  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Curbed my rim

Its been a few years since I've done it but Friday night parking street-side for dinner I curbed the passenger front. I remembered the furniture repair post from above and decided to use a black sharpie and have to say I'm pretty satisfied. Great idea FastEddie and thank you!

toddasauraus im really glad you fixed your rims. I shed a few tears at the thought of that. Now I'm paranoid and will have to check my rims tomorrow. OEMs will be safe though after I put my winters on!

Thanks! Since my repair I've been extra careful, not even a scratch on any of them (knock on wood).

You’re welcome. I hope you never have to go through that again. Do you know how they ‘fix’ them?

Did you put on any protection on them afterwards? I know someone for the rim guards which I’m not going to do.

I guess that’s how I’ll waste my weekend; finding rum protection

Looks like I spoke too soon. Haha. Noticed this today...

No idea how that scratch got there. I don't see any scuffing on the tire sidewall, so I don't think it was from a curb.

Well, that's just my luck. Lol. Whatever. Not gonna worry about it this time.

Trying keep my rims unblemished is why I wouldn't be considered "good" at parallel parking. I'm over cautious. Back in the 90s, when my cars had 6 inches of sidewall, I could touch a tire to the curb without issue.

That looks like a mark from a tire mounting arm to me.

Any small rock or debris from the road could do that. Take it easy my friend and stop looking at them. I know is difficult, maybe I'm asking too much, because...... I can't stop doing it myself. :wallbash:

That's what I'm thinking. I haven't had the tires or even the wheels off since I put on black lug nuts, so I'm thinking it must be from road debris of some sort.

Gonna just let it be. Perhaps I'll justify not doing anything about it by planning on some aftermarket rims at some point.

*sees a tiny scratch*
Todd: f$%k it. Time for a new set of rims :hillarious:

Not sure if the G70 has a tighter or quicker turning radius than my G37 did or maybe just a different blind spot, but twice now in parking lots by islands while turning I’ve gently hit a curb via a back tire. Just partially went up and over the curb with my tire and nothing touched my wheels. I’m paronoid now so turn on my camera to see where my back wheel is before turning if a curb is even near me. I love those cameras.

I agree the turning radius is fairly tight, but personally I think it's mostly because the rear track is so dang wide!

I do the same thing when rounding turns in parking lots around islands. The 360 camera is invaluable.

Well I clipped my left front going through a drive thru. So now both fronts have a small spot. It’s a bitch only seeing with one eye, depth perception is off a bit.

You've only got one eye, Ed?

Well I have both but after 13 surgeries in my right eye I can’t see much. It’s kind of like looking through Vaseline covered eyeglass lens on the right side.

Oh dang! I'm sorry. I can certainly understand how that would make things more difficult...!

Sorry haven’t been active on the forums lately I’ve been so busy, but to throw into this thread... I had curbed my rim a couple months ago and it wasn’t super noticeable but it was there, I took my car in for its oil change and tire rotation etc. and when I got it back from the dealership I noticed they had touched it up!! It now looks as if the rim was never curbed, and also I had a minor scratch on the side of a door and that had disappeared as well! Did not cost me a penny and I hadn’t even told them about either of the damages, I must say the Genesis dealer I have is amazing.

Wow. Do you have the dark sport wheels? Some here have been looking for wheel touch up paint so wondering if Genesis has some now?
