If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There are 2 things that are driving me crazy about my Genesis.

The delay on the wipers. Why does it do it automatically? With just a fine mist the wipers are running on high. Then when it is really raining it wont come on for a while. I wish I could just adjust it myself. I know there is adjustment, but the auto feature is horrible

The auto defrost. It always comes on. WITH NO FOGGING.

I hate these features in my Genesis.

I agree with you here except for me it's not that bad

I agree again here...It's way too sensitive!

You forgot one more thing!
The auto-daylight feature is ALSO way too sensitive!
At dusk and dawn my headlights turn on then off then on and off...it's actually ridiculous.
I just turn it on or off myself. I actually find the auto feature useless.

Still love the car to death but these things should be addressed by Hyundai.

This car has these features set too sensitive. I wish there were adjustments.

I dont use the auto feature on my headlights. I wish the wipers and defrost would give you the options to manually operate them.

Rain? Fog? What are those things??
Since I live in Phoenix, I have little chance to test these features.

However, I completely agree with the auto-daylight feature being a problem!

Hmm, can't say I agree with you. It is true that the automatic wipers can be inconsistent. Sometimes they fail to come on when the windshield is covered in water. Sometimes they come out of nowhere and give a wipe or two when there isn't any water on the windshield. Most of the time though I find they work well. We were driving in eastern Ontario yesterday. The highway was wet so that every time a driver passed us, it sprayed water onto the windshield. Well, the wipers behaved perfectly. They came on exactly as needed then stopped right away once the windshield was clear. On the whole, I love the automatic wipers. They save a lot of nuisance, having to turn the wipers on and off all the time.

Our defrost has never come on. Do we even have an automatic defrost? There is no problem though. If we need the defrost, we just put it on. It isn't like the windshield wipers where you have to keep putting them on and putting them off all the time.

I love the automatic headlights! So what if they come on a little prematurely? How does this bother the driver or anyone else?

Well, as the owner of a base model I don't have the problem with the automatic wipers, but I think I'd be annoyed if they were inconsistent. The annoyance wouldn't be so much with the inconsistency itself, that's the way this "auto" stuff is, but if there's no way to disable the "auto" behavior, well that would be an issue. Even if the wipers work perfectly 99% of the time there should be a manual option for the other 1%.

The lights going on and off during low light conditions is not much of a problem, but it is sometimes annoying when it's flipping on and off during dusk conditions. On my trip home some nights it would flip on and off 15-20 times in a mile or two as a moved from being behind tall trees, to cleared lots, and back. But the lights to have a manual option so I just override them. All the super smart "automatic" stuff should have a manual override in my opinion.

I don't understand the complaint on the automatic wipers. Simply don't use that position on the switch if you don't like thir operation. In my case, they work fine in about 95% of conditions.

If you leave them in auto when not needed, the wipers stick up past the cowl and add drag and air noise to the car. I keep them turned off auto when it is not raining.

In the odd time they aren't behaving well, usually in very light rain, I simply turn the auto feature off and reach out with my finger to push the lever up and do a swipe or two whenever needed.

The lights seldom bother me. If they are cycling too much, I simply toss something like paper on the dash to cover the sensor and bias the operation toward night. A small piece of tape over part of the sensor could be used to permanently bias the system toward night operation.

I haven't had any issues with the automatic wipers. Considering they are tied to speed and impact sensors, they will behave according to how hard its raining. In some hard but light rain they;ve gone full speed, and in some mist they've not gone on at all, but at least you easily have manual control to manage them if needed, which some times can be the case. I've always experienced this with auto wipers though, its just the nature of the beast imo.

The auto lights are annoying at dusk however - the sensor is too sensitive and I'd like a longer delay before going on ad then once on, cutting off again. I don't mind the headlights going on and off, but there is a separate sensor that adjusts the instrument panel's brightness, and having it go dark when its bright out is a problem. It seems to go dark automatically when the lights come on, and then get brighter again after a second or two. I'm not sure if the dealership can adjust the auto-light sensitivity, but it usually can be adjusted.

I find that the auto wipers work perfectly 95% of the time. I always use them in the auto position and never take them off. I also use the auto head light feature because I've never known differently.

Back to the wipers... How the heck do you change them out. I've read the manual but can't seem to put the wipers in "maintenance mode". The manual says to shut the car off and push the wiper lever up but nothing seems to work. Any help?

You hold the lever for a period of time and they should automatically move to vertical position so you can make the change. Are you holding the lever for a few seconds?

I only tried it once. I held the lever up for maybe 5 seconds with the car off. Nothing happened. I also pulled the lever towards me and nothing happened.

I'll try to hold it longer and see what happens. Am I missing something though?

Hmmm, maybe try it by pushing the start button once, foot off the brake, so its on, but not in accessory mode?

To the OP: I'm not sure if this is true on the premium package, but with the Tech package there actually is an adjustment feature on the auto wipers. It's on the wiper stalk, and will definitely impact the default speed of your wipers. If you feel the wipers are a little too enthusiastic, turn the dial towards the bottom setting (shorter bars rather than longer bars).

These are subjective, so perhaps that is all there is to it but I do wonder if they adjusted the sensitivity of these for 2010. Anyon with a 2010 having the same problems? I don't find the headlight auto setting to be too sensitive and the rain sensor seems to work perfectly. It has been raining off and on for weeks and I’ve had mine on Auto the whole time; I have been paying particular attention to this and I am very pleased.

I have the 2010 and haven't noticed any major problem withe the sensitivity of the wipers. Now as far as the LIGHTS are concerned, that's a different story. I can't have them cycling on and off at dusk as has been the case. It must appear like I'm giving the beams to the person in front of me !! Next thing you know, I'll be rolling around the median wrestling with somebody!! Hopefully Tiger's girlfriend. LOL. My solution has been to leave the lights on all the time. Solves the dawn and dusk issue, and makes it appear I have Daytime Running Lights.
All that said, two weeks in I'm enjoying my Genesis ten times more than my '07 E Class.

You dont have a choice if you want them to be intermittent. Its either off, auto, low, or high

Thats where I have it. It still does whatever it wants. It will be a light mist and the wipers will go high. The entire time the dial will be on the longest setting.

This is exactly what I do.

I just did this today as I needed to clean my blades.

Shut engine off and within a few seconds, push the wiper lever up for a few seconds. (no need to pull lever towards you) Blades will go up to service position. Note that this must be done within a few seconds of shutting ignition off.
