Support for suspension issues

Nissan and Toyota have years of experience with higher priced vehicles and their dealer network is typically of higher quality than the Hyundai dealers that are often shoehorned in with other brands. As I've said before, Hyundai almost has the products but their support and customer service is terrible. Based on my experience with the 6 dealers I've had the displeasure of dealing with and HMA, I can say I'm far off from considering another Hyundai product.

Glad Nissan stepped up for you. We all too often hear of the negatives, but it's nice to hear the positives too.

All very true - Nissan served me very well years ago when I owned a Maxima.

However, I think most of us that purchased a Genesis were cross shopping against Infiniti, Lexus, BMW, etc. - not Toyota and Nissan. For the $10-$20 we saved over a comparable car in that class, I'll gladly put up with inferior service. I've owned my Genesis since Feb '09 and have yet to take it back to the dealer.

Hey guys, I don't know why you think BMW service is superior. The two times that I have been back to Hyundai for service I had to wait for about two minutes to speak to a rep with no appointment.

My latest visits to BMW have not been any fun at all. BMW recently replaced a power steering pump because of a loud noise (woke the entire neighborhood). The problem was still there the next day so I called and was told to bring it back. I had to wait an hour to see the service rep. This was five days ago. I have not heard anything since.

The week before the power steering problem the car was in for a problem with the A/C. They fixed the A/C but banged up the front end of the car which had been completely restored (every scratch, nick and bing repaired and completey repainted).

The same BMW dealer banged up the rear of another car 10 years ago. Both times they tried to get away with not telling me.

MY 2010 Genny 4.6 has been great. As far as service goes We had an 06 Senada and at 92,000 miles the engine blew up. All they asked was did I keep my service records for oil changes which I do and they but a brand new complete create motor in completely new and never asked a questions. They even gave us a loner car while they replaced it.

Now that's backing up a warrenty!

Senada?

Sonata, maybe? Was it a V6 or i4?

Still looking to trade my 09 Genesis, but when I went to trade it for another car I was in the hole for $10k.. sorry I cant take a $10k loss right now so Im stuck with the rough rider at the moment, but Im still looking to dump it !

Anyone wanna buy a used 09 Genesis with 9,000 miles on it? Almost new !!

Might try this line of thought: All Genny's ride great on great roads that are very smooth, Why would we expect different the suspension has nothing to do.

The 09 rides harsh I put 8 bags of 40 pounds of water softener salt in the trunk it improved the ride, basically this overcomes the high rear spring rate by giving the springs more weight to deal with. But their is no room left in the trunk. HOWEVER I can buy soft lead sheeting and put about 240 / 310 pounds int the trunk under the mat and only loose about 1 inch in height of trunk volume, it spreads the load nicely and should not effect a crash or significantly or really effect gas mileage or braking. But a very non elegant solution.

NOW, I could buy a 2010 which rides better or put the 2010 springs and shocks in the rear, which is what I am still trying to do and now can be done. In very near future will run test with, no shocks installed at all and followed by USA softer shocks trying to decide is it mainly the springs. I can finally order the 2010 springs and 2010 shocks but want to do the most cost efficient thing and also understand what is going on.

(Commentarty) The rim diameter reduction (18' to 17"), tire change from Dunlops 5000m to Goodyear Assurance Comfort Treads and lowering tire pressure to 30psi, all made detectable improvements but no where near enough.

I have driven and owned many German cars and also Japanese cars the rode very acceptably. Hope things are resolved in early 2010

PS Also installing my Yellow Fog Lamps, Sylvania ultras high Beams and Louder Horns (maybe Italian 3 note air - Wo Wo).

Merry Christmass and Happy , Healthy and Peaceful New Year to all !! :grouphug:

Are the dealerships willing to switch out the 2009 suspension for the 2010 suspension? I just got my winter tires put on (blizzaks) and the ride is worse then before and i hear a humming noise when i drive now which i didn't before. I don't know if the wheels were put on wrong of if the suspension got worse but i need something to change quick, i ride 100 miles a day in that car and i can't take the bouncing over every little bump. I agree the car rides soooo smoothly over good roads it seems the car is very sensitive to road conditions which is not good cuz more roads are bad then good

Absolutely NO!

MY son's car was the Senada with the 4 cylinder that the engine blew up in and they replaced it.

TIRE PRESSURE: I found on my 2010 Genny that the tires were at 36# air. I lowered to 31# and it vastly improved the ride. Also, I just put snow tires all the way around and those tires ride much nicer than the factory tires also. Theres no magic fix but they did improve the ride. My BMW rode nearly exactly the same way but the DTS was like riding on the living room couch compared to the Genny but I'm ok with it. I got what I wanted a reasonably priced car with a sporty ride, excellent features and reasonable price.

The Lexus GS350 didn't ride $17,000 better to me.

Drove our V6 Genny on some rough Michigan side streets today. The ride was pretty bouncy...almost uncontrolled. My wife actually said she felt a bit sea sick. Definitely underdamped and oversprung. The 18" tires don't help matters. I'll be putting some 60 series, 17's on next week (winter snows) and will see how that softens things up.

