.

2) The ES and the GS are both ~300 hp V6, while the G80 and the G70 are both a lot faster. For similar price, that's a pretty big difference.

3) Lexus has limited luxury features. HUDs are not standard, so if you're looking for a lightly used one it really limits your options. I wanted a RWD vehicle, so I was looking more at the GS, but it no longer offers the Luxury Package which has Nappa leather as well as 18 way adjustable seats. This makes the G80/70's seats a lot more comfortable, and the leather feels softer as well.

I'm in a similar situation as you however I'm actually leaning towards the Lexus instead. I own a 2013 Honda Accord EXL and a 2016 Corvette Z06. My next car will obviously replace my Honda. I was looking at the Lexus GS, however its long in the tooth and most people are amazed they even came out with a 2020 model. I'm now looking at a ES instead since it was just refreshed. Keep in mind that the 2020 ES series does support Android Auto. I'm unsure if you know it however there have been many complaints with the ML stereo and the back speakers in the car not being loud enough and no ability to control them. I'm also a long time Audiophile and regularly go the Shows in Denver, Southern California and Schaumburg Illinois and in fact will be attending the show out of Chicago in April. Even with its faults I understand the ML stereo is very good. I have visited the Lexus dealers and looked at many ES models but I've yet to hear the ML stereo. My comments are based on what I have read in numerous forums.

Playing lossless audio is not a huge deal for me in a car environment but I get what you are saying. If you get the Luxury or Ultra Luxury Lexus they come nicely equipped and they are a luxury car. You will always get more options for the money with the Genesis models. What I'm confused about is what are you looking to buy? The G70 and the G80 are completely different cars. The G80 is a larger car and more luxurious while the G70 is a faster and more sporty car. Even if you buy a Sports model ES, the differences between the ES 350 aren't that great. I'm a regular in these forums and also several Lexus forums. I was hoping the redesigned G80 would be released as a 2020 model but now it appears it won't be out until late next year as a 2021 model.

While I love the Genesis, I have some serious concerns about the Dealer support network and even about the quality of the cars. I've never owned either car and I'm basing this entirely on what I read in the forums. I do think the Genesis cars are good quality, however its my belief they aren't up to the Lexus standards. Keep in mind Lexus is consistently #1 in reliability so they are pretty much the top dog. If Genesis can come close to competing with that they are doing a good job. I'm in no rush to buy a car today so I'm just waiting it out and collecting more information. I have also been to numerous Genesis dealers and have looked at both the G70 and G80. Let us know what you decide to do. I think buying either brand would be fine, however you need to be prepared to make sacrifices depending on what you are looking for in a car. To me the Genesis look better than the conservative and somewhat boring Lexus models. I have my pet peeves about both brands so in the end its a personal choice.
