  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

first service is when?

Oh, crap - sorry guys, I was looking at a list of topics.

Lol. Isn’t there supposed to be some sort of standard oil for genesis? Should I ask for full synthetic.

There is, (ACEA 5) but not every dealer follows it. You can ask for full synthetic, but they'll charge you for it.....but who knows if they'd actually give you that oil, they may just charge you extra and throw the same shyte in anyway. Lol.

Or in the best case scenario using the cheapest synthetic oil they could find that is not ACEA 5.

well took mine into service at the dealer today. Couple of items of note

1)opted for no valet service, dealer is 40 miles, don't trust my baby accross town with these clowns.
2) they insisted on valet, but cant force it, they said genesis really pushing it. I get it, just not for me. They offered me a car to go drive around as i waited. That was nice, i had work to do though in the wait area.
3) wanted to detail the car, um no, only i touch my car. Had to sign and opt out of that too. they said its hand wash and the guy is really good. I offered to observe him do it, no dice. lol
4) Asked for full synthetic, and bill me an upcharge. They said we don't even have it and here is your ford motorcraft synthetic blend, as they share dealerships with a ford dealer. Whatever, its a leased car. i am not hot rodding.
5) in other news the twin to my car I originally wanted to buy from the dealer i am servicing at(i got mine in Seattle) is still sitting there 7 months later. "Its a real hot car" they say. Serves them right. They wouldn't recognize my Circle A from R-spec and other loyalty incentives i had so i didn't do the deal and saved 4,000 going to Seattle(3 hours)

Overall the dealer was prompt, efficient, and had a nice waiting area even though basically a hyundai dealer. I would recommend them. I liked the fact that the drive up area is MASSIVE, and there is not car tetris going on as you drop off your car. Also liked you can see the service area from the service wait room, that is nice to keep tabs on the ride. It took about 45 mins, realistically I am happy.

Vancouver Genesis.

Maybe it's better that you don't know how poor of a job they did on the oil change. There's a good chance they overtightened the drain plug and cartridge filter. Hopefully if they strip the threads they'll fix it on their own and not blame you.

Sorry!

I'll admit they were really cool and helpful with me when they did mine. The guy that drove it didn't speed, either (had my app set to notify if he exceeded the my limit), as I had let him drive it from and to my house. They also did a good job with the hand wash. But... unfortunately, they did a HORRIBLE job with the oil change itself....

Relax, at least for now. Some of us have had good experiences. Things like an over tightened drain plug are the problem of an individual tech, not something every dealer does.

Unfortunately, any service at any shop can be great or problematic. Some really great looking shops have irresponsible mechanics and some hole in the wall shops have highly skilled, meticulous techs. I hope you get one of the good ones.

The parts manager at my closest Genesis store said Genesis trained technicians work on Genesis cars in their shop but any tech will be assigned for standard items such as oil change, tire rotation, battery and such. Thus the "Genesis experience" includes the 19 year old new hire for standard maintenance visits (at that store).

My brother did that stuff in a shop when he was 15 and was doing engine rebuilds by 16. Every trade has an apprenticeship program, even brain surgeons. I don't have a problem with that. I would think that 19 year old is qualified and checked out before he touches a tool to a customer car.

The problem is that unlike your brother, a lot of youngsters these days don't seem to care much about specs and quality. Rather than getting out the torque wrench they'll just "tighten it up good", or rush through jobs, missing steps, inspections, or doing poor work. We all hope this is the exception.

Fact is, you never know what you will get. Some old timers think they know shortcuts too. You hope to get a dealer that honestly cares and has people with a good work ethic.

Cars became a hobby for my brother and he was always working on 6 or 10 at any given time. He had three Mustangs, convertible, fastback, notchback with the intention of making one really good one. I guess he did good because he sold it to Ford Motor Company.

I think dealers are highly incentivized to provide good service these days. I have no issue with ages or experience with proper training. Like I tell my children I don’t care if you are a garbage collector roofer or doctor do what you do well. With pride.