In the long run, I will probably look for softer springs...or stiffer shocks...softer springs being the first choice.

There are lots of custom shops that can determine shock and spring rates but that can get expensive. I'm hoping there are some aftermarket parts available soon....like Tokico shocks.

Been there did that bought the rims. tires, reduced the tire pressure, etc. It definately needs softer springs and different shocks, maybe some serious weight in the rear. Let me know what you try and how it works.

If a set of $400 dollar shocks or $300 softer springs (typical prices I've paid in the past) can fix it, I'll consider it a cheap price to pay for what otherwise is an excellent vehicle.

If I can figure out the spring size and rate, I can have a spring custom built for less than $400. There are companies that stock springs in different diameters and rates and you can often find something off the shelf.

I had to do something similar with our 2000 Avalon. The thing was wayyyy undersprung and damped and bottomed on every bump with passengers in the back. I paid $400 for shocks and $250 for springs.

This is such a sad situation for Gen owners when you have to resort to home fixes for suspension problems. Hopefully the 2010 redesign fixed the problems. I am just glad I didn't purchase the vehicle. With my 2 year lease ending this summer, I will probably say goodbye to Hyundai.

My negatives:
1) Jittery suspension--I don't mind BMW firm but you need some better German balance to it to absorb the rough stuff
2) Poor throttle tip in--I always need to keep the stability control turned off to get descent acceleration response
3) Backup camera issues--doesn't always activate when placed in reverse. My dealer couldn't replicate problem, thus I am stuck with it.
4) Poor IPOD integration (I do have the V6 Tech Package)

My positives:
1) Great price/value
2) Great looking design inside and out
3) Nice ventilated driver seat
4) Spacious interior and trunk
5) Love the fact I can input navigation while car is in motion

I'm curious what other manufacturers you are considering if you leave Hyundai.

Negatives:
1.) I'm hoping to fix this inexpensively (ie. for less than $1000) with spring and shock fixes...but I agree that few customers would be capable, or would take the time to do this on their own and it IS an issue that Hyundai should address with the 2009 models...if at least on an individual case by case basis.
2.) Not sure how ESC effects normal tip in. I only see it when getting on it hard and turning. It really limits the ability to use throttle oversteer...but I suppose that is one of it's purposes...to stop throttle oversteer.
3.) Don't have so can't comment.
4.) Awaiting Ipod doc...but only have premium package...not tech pack.

Positives:
1.) Price/value. This is HUGE for us. I could not justify spending $40-$50K for a car anymore. Those days are long gone and I wish I had half the money I spent on them back!
2.) Design. Agreed. It is a homerun as far as design is concerned. Wish Hyundai had lost the flying H badges though, and released a unique brand.
3.) Don't have so can't comment.
4.) Spacious interior and trunk. This was huge with us. We cross shopped a Volvo S80, Taurus, and Buick Lacrosse. The Genesis blew them away in interior room...especially back seat room.
5.) Don't have so can't comment.

Probably will take a look at a BMW 5er. I know it is a lot more money but I passed up a 535i when I originally leased--now I kind of regret it. Don't get me wrong--Hyundai created a great luxury product for the money but for my particular sportier tastes, BMW might closer to what I want. I may also consider the newly redesigned Infiniti M as well after it comes out later this year. I think even BMW is being redesigned this year too.

Funny how this comes up time and time agian in Hyundai vehicles. The new 2010 Tucson -

Those taut suspenders, sad to say, don't pay dividends in the ride department. Here the Hyundai comes across as too aggressive, transmitting rather than absorbing road imperfections. "Suspension is overly taut and not nearly as composed as the Honda's or GMC's,"

I thought this was the Genesis forum?

So what does that have to do with the price of tea in china. It attests to the ability of Hyundai to fit it's latest design suspensions to fit the full range of American driver tasts.

HELLO ALL, IM IN CORONA CA WHERE EIBACH IS LOCATED...........IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE RIDE/SUSPENSION OF YOUR GENESIS SEDAN THEY WILL POSSIBLY PRODUCE SOME SOFTER SPRINGS FOR THE SEDAN IF THEY GET ENOUGH REQUESTS........I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THE RIDE OF MY CAR AND HAVE VOLUNTERED MY VEHICLE FOR THE TESTING AND DEVELOPMENT................PLS E-MAIL DENETTE GUTIERREZ AT ...............dgutierrez@eibach.com SHE SAID IF THEY GET ENOUGH REQUESTS THEY WILL MAKE THEM.......SHE ALSO MENTIONED THEY HAVE ALREADY HAD SOME REQUESTS......................THX

Suspension system noise

I have a 2009 Genesis with 16K miles. I love the car, but have been frustrated with a clunking noise coming from the left rear when I go over speed bumps in parking lots. The dealer replaced the shock absorber and mounting plate. The noise is now more of a "squishing" sound.

Anyone have this problem? If so, how did it get fixed?
